About Lance Scally

The above picture is of the family enjoying a Carribbean evening at the Gladstone last summer.

Plas Arfon Cottage is a family owned rental and part of our family business. The other parts are The Gladstone, our AA 4 star bar/restaurant/boutique hotel with 6 letting rooms, next door to the cottage and The Castle View in Deganwy. This is an award winning bar/restaurant serving traditional & modern food. We have lived in and around North Wales all our lives and have been in the hospitality industry for as long as we can remember. All the children grew up in the industry and as yet can't see that would change. (until the old man retires that is!)

Lance Scally purchased this house in 2000

Guestbook comments from the owner

We all really enjoyed our stay in the cottage. The views were the best we have probably had when we have been on holiday anywhere in the UK. It was a pleasure to eat at the dining table and to look out to the sea.

We ate at The Gladstone on Steak night and the food was excellent, we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to people in the area.

As far as the cottage goes, there was everything in there that you could need and more than enough space to accommodate four adults and two young children. The fact that the rear garden was enclosed and secure meant that the children could go outside and we had peace of mind.

Our stay at the Plas Arfon Cottage, Conwy

  • 5 of 5

We all had a lovely holiday in North Wales. The Cottage was set in glorious surroundings over looking the sea on one side and mountains on the other. There were lots of lovely places to visit close to the Cottage, with the beach being only a 5-10 minute walk away. The Cottage was very modern, clean and tidy and had all the essential facilities. We visited the Gladstone pub next to the Cottage for a meal one evening and all the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. The staff at the Gladstone were also happy to help if we had any queries at the Cottage.

We would definitely stay at the Cottage again in the future and would highly recommend it to anyone wishing to holiday in the North of Wales.

Disappointing

  • 3 of 5

Favourable first impressions with spacious downstairs however upstairs the bathroom and third bedroom left much to be desired. We were a party of five adults which was known to the owner and the third bedroom was only fit for children and totally unsuitable for adults due to the low sloping ceiling on which on many occasions we bumped our heads and shoulders. The bathroom was even worse and one had to bend at the basin to wash and huddle by the taps to shower, again hitting our heads on the sloping ceiling. There were no Health and Safety notices anywhere to warn us of this. We complained about the towels which were very poor - thin and marked - and the tea towels which had a very unpleasant odour and the lack of an oven glove. They immediately produced clean towels and an oven glove. On arrival the dishwasher would not clean anything and after three attempts we ended up having to empty it and wash everything but this was also repaired. The mattress in the downstairs bedroom needs replacing, the fridge door did not close and a member of our party sat on a garden chair which collapsed under her. We were surprised to find two lots of three steps leading up to the property and not just one lot as we were led to believe. These criticisms are so you can remedy the faults for further visitors. We have stayed in numerous self catering properties and have never felt the need to complain before.

Perfect cottage in an idyllic location. Excellent facilities and spotlessly clean.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Plas Arfon cottage and would recommend to anyone. The downstairs bedroom and ensuite were ideal for my elderly mother and the upstairs facilities were excellent with a beautiful view from the verandah. This cottage has a great 'home from home' feel about it, with everything you could possibly need to make an enjoyable stay. If I had one criticism we felt the garden furniture did need replacing as it was well worn and in a fragile state. However this did not in any way spoil our holiday and we could not have hoped for a better place to stay.

The staff at The Gladstone pub next door were always friendly and welcoming.

Fantastic location for exploring Llandudno, Betws-y-coed and Anglesey.

Thank you for all your help and efficiency with our booking.

Great base for exploring North Wales

  • 4 of 5

We found the cottage very easily, the directions given by Lance were excellent.

The cottage was comfortable, very spacious, clean and well equipped. We thought that the pub car park and the closeness of the A55 may have disturbed us but we need not have worried about it, although we were a little surprised that the cottage didn't have a hairdryer. The staff at the Gladstone did look for a spare but unfortunately we ended up having to buy one.

The location of the cottage is excellent. We visited Conwy and Caernarfon castles, Llandudno, Anglesey, Llanberis ( for Snowdonia ) and Bodnant Gardens all within easy reach. We went to the summit of Snowdonia by train and would recommend using the Heritage Train rather than the other train - much more comfortable.

We ate in the Gladstone once and the food and service were very good. The staff at the Gladstone who are the first stop if you have a problem were friendly and very helpful.

We ate at the Village Bistro one evening which is a pleasant 20 min walk into Penmaenmawr. The food and service again were very good.

A very memorable holiday altogether.
