About Lance Scally

The above picture is of the family enjoying a Caribbean evening at the Gladstone.

Plas Arfon Cottage is a family owned rental and part of our family business. The other parts are The Gladstone, our AA 4 star bar/restaurant/boutique hotel with 6 letting rooms, next door to the cottage and The Castle View in Deganwy. This is an award winning bar/restaurant serving traditional & modern food. Also the Liverpool Arms, directly on the waterfront in Conwy old town is a recent addition to the portfolio. This traditional old world tavern is the oldest and smallest pub in Conwy. Well worth a visit, after an enjoyable day's sightseeing or shopping, relax whilst taking in the river views from the outside seating area.

We have lived in and around North Wales all our lives and have been in the hospitality industry for as long as we can remember. All the children grew up in the industry and as yet can't see that would change. (until the old man retires that is!)

Lance Scally purchased this house in 2007

Why Lance Scally chose Dwygyfylchi

We purchased this property some 12 years ago to compliment our bar restaurant business next door and to take advantage of the amazing location. We spent the next 2 years converting it into a stylish 3 bedroom house with every modern convenience for visitors to enjoy.

We have found that our cottage guests enjoy having a bar and restaurant near to site and they take advantage of the facilities of the Gladstone.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We all really enjoyed our stay in the cottage. The views were the best we have probably had when we have been on holiday anywhere in the UK. It was a pleasure to eat at the dining table and to look out to the sea.

We ate at The Gladstone on Steak night and the food was excellent, we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to people in the area.

As far as the cottage goes, there was everything in there that you could need and more than enough space to accommodate four adults and two young children. The fact that the rear garden was enclosed and secure meant that the children could go outside and we had peace of mind.

Ideal house and location for a family holiday.

  • 5 of 5

Nice big airy rooms with plenty of light. We took our own blackout curtain due to having a toddler who sleeps early at night. The appliances are all modern and easy to use and the entire house is well equipped with everything you could possibly need. We even managed a bbq. Walking distance to the beach which surprised us with a mini water pool, cafe and very clean sandy areas as well as rocks. 2 slip ways so even managed to get the pram on the beach with the baby. Pub next door was not overly busy and didn't hear any noise despite being quite close. Would recommend a look inside as the place is gorgeous. We had breakfast there with very fresh and well cooked food. One of the staff recommended a day out in Rhos on Sea as they had a pirate themed weekend on. This was the perfect end to our holiday. There is so much to see and do here, we will definitely be back

Great property, however there are draw backs. Whilst the noise level downstairs inside the property was virtually non-existent it was very noisy upstairs. The up stairs bedrooms were spacious especially the one with the sea view but it was very difficult to sleep at night with the constant road noise.

Also the property was marketed as suitable for the elderly/infirm with a downstairs bedroom which was again very spacious but the property has several steps to the front to get inside which weren’t easy for my elderly parents in law. Another downside was the parking outside the house which is on the pub car park. A space had been allocated for the house however the public were allowed to park in the space in front of the gate and some parked right up to the gate of the property which made it extremely awkward to get my disabled mother in law around the parked car into the gate.

Overall a good property but has faults so will not be returning.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying at Plas Arfon cottage and just to answer the points made in your review so that potential guests do not perceive a wrong impression of the cottage. The upstairs bedroom has never had a noise problem with previous guests and as I have explained, if it is your prefference for complete silence then the windows should be closed. There are 4 steps from the parking area to a level access to the rear entrance of the cottage and with the downstairs en suite it is ideal for elderly guests of which we have had many over the years. There are 2 spaces outside the entrance for the parking of the cottage guests, if any Gladstone customers inadvertently park there (which is very rare as it is well signed) then they would be kindly reminded to move if staff were informed. Thank you again for your stay and we hope that we can be of service to you in the future.

Lovely 3 bedroom cottage, larger inside than it looks.

  • 5 of 5

Stayed 3 nights over new year.

Lovely cottage. Spacious. Nice little garden.

Obviously cold when we were there but it would be lovely in the summertime. Next to the Gladstone pub - staff friendly and the food good.

Ideally situated for Conway and surrounding area.

We really enjoyed our stay. The property is very well equipped and the beds are very comfortable. The property is clean and perfect for a family and anyone with dogs as the garden is secure. The Gladstone is a lovely pub very welcoming and the food was excellent. It would be nice to see some vegan choices on the menu please in the future.

Beautiful modern home in a lovely location.

  • 5 of 5

We had a short break at this home in North Wales. It is a lovely place to stay where you can either drive to the beautiful locations of North Wales or take a lovely long walk directly from the home. It is in a beautiful area. The owners also have the pub next door to the house and Adele is lovely and makes you feel quite a home, including our dog. I can't fault anything, from the booking to the holiday itself, to the venue. Thanks for everything.
