Please feel free to call Robin at 559-936-8666 if you have any questions or would like to make a last-minute booking.

Redbud Trail Retreat is nestled among the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, on the South Fork of the Kaweah River. This property offers the utmost in privacy and seclusion while being less than 10 min. from the quaint town of Three Rivers & 20 min. from Sequoia National Park.

The large 4800 sq ft residence is set on 24 magnificent wooded acres of blue oaks and redbuds overlooking its own unique piece of the South Fork of the Kaweah River. Keep an eye out for the local deer, stroll our olive grove or just marvel at the majestic mountain vistas.

The property is comprised of a two-story house with the utmost in luxury and comfort with an adjacent cozy cottage. Central heating/cooling and a flexible mix of rooms with private patios ensures privacy, comfort and accommodation for any combination of guests. The large kitchen is well equipped with quality appliances ready for the heartiest of meals. Adjacent is a dining area seating up to 12, central to a generous and lofty living area with wood burning fireplace and veranda with breathtaking views of Blossom Peak. The outdoor living environment is equally enchanting with a fabulous lagoon pool, fireplace and rustic outdoor dining area with gas BBQ - all with a beautiful river view.

The ground floor also has a master suite with a king bed and a master bathroom with large jetted bathtub, generous shower, Swedish Sauna, separate toilet and bidet, walk-in closet and an extra vanity area. On the ground floor there is another bedroom with a Tempur-Pedic queen-size bed and outdoor seating area. The third ground floor bedroom includes two queen beds, sitting area and private patio. There is also a full bathroom, a full laundry room with state of the art appliances and a separate library room.

Upstairs there are two large bedrooms, one with a Tempur-Pedic Queen bed and one with a king bed. Both have walk-in closets and private balconies. There is a central bathroom with separate vanity area.

The adjacent cottage is completely private and only steps away from the main house. It offers rustic charm, knotty pine ceilings and walls, and a wood burning stove. It also has central heating and air conditioning. There is a queen bed in a nook area, a lounge dining area, a separate bedroom with two twin beds, a veranda and a bathroom.

Although the residence is superb, it is the outdoors that is the big attraction. Sip coffee on the huge veranda overlooking the lagoon style pool and watch the river running below, or enjoy meals on the rustic barbecue deck, marveling at the majestic mountains. In winter, huddle by the outdoor fireplace sipping wine while gazing at the incredible night sky. In summer, relax by the pool, dipping in to cool off now and then. Take nature walks on the property through the blue oaks, along the river frontage or through the olive grove, all the while being on the look-out for our friendly deer.

You will love vacationing at Redbud Trail Retreat so much it may be difficult to tear yourself away to see the Sequoia National Park and other attractions.

If you can leave your compound, the area offers an abundance of activities year round.

About Robin Castro

Originally from Australia and have been in the hotel business for many years, so you can count on us to have everything just right. We love the outdoors and discovered the Three Rivers area while looking for a private 'off the grid' property to retreat to periodically from our busy schedules - a place to be able to enjoy with family and friends with easy access to the great outdoors of the Sierra Nevada.

Robin Castro purchased this estate in 2012

Why Robin Castro chose Gold Country / High Sierra

Redbud Trail Retreat is one of those rare properties in the Three Rivers area that has vast views, river frontage , seclusion, and absolute peace and quiet.

What makes this estate unique

Located near the base of dramatic Blossom Peak, the house enjoys seclusion, privacy and inspirational views of mountains and the river valley. A house offering extreme comfort, space and amenities. Your only neighbor is a family of deer that occasionally graze outside the kitchen window or the wild turkeys that wander by. The olive grove and the river are always enjoyable for a stroll.

This property has a certain energy about it that you 'drop into' the minute you arrive.

We Love It!

Stunning family-friendly property from where to explore Sequoias.

  • 5 of 5

We visited April 11 - 16, 2017, and the foothills were in gorgeous full bloom. The unheated pool was open and the kids used it a lot. The weather varied greatly, and some days were hot and others chilly. The outdoor fireplace and the sauna came in handy after pool use. There are plenty of bath towels and fire wood. On chilly days, there are plenty of games and amusements in the vast house. On hot days, exploring the property was great, letting the kids run loose to soak in nature's beauty... There is a large outdoor table under the overhang, where the kids set up art camp. There is another outdoor seating area made of hand hewn solid wood, from which dinner in sunset was great. The market nearby has everything you need, but for finer cuts of meat to put on the grill Whole Foods in Fresno did the trick. The property slopes down towards a beautiful river full of glittering fools' gold, framed by wild mint (use in cocktails or smoothies!). It took 15 minutes to drive to the park entrance, where you pay $30 for weekly access. The road into the park is full of great vistas, resting stops and trail heads. The switchback road up the mountain side is intense, bring dramamine. It takes a good 30 min to drive that section safely in an enjoyable manner. Do not rush, and do not rush others. The top had loads of snow which gave off icy cold, but on sunny days the sun was warm enough for some to wear shorts! The weather switches quickly up there though, so wear layers. Also, many don't know – or ignore – to stay on trails and not climb fences, so don't be shy to let people know – you will help save the regal and very old Sequoias. All in all this property is so gorgeous it was hard to leave it. The house is secluded, comfortable and cozy, all beds clean and firm with plenty of pillows, with a bright utilitarian kitchen complete with cheese slicers and wine openers. There is very limited wifi, so streaming movies was not recommended. They have a vast library of DVD movies, although only a few were kid-friendly. We didn't mind, since we were there to be outside as much as possible and nobody missed being reachable or entertained by Hollywood. The caretaker Robin is very accommodating, friendly and helpful and will stock your fridge with gorgeous local eggs if you ask her. A great base from which to explore the area and the giant forest section of the Sequoias.

Family Retreat 2017

  • 5 of 5

The Red Bud Retreat is an amazing property. We had our annual Family Retreat (15 of us) here. EVERYONE said is was one of the most relaxing places we have stayed. The property had more than enough room for all of us to enjoy each other or get away from each other for a bit (LOL) I bugged poor Robin with so many questions and she was always gracious and helpful. Many properties say they have basic needed items but this property truly had all those little items that make a big difference. The pool was a huge hit with everyone! I hired the local masseuse Marie from The Common Element to give all the adults a one hour massage at the house, it was wonderful. I hired Allison from Sierra Subs and salads to cook dinner for us two nights - fabulous! I hired Candace from Candace catering to cook two breakfasts - excellent. We went on the full day Sequoia Sightseeing tour. Paul - our tour guide- was awesome, knowledgeable and personable. He took us to some not so crowded tourist spots and showed us some fun photography techniques, even took some of the photos for us. No one in the group wanted to leave. I would highly recommend this clean, very homey and comfortable home. I can't say enough about Robin; love her. And, I can't forget the stream on the property with beautiful sitting areas. Took the grand-kids gold panning (I brought the pyrite) and had them make fishing poles out of twigs. Fun! I loved sitting on the back patio with my morning coffee looking down to the stream and across the peaceful scene.

A truly amazing property

  • 5 of 5

We would like to tell the world just how great our stay was at Redbud Trail Retreat. Sadly, we only had short stay! Did not want to leave the house- its set on a large acreage with total privacy and it is so comfortable, spacious and clean. A great destination to decompress or have a family reunion. So relaxing- in and out of the beautiful pool (which maintains a really perfect temperature) and the sound of the river running by. We BBQ’d on the terrace, took walks, enjoyed the wildlife and watched movies of which there was an incredibly large collection. Beds were great and rooms could be darkened for that important holiday sleep –in. The setting is truly amazing and Robin (the manager) we wish to thank you so much for getting us into the house at short notice. Just perfect!

Property amenities are in need of repair.

  • 3 of 5

Beautiful setting but the furniture and accessories are in need of repair. The chairs are falling apart; toaster and coffee maker are broken; mouse problem...

Owner's Response: Deb, We work hard to make our guests happy and we treasure our 5 star rating. Your review disappoints us as we were under the impression you enjoyed your stay. If a guest reports any issue concerning the house, we are very responsive indeed. Redbud Trail Retreat is a pristine country property with quality fitments and we are very proud of it (and there are absolutely no mice inside of the house). ~Robin~

Great Place

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing family vacation at Redbud. The house is about 15 minutes from the park entrance and about an hour from the General Sherman Tree, with a spectacular drive up to the big sequoia groves. The house is clean, has plenty of kitchen supplies to get you started (including a grill; we cooked every meal in house after shopping at Winco in Vasalia for groceries), and sleeps a family comfortably. You can swim in the pool and look out over the mountains during sunset. Robin was a very attentive property manager. Overall a great stay. We'd definitely come back.

Unbelievable property with so much to see. Great house with plenty of space.

  • 5 of 5

We had a family in town to see Sequoia national park and get away for a few days. The house provided us with the opportunity to relax at the pool and not leave. Or quick access to venture into town. Eat at the ol Buckaroo if your looking for a great view and food. Nice gem in town.

Owner's Response: Sharon, I love it when my guests explore Three Rivers and not just the parks. I had a couple of friends tell me that they met your group when you were out & about. I'm glad you enjoyed the property, hopefully it was a nice respite from the harsh weather you've had back east. ~Robin~

Established in 1890, Sequoia National Park is California's first national park and America's second oldest. With more than 1 million annual visitors, Sequoia National Park is a popular destination for guests from around the world. Filled with pristine wilderness, giant trees, and terrain that invite engagement with adventure, it's a place where friends and family can enjoy the great outdoors together.

Sequoia Sightseeing Tours introduce visitors to this awe-inspiring park with expert local guides who know it well.

There are more than 800 miles of Sequoia hiking trails for people of every ability and inclination, from gentle ambles among giant sequoias to moderate day hikes and full-throttle ascents.

Fly fishing, stargazing, and spelunking are on the itinerary. And when winter makes its magical arrival at the park's higher elevations, Sequoia recreation expands to include snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and sledding.

Take a leisurely drive after breakfast (hopefully with our local deer family) and climb the 300 foot stairway to the summit of Moro Rock where you will enjoy sweeping views of the western half of Sequoia National Park. Or, visit Crystal Cave, a treasure-cavern of ornate marble polished by subterranean streams and decorated with curtains of icicle-like stalactites and mounds of stalagmites.

After your daily adventures return home to Red Bud Trail Retreat and enjoy our beautiful swimming pool with the uninterrupted serenity of the river and mountain views. At dusk, enjoy your BBQ on the outdoor deck and dine watching the sun set over the Sierras.
