A lovely bright space - perfect for exploring London

Bedrooms 2
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

A bright and welcoming flat located in Brixton, London. With easy access to the tube and buses Brixton has become one of the most fashionable districts of London. Great for a longer stay, this apartment would be an ideal base to explore London from. Brixton gives you the best of both worlds, easy access to the centre of London (15 mins to Green Park on the tube although we say take the bus 159 for Oxford Street and the West End, 133 if you want to go for the Tower of London - that way you will see loads, I59 takes you right past the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben on the way to Oxford Street! Bus travel is also the cheapest form of travel in London too.

About The Owner

I work in the software industry and my wife is a full time carer. I divide my time between Eastern Europe and the UK and probably spend far too much time travelling:)!!

The Owner purchased this apartment in 2009

Why The Owner chose Brixton

Brixton is the best of both worlds - 10 minutes by tube to Green Park, plenty of buses or walk (I believe when Van Gogh lived in Brixton he claimed that he could walk from his place to Covent Garden in 45 mins - now THAT is a challenge:) ) Walking or not the centre of London is in within very easy reach, however Brixton itself is a real destination for many Londoners and there is enough going on to keep most people occupied for days on end.

What makes this apartment unique

For those wanting to visit "the sights" or working in London it has to be ease of getting to the centre - Victoria Line or buses.

The flat itself is light and quiet and a haven from the busy metropolis. For want of a better cliché - the best of both worlds:)

Will is lovely and the apartment was perfect for our needs. My only recommendation would be a light

  • 4 of 5

A light in the downstairs hallway. We had a great time. Thank you.

Séjour agréable

  • 4 of 5

  • 4 of 5

  • 5 of 5

Eine schöne helle Wohnung, in einem sehr interessanten Stadtteil. Bis auf das kaputte Sofa gibt es keine Kritik. Absolut empfehlenswert.

We love this neighborhood - it combines the hustle and bustle of London with a very quite street! Here is a challenge see if you can find the windmill on Brixton Hill!

1.Sainsbury’s: this is the local supermarket. There are two stores within a 5-min walk of the flat:

a.Brixton Hill: this is a small one that’s open until 11pm. It has alcohol and an in-store bakery

i.Walk to the end of the street and keep on going until you hit the main road (Brixton Hill). It’s there (map: see orange logo on the left)

b.Effra Road: this is a large-format Sainsbury’s and it has much more variety. Walk to the end of Josephine Avenue and you’ll see it at the end by the traffic lights (map: see the orange logo on the right)

2.Food and Drink: there are tonnes of options in Brixton. It’s a food and drink destination in London! Here are some of our favourites:

i.The White Horse: Brixton Hill 3 mins away. Best Sunday roast in the area.

ii.The Elm Park Tavern: on Elm Park, 2 mins behind the flat (no food, alternative crowd)

iii.The Prince Regent: Herne Hill 10 mins away. Great food.

iv.The Florence: 2 mins past the Prince Regent. Micro-brewery

i.Negril: the best Caribbean food in South London. Go for dinner but make sure you book. On Brixton Hill 3 mins away.

ii.Brixton Village: see below

c.Brixton Village: famous food/drink destination in the centre of Brixton. There are loads of good options. Our favourites are:

i.Salon: voted the best brunch in Brixton but its evening menu is also amazing (in Brixton Village)

ii.Kaosarn: Thai (in Brixton Village)

iii.Honest Burger: the original in the chain – great burgers (in Brixton Village)

iv.Courtesan: dim sum restaurant (on Atlantic Rd)

v.Wahaca: Mexican chain (on Atlantic Rd)

3.Food Markets: there’s a meat, fruit and veg market on Electric Avenue in Brixton every day. There’s also a farmers’ market (bit posher) in Herne Hill every Sunday.

4.Music: the O2 Academy and Electric Brixton both host famous bands and are large venues. The Hootananny (Effra Road) hosts gigs most weekends and is smaller and more pub-like

5.Cinema: The Ritzy in Brixton town centre is a beautiful cinema with a nice bar on the square. You cab buy a bottle of wine to drink whilst watching a movie!

a.Brockwell Park is 5 minutes away. See the Lido (swimming pool) and the café attached to it (great brunch). It’s a lovely park to walk around and there are good views of London.

b.Clapham Common is a wide-open space and the town is lovely (slightly posher than Brixton). It’s a 30-min walk west of Brixton down Lambeth Rd (follow cycle path 25, printed on the road).

1.Tube / trains

a.Brixton tube is a 12-min walk away. It takes you to central London in 12 mins on the Victoria Line. Oxford Circus is the main stop for shopping and it’s on our line.

b.There’re also a National Rail station in nearby Herne Hill, from where you can travel to St Paul’s for the city and King’s Cross (Luton Airport trains). It’s a 15-min walk around the park

a.You can get any bus going down Brixton Hill to the tube station if you don’t want to walk. Buses go from Brixton Hill where it meets Arodene Road (street beside Helix)

b.Coming home from the tube? Get any of the buses from the bus stop outside KFC on Brixton High Street three stops to Blenheim Gardens.

3.Going to the airport

a.Gatwick: go to Victoria on the tube (10 mins) and get the Gatwick Express (30 mins). 1 hour 15 mins in total (door to door)

b.Heathrow: you can get the tube there in 1 hour 15 mins by changing at Green Park for the Picadilly Line. Or go to Paddington on the tube and change to the Heathrow Express if you want to get there 15 mins faster. It’s about £16 each way.

c.Stansted: go to Tottenham Hale on the tube and get the Stansted Express. 1 hour 30 mins in total.

d.Luton: go to King’s Cross on the tube and then get the train to Luton. Or go to Herne Hill and get the Thameslink. This last option is the slower of the two.
