Luxury four star self-catering cottages in Co.Wexford
Uncle Tom's barn is a two storey holiday cottage which has been converted to the highest standards and comes complete with original
Stone walls and beamed ceilings.
Giving it plenty of character.
We aim to offer our guests a cosy retreat in tranquil countryside setting. Our newly renovated holiday home is located in the heart of the sunny south-east an area rich in history & culture, ideally situated to explore the many delights of the south east including the Hook Lighthouse & Peninsular, Dunbrody Abbey, J.F Kennedy arboretum/park & homestead and much more. We are within an hour from Waterford crystal and Kilkenny Castle and just 21/2 hrs from Cork and Dublin.
We are a family run business and every effort has been made to accommodate our guests and make the cottage a cosy 'home from home'. Whether you wish to have an adventure packed holiday or just a chance to unwind then this is the place for you. A warm welcome awaits.
Our story with Chloe’s Country Cottages began 10 years ago when we decided to restore the outbuildings of Stevie’s ancestral home. With little knowledge of what we were doing, but with a wish to preserve the buildings that have been in Stevie’s family for generations we began work. The original stone has been used in all the cottages which was a labour of love for a local man called Sean who hand-picked each stone before expertly placing it. It’s an art which requires a lot of patience and skill for which we are extremely grateful. We were keen to keep as many of the original features as possible, and we managed to preserve the original beams in Uncle Tom’s Barn and the tiny window now in the sitting room where many a horse peeped out their head years ago! Uncle Tom’s Barn and Mill Cottage as they are now have been in place since 2006 and 2 years later we added Rose and Sarah’s Cottages.
We consistently achieve Four Star ratings for all our cottages from Failte Ireland and strive to offer our guests a warm welcome in comfortable surroundings.
We hope that if you choose to stay with us you too will love our cottages and the area.
A little history of the area of Poulmaloe or Piltown as it is sometimes called, covers a small area just outside the village of Whitechurch. The lane beside our cottages which leads to the river Barrow was known locally as ‘the Stage’ as it was used by ships to unload coal and other wares many years ago. It was a busy hive back then and used by locals also to get the boat to New Ross. It is believed that President Kennedy’s grandfather, himself a local living just 2 miles away at the time, would have taken such a boat from here to New Ross to board the ship that took him to America all those years ago and the rest is history as they say!
Wood burning stove (first bucket of logs are provided free of charge).
Well behaved dogs are welcome.
Private off road parking available.
Electricity Free of Charge.
Very clean and well presented cottage located down country lanes. Very quiet and peaceful. Having stayed in many self-catering homes we would rate this as one of the best.
Clean and tidy property in the country which offers a fridge, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble drier. Heating in the main is by electric storeage radiators and convectors, there is a log burner in the living room and a minimal amount of logs were supplied.
2 bedroomed property with double and single beds and large bathroom with shower over with downstairs loo.
We travelled as a couple with our dog and it was suitable for our pet as the floors are wood or/and tiles. We enjoyed the company of Diago the dog which accompanied us on many walks.
We visited many local attractions such as the JF Kennedy homestead and arboretum, the Hook Lighthouse and Duncannon Beach, as well as Waterford and Wexford and Enniscorthy. We also visited Tintern Abbey, Culclough walled gardens as well as Kimokea Gardens. There were numerous local attractions to be visited in this area.
We enjoyed 3 meals at the Hollow in Ramsgrange, which we would recommend.
A car is in absolute necessity and was initially difficult to find. A few local shops about 4 miles away in Campile.
No internet connection/broadband facilities for those wishing to remain in-touch.
Quirky barn conversion in that heat and hot water were fussy to use. No water pressure to speak of. Lounge was toasty warm once we got a fire going. Caretakers were very lovely. Directions to house difficult with or without GPS.
Nice place but not four stars!
