The house is just 2 miles from our closest town Percy which is situated on the Route de Liberté (D999) – this is the route in which the Allied Troops took after the D-Day Landing to recapture France from the Germans during the Second World War in 1945.
The surrounding area of the house is peaceful agricultural countryside and in our garden we have sheep and their lambs in season along with chickens and ducks meandering in the garden supplying fresh eggs to guests if required.
There are several villages close by providing French markets on Tuesday (Villedieu-les-Pôeles), Wednesday and Saturdays (Gavray), Saturday (Percy) each offering something different – tours can be arranged if required. We also stock a selection of locally produced organic apple juice and cider from our French neighbour for purchase. Just a short bike ride away (3 miles) is a 13th Century Abbey if you enjoy a bit of exercise!

We have a large garden of approximately 1.5 hectares which you are welcome to wander throughout and pick any seasonal fruit such as raspberries, strawberries, apples, plums and pears. At the side of the Gite is a lovely enclosed garden which contains a hot tub for your use during your stay. Sit back and relax and search the star filled skies to find the Milky Way which runs directly overhead of the Gite. The hot tub is inclusive from May to end of August but for all others it is charged at an additional costing of 100 euros per week. In addition in this section of garden you’ll find an outdoor seating area and BBQ for your use.
You will find a bottle of Organic Cider & Apple Juice to welcome you to our Gite upon your arrival.
We have been living in France since 2007, what we thought would be a six month project has turned into a complete move to France. My husband is a plumber and electrician and is certainly kept busy both at home with our projects and with his clients. Whilst we live on the same site as the Gite we are certainly far enough away to ensure your privacy but are close enough to help if you require any additional assistance. In 2012 I finally put pen to paper so to speak and wrote my first book - it offers practical advice for anyone visiting or moving to France - it is full of information I felt would have been really helpful to know - rather than find out through trial and error! The book is available on Amazon via Kindle but has also been broken down into smaller sections for specific information - it also offers lots of helpful vocabulary. The title of the main book is A Practical Survival Guide to your life in France - please feel free to browse. We look forward to welcoming you to Le Hamel Hubert soon.
Sarah Wren purchased this cottage in 2007
Our property offers a tranquil countryside setting but is close to all of the best that Normandy has to offer - local markets offering fresh local produce, all of the top tourist attractions are within 1 hours drive allowing everyone to find something that they would like to see and experience.

Sitting in a 40 degree hot tub on an evening looking up at the sky which is filled with stars watching satellites and aeroplanes go by is one of our favourite ways of spending an evening - you have the sole access to your own private hot tub. During the day, waking up to the sounds of birds chirping is a fantastic way to start the day. If you enjoy a relaxing setting, then this is the property for you. We feel that this property offers the best of both worlds, lots of land and space but close enough to all of the best attractions that Normandy has to offer.
Le Hamel Hubert is a comfortable gite in a wonderful location. It is close to many attractions including Bayeux, Normandy, and Mont St. Michel. We found the gite itself to be very comfortable with all the amenities necessary to make us very comfortable. The owners were very helpful in every way possible, and, although they live on the property, they made it feel as though we were in a very private location. This is a great find.
This beautiful cottage, located in the breathtaking Normandy countryside, has to be seen to believed.
The two wonderful owners of this gite have absolutely found their niche in life. They combine their wonderful brand of hospitality with an amazing property, and this equates to an unforgetable experience.
We were fortunate enough to celebrated our daughter's 18th birthday here, and the owners catered the event with a amazing dinner (the desert was "to die for"). We would HIGHLY recommend taking advantage of their culinary talents!
We spent a terrific week at their great little corner of Normandy, and we would most certainly do it again!
We recently had the pleasure of spending our 50th birthdays at Sarah & Allan's beautiful Gite in Percy, France. If one must turn 50, then I wholeheartedly suggest you do it at Le Hamel Hubert! The cottage is beautiful and perfectly stocked with everything you need. The 3 bedrooms each have their own bathroom which is a definite plus when traveling with 4 adults. While the cottage is perfect it is the surroundings and hosts that make this Gite the perfect place to stay for any amount of time. You will be surrounded by beautiful rolling Norman hills. Normandy has a way with the color green that is difficult to describe - I am not sure I have ever seen so many variations. We arrived late in the day and Sarah had dinner ready for us to pop in the oven. While always available for assistance, Sarah and Allan have a way of making you feel like the whole place is yours and yours alone. I am not sure I will ever enjoy another strawberry as much as the wild strawberries that Allan picked for us one morning - it is those little touches that truly make a vacation wonderful and memorable. Sarah is available and helpful throughout the whole planning portion of your trip which also makes the trip that much easier. I would stay at Le Hamel Hubert again, and again, and again!
What a beautiful rural setting. We loved this old cottage and it's great charm. We found it to be super clean and well maintained. We enjoyed the amazing history of this area and the fact Normandy was so close.Sarah and Al were wonderful hosts and had great knowledge of the area.
We would recommend this fabulous cottage to to anyone.
My wife and I and our parents enjoyed 5 fantastic days in this Gite, which is tucked away in the tranquil French countryside. All of us were looking for a location that was away from the hustle and bustle of city life, yet close enough to all the sites Normandie had to offer. We definitely found it! Sarah and Al have refurbished this fantastic little cottage with all the modern amenities one could want and we could not have asked for better hosts, their hospitality throughout our stay was exceptional. Thank you so much for making our first trip to France a memorable one. Highly recommend this experience!
We had a perfect week with our 4-persons-family (kids 7 and 9). Nice house, everything we needed was there, we were surprised by the space. Friendly, helpful owners (glad we could speak English to them, our French isn't to good). The kids also loved the owners dog, who was very lovely. We did some geo-caching with the kids, there were enough of them in the area, most on beautiful spots. This house can be recommended tot anyone who wants to have an relaxed week in Normandy
The property is set in tranquil French countryside offering walks and cycling trails. There is a beautiful forest within 20 minutes for nature enthusiasts, D-Day beaches are within 1 hour and the property is just The house is just 2 miles from our closest town Percy which is situated on the Route de Liberté (D999) – this is the route in which the Allied Troops took after the D-Day Landing to recapture France from the Germans during the Second World War in 1945. There is a zoo and petting zoo close by popular with all of our family guests.
Normandy Landing Beaches – There are a selection of beaches about 1hr away. You’ll find all the information you need on each of the beaches in the folder provided in the Gite. There are quite a few museums regarding the Second World War scattered throughout Normandy and we have listed them on a map along with an explanation on what you will discover inside! The D Day landing beaches are beautifully tranquil these days and offer lots of family fun!
Mont St Michel – A UNESCO World Heritage Site very much worth a visit – you can choose to drive directly there or if you are feeling more adventurous you can walk across the sands with a guide – if you prefer somewhere in the middle tours are available from the car park at Mont St Michel – in all cases they normally offer the chance to create a giant trampoline out of sinking sand – an amazing experience!
Bayeux – A fantastic town that not only offers amazing shopping, fabulous restaurants but the historic Bayeux Tapestry with audio guides available at no extra cost in all languages. It is also only about 10 minutes from Arromanche which is one of the British D-Day Landing beaches and hosts my favourite ice cream parlour in Normandy.
Brehal is our closest beach and an easy 25 minute countryside drive away – it hosts an incredible stretch of beach and at certain times throughout the year you have what is known as the “Grandes Marées” where the tide goes out for miles and you can pick up all sorts of shellfish with your bucket and spade and bring it home for tea! It’s great fun especially if you have children and best of all its free!
Christian Dior Museum - the birth place of Dior is in Granville – the gardens are remarkable and are free to walk around, the views of the sea from the terrace would let you think you were in St Tropez with their blue azure waters. The museum itself is payable hosting Dior’s own collections.
Villedieu-les-poele is known as the city of Copper and produces vast amounts of goodies in copper there is also a working museum allowing guests to watch copper church bells being created.
