Enjoy life in Tokyo!
My husband and I stayed in this unit in Tokyo for around 5 nights in September 2011. We had planned to go to another location for 1 night but due to land slides, were unable to get to our planned accommodation. Without anywhere to spend the night, we contacted Ayako who was beyond accommodating in letting us stay an extra night at virtually no notice. Admittedly, we got a little lost figuring out which street to turn down to find the apartment but with the help of some friendly businessmen we spotted the hair dressers on the corner followed closely by the ever so convenient vending machine across the street.
Ayako arrived right on time to let us in and took us through all the important things about the unit. She has a fantastic guide on how to use all the electrical appliances and I was particularly amused with the fancy shower contraption. There is everything you can possibly need, we particularly liked having the washer/dryer handy. We didn't use much of the cooking gear as we always ate out (who wouldn't in Japan!) but the kitchen looked well stocked with everything you could need. The laptop with internet access was a huge bonus making it very easy to plan all the train rides and venues for each day's adventures.
When we first walked in we were very impressed. This may be a studio but it doesn't feel like it at all - it is so spacious! It was just the two of us but with the two double/queen beds you could easily sleep 4 without feeling really overcrowded.
The apartment isn't far to the JR loop line and is even closer to one of the local lines which admittedly we didn't use (having a JR pass). Right under the station there is a huge market-like shopping area which can definitely keep you amused. My particular favourite was a permanent stall right under the JR tracks selling bite sized crepes. I stopped in every day on the way home to get my fill for dessert and admittedly breakfast!
We could go on and on about the apartment but what made our stay particularly brilliant was Ayako! She helped me in planning the trip, which was a surprise present for my husband, even assisting in purchasing tickets that were only available on Japanese websites. From the welcome note to the little gifts she had left, everything was perfect. To me this support and friendly welcome is a priceless bonus you cannot get in a hotel.
We will certainly stay again when visiting Tokyo.
Thanks Ayako, we look forward to seeing you again!
This place was very nice. Well located, well equipped, clean and very cozy. Previous comments are true, it’s hard to add more! The beds were very comfortable!
Didn’t need to bring our slippers, they were provided. For the family of 4 was a bit tight but still comfortable. Heaters worked well during cold nights. And a pocket wifi was a big plus! The binder with all the rules and instructions in English helped a lot, especially when we needed to use a washer/dryer machine.
Thank you Hisae!
We had a wonderful 9 night stay in this clean, comfortable and well-equipped Ueno apartment. The space was great. Everything we needed was there: comfy beds, cozy duvets, towels, kitchen essentials, washer & dryer, shower, heated toilet seat, umbrellas, slippers, in-room laptop & WiFi. A pocket WiFi (which can be used throughout Japan) was also provided. So no need to rent one when you arrive in Tokyo. We found this to be extremely useful. There was also a binder providing house rules and clear instructions on how to use various equipment.
The location was perfect as it was within a:
- block to restaurants and grocery shops (for reasonable priced ready-to-eat meals, sushi and sashimi).
- 5 minute walk to a subway station.
- 15 minute walk to Ueno JR Station, Keisei Skyliner Station, Ueno Park, Ameyoko Shopping Market, and many other shops and restaurants.
- 20 minute walk to Kappabashi Kitchen Town
- 30 minute walk to Sensoji Temple. (While in that area, check out Suzukien Asakusa . It's a short walk behind the temple. They carry various intensity of matcha ice cream. Be prepare for a lineup. It's worth the wait.)
- 30 minute walk to Edo-Tokyo Museum and Sumo Museum.
Hisae, thank you for your hospitality from the beginning to the end. You always responded quickly to our messages, both outside and within Japan. And thank you for the welcome goodies tray.
We highly recommend this place, and will definitely be back!
Hisae-san was an incredible host from the start. On a whim, we decided to travel to Tokyo and calling this place home-base was absolutely fantastic. From the beginning, Hisae was very easy to communicate with. The amenities the apartment offered were perfect and exactly what we needed! Upon arrival, the property was clean and well maintained. I would totally recommend this spot to any traveler who would like to stay in a less - touristy part of Tokyo and feel like a real member of the city.
I don't know where to begin....We had an incredible 21 day stay in Japan and this apartment afforded all the conveniences of our home away from home.
From the very beginning, Hisae was the perfect host. Very helpful in answering our questions and working with our schedule. She met us at the apartment the night of our arrival even though our flight was delayed. Hisae gave us a quick tour and pointed out the binder prepared with instructions in English for the use of appliances and the necessary "need to know" items.
The apartment itself is very comfortable and well stocked with what is needed. It was very quiet and safe. Bedding was very comfortable and we got wonderful rest after our long days of exploring Tokyo.
The apartment is in walking distance to several markets and many shops, several train stations, and sightseeing locations.
We really enjoyed our stay and have many amazing memories made.
Thank you, Hisae, for your wonderful hospitality. You were the perfect Host!
Nicely located apartment in Tokyo with lots of locations for sightseeing not far away. With a bike rental shop that's only 5 minutes away by walking, you can go through all of the amazing places in Tokyo in just a few days. There's great food and grocery stores just a short walk away. The house itself is very nice and beyond comfortable. Great size to accommodate two or three people, maybe four if you don't mind a tight fit in the bed. The bathroom works fantastically, and the shower is perfect for when you just need to relax. It has its own temperature gauge so that you can control the water temperature. There is a binder that has all of the instructions in English, which was very helpful, and even had a few spots to go to if you had the desire to. Overall, we loved the place and would love to stay here again if we come back.
Very well located apartment, clean, spacious and makes us feels like at home.
Photos are 100% accurate and Hisae is a very kind and friendly person who always answered our questions during our stay.
We highly recommend this apartment !
Next time we come back to Japan, we will for sure stay at this place !

One of the few places that retains the old flavour of Edo is Asakusa. I recommend visiting the Kaminari-mon, or taking a stroll through the quiet back ways of the town. A little to the north in Ueno's Ameyoko, just listening to the hawkers and spruckers you can get a feel for the colourful, lively haggling that used to be the hallmark of the district.
