|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
Located right on the banks of the Mississippi River with fantastic views of the river and nature from the dining area, the living room, three of the bedrooms and the large 14 foot by 34 foot deck. Watch wildlife and riverboats from a wide open view of the river.
Our location has one of the most awe-inspiring views of the Mississippi River around. The early morning sun rises to illuminate the Iowa bluffs across the river and on a calm windless morning the water will just glisten. Just ponder sitting on the deck, drinking your morning coffee, watching the river gently flowing by and the wildlife moving about the area in their morning search for food. During the migration seasons you can watch hundreds of American White Pelicans in the area. During the fall American White Pelican migration, the pelicans will flock in the area creating areas that look like islands of snow. Although you can occasionally see Bald Eagles any time of the year, they are very prevalent in the winter when there is ice on the river. There have been many times when we have watched over 24 Bald Eagles sitting on the ice right in front of the house.
In the evening you will want to keep your camera close by to get some great photos of the sunsets over the Mississippi River. Every evening is different. On a night with a clear sky, the sun just drops below the Iowa bluffs on the far side of the river, but on an evening with some cloud cover, the skies light up with the most beautiful colors imaginable. We hope your entire stay will be beautiful weather, but unfortunately, mother nature does send some stormy weather across the river. But even a storm with lightning is something to behold.
OK, so enough with the beauty of just sitting and watching nature. If you are a river lover, the Mississippi River offers you all kinds of fun. Fishing, water skiing, tubing, or cruising up the river, it's all here for your enjoyment. Since we are located on Big Slough, off of the main channel of the river, you can have fun without having to deal with a lot of river traffic. Access to the main channel is easy if you want to cruise the river. Only five miles up the river you can get into Lower Sabula Lake where there is a great new sand beach. A great place to take young children to play. See our page 'On The River' for printable maps of the Mississippi River in this area. There is a public boat launch only a quarter mile from the house where you can launch your boat. A dock is provided to moor your boat here at the house. If you do not have a boat, you can fish off the dock or the bank or you can rent a flat bottom boat at Fin And Feather Campground just North of the house.
Plan your next family vacation at our Mississippi River Lodge waterfront vacation home.
Lorrie and I live right next door. Our home has been in the family since 1939 and evolved over the many years. We recently purchased the vacation home and completely remodeled it into a dream vacation home. We love living on the Mississippi River with all of the view mother nature has to offer and we are positive that you will never forget your visit to the Mississippi River Lodge.
Gary & Lorrie Heide purchased this house in 2011
Tremendous open views of the Mississippi River and fantastic sunsets. Very easy access to the river with a dock avilable that you can moor your boat to. A VERY large 13 X 34 foot deck with a gas grill to entertain everyone. Four bedrooms, three with queen size pillow top mattresses and one with two twin beds with pillow top mattresses. Three large full-size bathrooms, two with whirlpool tubs. Two upstairs and one downstairs. A new large fire-pit and patio is located along the river for your family evening campfire. The Great River Bike Path is only one block from the house. The Great River Bike Path runs from Rock Island to Savanna Illinois.
We had such a wonderful vacation stay at Mississippi River Lodge! Hosts Gary and Lorrie are great and so is this property. It was amazing to be able to go to sleep at night looking out to see the river right there and so many stars! Peaceful, quiet getaway. Our group was 6 adults, 2 kids and 1 dog and we all had plenty of space and all the comforts of home. Sunsets on the river are spectacular and we loved seeing all the birds, especially the pelicans. We loved this property and missed being there as soon as we left!
Great vacation! Home away from home. The house surpassed our expectations. Everything we needed and more was provided. Plenty of room for the eight of us. And all the kids (ages 12-20) enjoyed every minute of the stay...fishing, swimming, boating, bonfires. Thanks for the hospitality!!!
We spent 5 days in June at this wonderful lodge and enjoyed every minute of it! It was so relaxing just sitting on the deck and watching the boats go by; a swarm of bass tournament contestants one Saturday morning and lots of ski boats and pontoon boats every day. The beautifully decorated lodge was immaculate with everything we needed for our stay. The owners live next door and couldn't be better hosts!! We highly recommend this place if you're looking for a quiet place to relax. Great food in town, too!
House was very comfortable, clean and owners very friendly and accommodating. Only thing we'd recommend to change are the shower heads in the showers and eliminate the oil scent in the stairway landing. Scent was pleasing but overpowering. Thank you for a wonderful stay. Would recommend to friends.
Was a very enjoyable time. House was as advertised. Everything was ready when we got there. And everything worked. Planning on returning again.
The house is exactly as it is described in the photos and descriptions. The owners were accommodating in allowing us to check in a little early. The place was extremely clean and well kept. The view was absolutely amazing and BBQing on the deck was a lot of fun. We had 7 guests and never felt crampt. The house is great for people who love nature, being outdoors, and just relaxing. The only drawback is that there is not much to do in town, so you pretty much will spend your entire trip at the house.
Our annual family golf outing took us to Tomson, Illinois and the Mississippi River Lodge. Our experience was fantastic. The hosts, Gary and Lorri could not have been more accommodating. Our view of the sunset on the Mississippi river each night was amazing. Super clean rooms and a wonderful large deck made for the perfect stay. We had a total of 8 people and never felt crowded. It was money well spent. We will be back. I highly recommend it.
