About the property

Directly on the beach - Great for shelling and long beach walks - Amazing views

When we travel over 1,000 miles from our home in Kansas City to enjoy a beach vacation we're not interested in being steps from the beach, across from the beach, or having what is often euphemistically advertised as, “a view of the beach.” We want to be smack dab right on the beach and have a direct view of the ocean.

In our opinion, it simply makes no sense to stop 1,000 or even 500 feet short of our destination. This is why, after an intense three-year search for what we consider to be the perfect location, we chose the closest condo to the Gulf of Mexico on Siesta Key. With the wide-open floor plan, you will enjoy direct Gulf views from the master bedroom, living room, dining room and kitchen. This is beachfront at its best!

As you can see from the aerial photograph above, Fisherman's Cove is built on a very narrow strip of sand and sits directly on the beach. The Gulf of Mexico is approximately 150 feet from our lanai and master bedroom window, and the bay inlet is only about 100 feet from our east balcony and guest bedroom window.

This unique location gives us the best of both worlds - the beach and magnificent sunsets to the west, and sunrise across the bay to the east. We are so close to the Gulf of Mexico that some of our guests have said, “sitting on the lanai is like being on the lido deck of a cruise ship,” and virtually all our guests exclaim, "the pictures simply don't do it justice."

After buying the condo, our first priority was perfecting the 120 square foot lanai. At the risk of sounding gauche, we spared no expense when we decided to rip out the old and start fresh with 13 feet of floor to ceiling sliding glass panels across the western view of the gulf, and a large picture window facing the beach to the south.

To perfect the view we replaced the "picket fence" railing you'll see on other condos with a custom tempered glass rail. The picket fence we replaced made us feel like a prisoner peering at the beach from behind bars. With the new design you enjoy the ambiance of a totally unobstructed view of the Gulf of Mexico.

Another frustration with the old design, which is also common with most condos, was it had a fixed screen that made it impossible to take good sunset pictures. Our new design uses sliding screens, which enables you to take great sunset pictures from the comfort of the lanai. You can see one of these sunset pictures above and there is an entire gallery dedicated to sunsets and moon-sets on our dedicated website.

Both of the bedrooms are large and easily accommodate king-size beds with night stands and outlets for charging smartphones on both sides. Both bedrooms also have large dressers and chests as well as large closets for storage.

To insure you fully enjoy this unique ambiance, we equipped both bedrooms with king-size Jamison pillow-top beds. Jamison is well-known as the supplier for the highly rated beds used in Marriott hotels, and the bed we selected is two notches up from the one Marriott uses.

The master suite has a private on-suite bath with a large tiled shower and a direct beachfront view of the Gulf of Mexico. With its 4' by 6’ sliding window, you will be lulled to sleep at night by the sound of the waves; the perfect prescription for relieving stress!

Your guests will enjoy a beautiful sunrise view with their large bay-front window. Your guests can also close off the guest wing of the condo so they have private access to their full bathroom that includes a tiled tub and shower combination.

For your convenience, your reserved parking space is straight across from the entrance where you will find an elevator and carts you can use to move things between your vehicle and your room.

For us, vacations have always been about creating memories, and taking time to unwind from the demands we face in the crazy world.

At the south end of Siesta Key you escape the traffic congestion and maddening crowds that are common on the northern end of the island. At the south end traffic moves smoothly along tree-lined streets and you won’t have to fight crowds to find a spot to sit on the beach. There are three good restaurants with indoor and alfresco seating within a short walk, and a dozen more within two miles, so you may decide there is no reason to venture beyond our little slice of paradise.

Also within a short walk is a full-service marina, a playground for kids, and secluded picnic area with a grill that is perfect for a sunset cookout. Our guests are also welcome to use the gas grills you’ll see by the bay and boat docks.

Kayak rental and tours are also within easy walking distance; as are boat rentals, Jet Ski rentals, fishing guides and other activities. If you rent a kayak for the week, you are welcome to use our kayak storage rack and custom designed kayak launch. If you decide to try kayaking, I’ll help you plan a route where you are likely to pull next to manatees, and see some of the wonderful birds that inhabit the mangrove islands close by.

If you bring your own boat, or rent one during your stay, you are welcome to use any of the boat docks at Fisherman's Cove free of charge.

The fishing is great from both our beach and the bay, and I can help improve your luck by pointing out some of my favorite spots. Snook, Sheephead, Ladyfish, Flounder, Cobia and various members of the Jack family are common, and if you stay with us midyear, don’t be surprised if you hook into a large Tarpon.

To help you plan your vacation and navigate like a local, we provide all of our guests with a comprehensive “Siesta Key Vacation Guide.” This includes all the information you’ll need to prepare, a condo owner’s manual, our personal reviews of over 30 great restaurants and information about virtually all the activities available in the Siesta Key area. These include many great activities for families with children.

Our Guide also includes a listing of fun things to do that are not covered in the tourist brochures. For example, did you know there is a nearby beach where you can readily find fossilized shark teeth that are five to fifteen million years old? Well, there is, but it's not the one you will read about in the travel books.

While we enjoy the sporting activities, sightseeing and night life, our favorite ritual is decidedly more laid back. For us, it's all about the view, the sound of the waves and the wide-open expanse of beach that stretches for miles.

The beach in front of our condo was "re-nourished" with fresh sand from the gulf during the spring of 2016, and is perfect for walking. If collecting seashells is on your agenda, you’ll appreciate the fact that our beach offers the best shelling in Siesta Key!

To our north you can walk for approximately a mile and a half before you come to the famed Point of Rocks. When you walk the beach to the south you'll pass by one small condo, about six private residences, and following that, you'll enjoy more than a mile of totally undeveloped beachfront. This is one of the few undeveloped areas you'll find on any of any of Florida's Gulf barrier islands - it's just you, the birds and fresh seashells that washed up during the night.

As you walk further south you’ll actually cross over to very exclusive Casey Key (connected to Siesta Key). The first house you'll come to on Casey Key is owned by world-famous author Stephen King. If you are up to it, you can continue south longer than your legs will probably take you.

Whether you are planning a romantic getaway or a family vacation, Fisherman's Cove is a great destination. If you are our guest for even just one week, you'll understand why they say, "If you're lucky enough to live on Siesta Key, you're lucky enough!"

About Paul and Sherri McWilliams

We have traveled the world in search of the perfect beach, including a trip to Ko Phi Phi Lee in Thailand, which was deemed to be the perfect beach in the movie “The Beach.” However, after 40-years of searching, we came to the conclusion that there is no such thing as the perfect beach.

On Siesta Key there are two distinctively different beach environments, and one of them will likely appeal to you. We are located at the southern end of Siesta Key where crowds are sparse, and seashells are abundant. At the northern end the inverse is true.

To the north is Crescent Beach, which is one of the widest beaches we’ve ever seen. This means even “beachfront” condos are usually more than a 1,000 feet from the water’s edge, and that is a long walk in soft sand. However, more important for us is the fact you can’t hear the waves from your condo.

Crescent Beach is lined wall-to-wall high-rise condos that are orientated so there are only a small number of rooms that directly face the beach. Travelers should consider this when reading about rooms described as “beach view;” you may have to lean out from the lanai to actually view the beach.

At the southern end of Siesta Key the sand is similar to what you commonly see along the Florida Gulf Coast, and it is loaded with shells.

While the width of Turtle Beach can vary with changing tides and currents, the water’s edge is typically about 200 feet from our lanai and Master Suite window. We absolutely love being that close to the water. While relatively narrow, the beach extends for ~ 15-miles from “Point of Rocks,” which is what separates it from Crescent Beach, to the southern tip of Casey’s Key.

The moral to the story: While there is no such thing as “the” perfect beach, there is a perfect beach for you. It may be different from what we like, but that’s the great thing about beaches – there are plenty of choices, and while none are universally perfect, they all beat the heck out of shoveling snow.

Why Paul and Sherri McWilliams chose Siesta Key

Our requirements were simple - we wanted to be as close to the water's edge as possible so we could enjoy not just the ultimate view, but also sound of the waves lulling us to sleep every night. While “your mileage may vary,” for us one night with the waves is all it takes to melt away the stress of “the real world,” and put us in the perfect “Siesta” mood.

We wanted miles of uninterrupted beach to walk, and most importantly for Sherri, an abundance of seashells to collect. We also wanted the option of a boat dock, and direct bay access.

We wanted to be close to activities and good restaurants, but not stuck in the middle of crowds and traffic. We wanted a unit to be on the top floor of a three story building to keep noise at a minimum and optimize our view. While we most often use the stairs, we also insisted there be a well-maintained elevator, as well as onsite management and maintenance.

With Fisherman's Cove, we got all this and much more.

What makes this condo unique

Fisherman's Cove is on a VERY narrow strip of sand. It is built directly on the beach and the Gulf of Mexico is only about 150 feet away from our lanai. The bay, which is on the other side of our condo, is only about 100 feet to the east. With this unique location, we are literally the only condo on any of the gulf coast barrier islands that gives each guest direct beachfront to the west and direct bayfront to the east.

Bring your boat - there are ramps within walking distance and free boat docks for guests. If you don't have a boat, you can rent one just down the street.

Bring your kayak or canoe - there is a free rack for storage, and a custom made floating dock for easy launching. If you don't have a kayak or canoe, you can rent one right down the street.

Bring your fishing gear - the fishing is great in both the gulf and the bay. If you don't bring your own stuff, you can rent fishing gear close by.

Bring your sunscreen - there are miles of beach to explore and search for seashells, or you might prefer to take a snooze in our complimentary beach chairs.

Whatever you do, be ready to relax and enjoy the spectacular sunsets from your third floor lanai - no one on the island has a better view!

Wonderful Vacation

We recently had a wonderful, relaxing vacation in Siesta Key. This was our second year staying at this condo and we were just as happy this year as last. In fact, before leaving, we booked again for next year! We love the Sarasota area, there's so much to do and the location of the condo is perfect...literally right on the beach. Phenomenal views, well-maintained, nothing to worry about...and Paul and Sherri are kind enough to provide lots of guidance regarding the area, things to do, and places to eat which is so very helpful for a traveler...eliminates lots of stress in an unfamiliar locale.

Fantastic Experience!!!!

First, let me say that the photos posted on the website do not do the condo justice. In reality, we couldn't have found a more beautiful and secluded beachfront condo along Siesta Key. There were several days that we could literally count on one hand the number of families on the beach, giving the sense that we had the entire ocean to ourselves.

We ventured to Siesta Key Beach, which was packed with tourists drinking heavily and blasting music. The sand was finer and white on Siesta Key Beach, but rest assured that the condo's location boasts the same EXACT water clarity that can be found on Siesta Key Beach. In fact, the water clarity is very similar to what can be found in the Destin area.

The cleanliness of the condo was superb when we arrived, and the beds were very comfortable. The number of turtle nests on our beach were many, as well as to the more secluded area to our south, which we were actually lucky enough to see baby turtles emerge from their sand nest and venture off into the sea! The condo is just a few minutes drive to Siesta Key Village, where many delicious restaurants await. Fisherman's Cove also has (4) outdoor gas grills which were very clean and reliable. We have traveled to many condo and rental home locations for vacations in Destin, Pensacola, Daytona Beach, Key West, Savannah, Gulf Shores, Anna Marie Island, and Miami. Without any question, we have found the PERFECT condo for vacation after years of looking. Fantastic experience!!!!

Dream vacation!

My husband and I stayed at Fisherman's Cove A309 and I can't say enough wonderful things about this place! The condo is so nice! It is well stocked, maintained and beautifully decorated. It was also very clean. The view from the balcony is breath taking! The condo is a few steps from the beach. The beach is clean and safe. Perfect for families! Paul sent us a nice guide to the area full of helpful tips on where to eat and shop! We ate at the places he suggested and the food was fantastic. He also emailed several times while we were there to make sure we had everything we needed! We went parasailing, jet skiing and took a sunset cruise with Siesta Watersports. We saw dolphins, manatees, turtles and tarpons. I also collected so many sea shells! We will definitely rebook this condo in the future! The staff in the office were very friendly and helpful! You can't help but have a great time here!

Excellent Accommodations

There were four of us staying at Fisherman's Cove, Condo A309. It was marvelousl Each bedroom had it's own bathroom, the beds were very comfortable. Sitting in the balcony room was like sitting on the beach, without the heat. The plexiglass was a wonderful feature. When you are sitting at the table there aren't any rails to block your view. I believe it's the only condo that offers that amenity. Paul suggested wonderful restaurants to eat at and all were right on the money. Our favorites were Ophelia's, Turtles (not the one on the bay, didn't eat there), Anna'sDeli for sandwiches, Clayton's, and Toasted Mango for breakfast. Should we have the opportunity to return to Siesta Key we would definitely rebook the same condo.

Perfect Relaxation!

This is simply the perfect place to get away. Everything you could need for groceries, fun activities and any kind of shopping is just minutes away by car. Once you are at the condo though, you may never want to leave. Open the windows and sliders of your on-land, cruise ship like balcony and feel the gulf to bay breezes day and night. Watch the porpoises, full moon, fishermen and phenomenal sunsets from the lanai. The beach, though lacking the powdery sand to the North, is practically private with excellent swimming, shelling and miles to walk in either direction. We much preferred the quiet, neighborhood feel of this area to the bustle and traffic towards Siesta Key Village. There are 3 restaurants within a very short walk of the condo. Paul is so helpful, he will provide detailed, written information about the area and the condo prior to your arrival. His call to make sure everything was in order after we arrived was a nice welcome. The condo is very comfortably furnished (master bed was bliss), clean and freshly painted. The kitchen is well equipped: small cooler, insulated coffee mugs, array of pans and tools, blender, plenty of dishes and glassware. The elevator and stairs are 1 unit away - close but not next to - was great. We loved our stay in this condo - it was perfect relaxation!

Great Condo! Great Stay. Beware of the beach

The condo was in fabulous condition. Parking is right out back. Beautiful linai. Everything is there for you. Owners are great. We had no issues whatsoever. Beware of the beach there. It is in terrible need of restoration. The photos you see are not what you will experience. There is almost no beach left. There is no powder sand left, just gritty gray stuff. We ended up driving down to siesta public beach every day where it is much nicer. If this place had a nice beach, it would be 5 stars. We go to Florida for the beach.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words about our condo and the support we provided to help you plan what we hoped would be a perfect vacation. The county originally scheduled to re-nourish our beach during the spring of 2015, but politics ended up delaying the project to 2016. However, the project is now underway, and will be completed before turtle nesting season starts on May 1st. In total they will extend the width of our beach by approximately 150’ from about one mile north to about one mile south of our condo. While it won't be the quartz sand you find to the north, the fresh sand they bring in from the gulf will be the light color and fine texture you typically find on Florida’s gulf coast beaches. The pictures from the lanai and master bedroom window show the beach as it was during 2015. The picture towards the end that shows the open beach is also current. The two aerial shots show the beach as it should look following the re-nourishment (they were both taken right after the last re-nourishment). Even after our beach re-nourishment, Siesta Key will still offer two very different vacation experiences. To the north the beach is VERY wide - in most places well over 1,000'. The sand there is 99%+ white quartz and is as fine as baby powder. Beyond the fact seashells are very scarce on northern Siesta Key, the downsides for us are the wall-to-wall condos, large crowds on the beach and a very long walk to the water's edge. When we stayed at a condo on northern Siesta Key we also missed being able to hear the waves from our lanai and bedroom window. However, as we note below under the subtitle "Owner info", there is no such thing as perfect beach; some people want to be in the middle of the action, and don't mind a long walk to the water, but other people prefer picking through seashells during a quiet morning walk, being close enough to water to hear the waves as they fall asleep at night, and the laid-back atmosphere we enjoy at the southern end of the island. We like both experiences, so while we cherish the slower pace of the south end, we encourage our guests to explore the wide variety of beaches that surround our little slice of heaven. We are happy to learn that you found a beach that is only a short drive from our condo that you liked so well.

There are no extra fees for cleaning, linens, high speed WiFi or anything else.

Due to the fact we give our guests staying with us in the current year the first option to rent the same week for the next year, we only accept reservations one year in advance.

There are NO extra charges for maid / cleaning service, linens, broadband Internet (WiFi) or parking. Our guests are also welcome to free use of our boat docks, kayak storage and custom kayak launch dock. There are several options for short or long-term boat, canoe or kayak rental.
