Escape from NYC!!
What can I say? If you want to experience natural beauty, wonderful hospitality and a gracious host, this is the place for you. Unpretentious and kind are only a few of the adjectives to describe our host who went out of her way to make us feel comfortable and relaxed. Shelter island is a place from my childhood memories of summers spent in a small town in New Hampshire where everyone waves hello and wishes you a nice day. Can’t wait to go back!
Cute farm cottage with water front
My husband and I enjoyed a short stay at this property. It’s a private cottage on a family estate. Picteresque farm with hills and history. There’s a little dock on the bay. Gorgeous waterfront views and calm bay waters. We picnicked right there with a bottle of wine and enjoying the serenity. The unit itself was clean, amply furnished and just the right size for a couple (and yes we could have fit our two smaller kids but welcomed the adults only time without them). The owners greeted us and were on site if we needed them but were not intrusive. I highly recommend it!!
Wonderful and relaxing
The cottage is lovely We had no idea of the historical significance of the property It is truly special. And Margaret is wonderful. We hope to come back. Thank you. Jon and Jim.
Warm hosts and a perfect location make this a perfect vacation getaway
Located right on the bay, this cottage was the perfect spot for our Shelter Island visit. The owners are charming, friendly, and helpful, and being able to grill, dine outside, and watch the sunset always made for the perfect end to our perfect Shelter Island days.
Just a wonderful, wonderful spot
We stayed at the cottage on Westmoreland Farm for six days in June. The cottage itself is modest but completely charming and well-maintained. It reminds me of a time when vacations in New England were more about modesty and getting away, not about ostentation.
I can't say enough about the friendliness and welcoming spirit of the owners, Margaret and Karl, who made sure that we found our way, greeted us upon arrival, and helped with anything we needed during our stay. They even stocked the refrigerator with some eggs from their chickens.
Note that when you do stay at this cottage you are participating in a little bit of history. Westmoreland Farm was a sprawling Victorian project, which has now been in the same family since the 1930s. It is a blessed piece of land with lots of family history. A perfect setting for enjoying the calm and quiet of Shelter Island. After a day out, there's nothing better to returning to the cottage and enjoying the sun setting over the lake.
