ABOUT PINE LANDING, CLARKSVILLE, & KERR LAKE
Pine Landing is a highly versatile home, and not many homes at Kerr Lake are able to be this accommodating; Pine does it to perfection perched right on the shore!
For the tight-knit family gathering at the house, they will see the accommodations keep them together comfortably, each doing what they wish. Play games using the high-speed Wi-Fi, read a book in the sun room, whip something up in the large kitchen, lay out on the sun deck, gather in the screened porch to rock and get caught up with one another, be delighted by the brilliant 72" Sony Bravia Hi-Def TV with the Sony Bravia surround sound system, take a walk across the street to the cluster of apple trees where deer spend a lot of time, swim off the dock, or just take that well deserved nap.
Sometimes, it's a family inviting a second family to join together at Pine Landing for a much busier week. Pine Landing is ready. Swimming at the dock every day, check! Got a boat, bring it! Don't have a boat, we'll help you rent one for the whole week and you will keep it at the dock of the house every night. Tuesday night, it's Bingo at the Community Center supporting the Ruritans! Wednesday, back at Pine, it's pizza and game night in the sunroom! Early in the morning, the Dads and kids all get up early to go on a guided canoe tour, meanwhile the Moms go to the Amish furniture factory a couple of towns over. The history buff in the family made tour reservations at a local gem they have on their list - Prestwould Plantation. Prestwould Plantation is the most intact and best documented pre-Civil War plantation surviving in Southside Virginia. And, if golf is your game, there's Kinderton Country Club featuring a Donald Ross designed course just five minutes from Pine Landing
Perhaps your whole family is all about the lake - imagine the fun your family can discover at Pine Landing. You are at a huge, lake-front home where playing in the lake, getting out on a boat, and having fun in the sun is all there is on your agenda ... for the whole week. You've got 800 miles of shoreline and 49,000 acres of water as your playground. After a great day of family time outside, freshly tanned, you come back to the house and grill your favorite meal. The aroma coming off the grill sets everyone's appetite! Sit, relax, enjoy dinner, have that beverage and rest knowing everything is just fine at Pine Landing.
The back yard is huge with a sloping walk to the lake and your own private dock with ladder. There is plenty of water depth for your big boat and launching ramps are less than five minutes from the house. So, bring your whole family, your boats and jet skis, and get ready to have plenty of quality time together. Oh, the dog is welcome, too.
Whatever your plans, here is more about the house!
ABOUT THE HOUSE
The house has a main level and a 'cottage' level which traces back to the house's history. In the 1950's after Kerr Lake was formed, just a summer cottage was on this land. Years later, my family built the house which stands today and massively renovated the summer cottage.
The main level has all of the major parts of the home - living room, sitting area around the wood-burning fireplace (not available in the summertime), dining area, kitchen, screened porch, open porch with grill, laundry room, and a full bathroom in the hall. There are two bedrooms: the Main Master Bedroom, with en-suite, has a king-size bed, a 32' HDTV and DVD player, two closets, and French doors opening out to a deck with a lake view. The Main Second Bedroom also has a king-size bed, a 32' HDTV and DVD player, a large closet, and two dressers. Both of these rooms also have luggage stands to make unpacking easier.
The adults enjoy this main level of the house. The living room boasts a wood burning fireplace (available when outside temperatures are 50 and below), the 72" Sony Bravia high definition TV coupled with the Sony Bravia home theater surround sound system, cable TV with 230+ channels, cloth and leather furniture. The kitchen open concept allowing the cooks to remain involved with the action in the living room, or friends may join the cooks by sitting at the kitchen six-seat island.
About six steps down from the main living area you arrive on the cottage level in the sunroom which has plenty of seating, many books, and two sets of French doors that reveal an open, sunny deck with lounge chairs and end tables.
Off the sunroom, there is the entrance (with a door) to the cottage. You enter the cottage living room which has a large window looking out to the lake, plenty of seating, and a 42" HDTV with DVD. The kids can gather here - they have their own living room (that door comes in handy if they get too loud), their own cable TV with 230+ channels, three bedrooms and two full baths, and separate HVAC system. The showers in these rooms have pre-set temperature maximum control for added peace of mind.
The cottage master bedroom has a queen-size bed and en-suite bathroom; the second bedroom also has a queen-size bed and en-suite, and the third bedroom – which is Pine's fifth bedroom - has two twin beds. The twin bedroom shares the bathroom of the second bedroom by entering a different door (think of a Jack & Jill bathroom). The couch in the cottage’s living room has a unique pull out bed that inflates by using a special electric air pump and is available to families with 11 or 12 people (the air pump is provided to you when you pick up the house keys).
For a schematic of the house’s layout, see the photos section.
There is plenty of parking for cars and trailers because there is a large, circular driveway, and there is a spur off leading to the additional parking area by the garage (sorry, the garage itself is not available for use).
I am an American Sign Language/English Interpreter. When not working, I like escaping to Kerr Lake and getting out on the boat and jet skis. I have Dachshund and she goes with me everywhere, especially on vacation! The picture of above is my family out on Kerr Lake on sunny day. If you look closely, you'll see Millie, my miniature Dachshund, on the deck, midships.

Pine Landing has been in our family for many years and is perfect for us because it's just three hours from home. It's easy to get to, but remote enough that we really feel like we've gotten away from the hustle and bustle of busy cities. Small town America is the 'lap' of our country. Just like sitting on my Dad's lap as a kid, it's a safe, comfortable place to go back to over and over. It brings us great satisfaction to share Pine Landing with other families, knowing the house is giving pleasure and respite to many people.
The screened-in porch off the kitchen, overlooking the water, has got to be the most used space by my family and friends ... well, second to the kitchen. My gosh, how many hours we have spent there just talking and sharing with one another. We host a big group of friends every year for a gourmet cook-fest, now known as Cholesterol Fest because of the amount of butter so many delicious recipes call for. We began Cholo-Fest in 2003, loved every meal prepared, every calorie swallowed, and all those times spent with friends. Our philosophy of life is this: We work to live, we don't live to work.
When it is strictly a family gathering at Pine, one of the rituals we have is whoever gets up first starts the coffee and runs into town to pick up a Richmond Times newspaper. We all go to the enclosed porch, drink coffee, read the newspaper and watch the lake wake up. It's then that someone offers to make breakfast for everyone - usually pancakes or eggs wins the vote.
Then we plan out who's doing what that day. Is it boating, jetskiing, antiquing in town, running over to South Boston (about 30 minutes away) to go to the movies or just hanging out at home?
At night, we usually cook in every other night, and eat out the other nights. We love grilling out - burgers, steaks, chicken or lamb chops. We lovingly call the grill "Grill-Zilla" because a friend once put lamb chops he had soaked in olive oil over night right on the grill. That cause a huge flame burst that singed a tree limb that at the time was above the deck. He scared everyone at first, but once we knew he was fine he came inside and, like the tree limb, he was singed, too ... just like a cartoon. That's when Grill-Zilla was born.
Welcome to Pine Landing at Kerr Lake. We trust you will find everything to your liking and exactly as described. If you enjoy our visit, be sure to tell your friends. If there were to be any problems, tell us so that they may be remedied immediately.
Our group of six couples spent their 14th year of vacationing together here. We like to have at least three bedrooms and three baths, not always easy to find on a budget. This rental was wonderful with lake views and plenty of room. The new kitchen was tremendous; and since we cook in most nights on vacation, we were impressed. The TVs were nice and the sound system was the best we have had in a rental. There were plenty of seats for us to all sit together an watch movies. The only negatives were the very small microwave that wouldn't hold a large casserole or potatoes for a group and only having one key given to us so we had to hide the key if we went in different directions and returned a different times. Also, the last bedroom on the left of the addition had a horrible mattress that collapsed in the middle and came up on either side, engulfing the couple. Fortunately we had two extra bedrooms, but the mattress will have to be replaced if a larger group rented it. All-in-all though, we would return and recommend the place to others. Thanks.
We just spent a great week at Pine Landing by beautiful Kerr Lake. What a gorgeous, secluded place to relax and enjoy time together! Ten of us from three states and between the ages of 2 and 72 were perfectly accommodated by the beautiful house. We loved having our coffee on the screen porch every morning overlooking the sparkling lake, early morning kayaking around the peaceful inlet, and lazy afternoons swimming and floating off the private dock. We looked forward every evening to meals together around the table in the scenic dining room. The newly remodeled kitchen had everything we needed for cooking (two fridges, double convection oven plus range, ample cookware and serving dishes), cleaning up (2 dishwashers and two sinks), and even celebrating our 8-year-old's birthday..
The teenagers appreciated the "cottage" living area where they could play games and watch tv. The parents of the two-year-old appreciated that there were plenty of places we could hang out without disturbing afternoon naps. We enjoyed the area wildlife (particularly dear and blue heron) and even the walkway through the pine woods was beautiful. We rented a pontoon boat for tubing and fishing, some of us toured the nearby historic Prestwould Plantation, and we enjoyed a few of the area restaurants. We'll always remember our time together at Pine Landing!
The home is as described and roomy. The kitchen is well stocked and the remodel on it is absolutely gorgeous. The owner is accommodating and is quick to respond to any questions. This was the second time we have stayed at Pine Landing at Kerr Lake and it's one of our favorite rentals.
We loved Pine Landing! The house sits on a beautiful, peaceful bit of the lake. With a private dock in a sheltered cove, it was the perfect place to lounge, float and swim. There were some very heavy rainstorms just before we arrived, and after passing over other parts of the lake, we were afraid the water would be muddy. Instead, when we arrived, we found the water at Pine Landing gin clear. It's simply a gorgeous site, and the house offers a number of lovely views of the lake. With 5 bedrooms and (!!) four full baths, you can host quite a crowd, too. Excellent wifi, and tv's throughout the house mean that even if you have folks that don't just love the water like we do in your party, no one will be bored. Our favorite thing, though, was the kitchen. If you like to cook meals on your vacation, and you've ever traveled in multifamily groups, you know how inadequate the kitchen spaces usually are in vacation homes. Not Pine Landing! The brand new kitchen has everything you need not just to prepare meals, but (and this is a wonder) also to clean up afterwards. Ample quality cookware and kitchen implements. Not one but two(!!) convection stoves, sinks and dishwashers. An open design with counter seating opposite the "working" makes for a great social gathering spot while still keeping meddlers out from underfoot. You'll love it, chef! We did.
Easy acsess to the lake, quiet area, plenty room/ baths to accommodate most every situation.
Great water access and views. Big, fully-equipped kitchen to prepare meals for the whole group. WiFi with enough access for everybody and their devices. Wonderful spaces where we all could be together. Just perfect!
Situated Kerr Lake, also known as Buggs Island Lake, is a 49,000 acre lake that has 800 mile of shoreline and it straddles the Virginia/North Carolina border. The lake is an Army Corps of Engineers property used for flood control and is a drinking water supply for Virginia Beach.
The rules that govern the lake are set by the Corps. One highlight of the rules is that approximately a small 30% of the shore was allowed to be developed for homes, and the remaining 70% is thick with trees and wildlife. What this means for you is the lake is very quiet and never, ever cluttered with boats. It is very common that on sunny summer days with great big blue skies and warm weather you will see no more than about 20 boats on the water. This makes for comfortable boat rides, a safer environment for skiing and tubing, and an opportunity to revel in the beauty of nature without having to dodge a boat or jet ski every 15 seconds. If you have ever been on a busy lake, you know exactly how it can damper an otherwise beautiful day.
Clarksville is a classic American small town. There's just about everything you need in town, and many of your wants are there, too. Plenty of small shops for knick-knacks, an awesome bait and tackle shop, antique stores, a full-size grocery store that carries just about anything you can imagine. The town and others nearby like to have festivals during the summer, encouraging people from the region to join in celebrating the lake, wine, various fruits, etc. Speaking of fruits, during the summer be sure to look for the fresh vegetable and fruit stands that will pop up in town. The asparagus and strawberries are exceptional!
