About Joel Rosenberg
We've lived on both coasts (NY and CA) and have been back in the San Francisco area for quite some time now. Mill Valley is a treasure but we love to travel (Europe, Asia and South America) to take in different cultures, meet people, and experience the local food, music, art, architecture and nature. This is a special location from which to explore the trails of Marin County or to drive a short distance to San Francisco, Berkeley or Napa Valley...and if you need suggestions don't hesitate to ask.
Why Joel Rosenberg chose Mill Valley
This is one of Mill Valley's most unique properties with perhaps the best location possible. You can enjoy a lush garden filled with roses, dahlias, rhododendrons, camellias, and succulents that is screened by beautiful mature trees and still gets lots of direct sun. You will love being so close to downtown Mill Valley or the hiking trails, without being in the middle of it all.
What makes this Guest House unique
When you approach this property the first thing you notice is that while very conveniently located close to the center of Mill Valley, it has unusual privacy due to the lush landscaped gardens that surround the Cottage, Carriage House and our home. You're also just a few steps from the Dipsea stairs or other trails in Cascade Canyon. But, unlike Cascade Canyon, you can enjoy sunshine here because the majestic redwood trees are also just a few steps away from our property. We have taken our time over the past 8 years to meticulously renovate, decorate and landscape for comfort, beauty and enjoyment.

Enjoyed Mill Valley stay
Location great. If you want to stay outside SF but reasonably close by then Mill Valley is the place. Some very good eating in walking distance. The actual apartment has some drawbacks. Small apartment, the TV and sound system in bedroom... why not in lounge? Heating a bit stuffy. Laundry in main residence for use at owner convenience. Parking normally on street but not always available. Owner accommodating and permitted to park on property.
Marvelous in Mill Valley
This was our 2nd stay with Joel and Jane and it didn't disappoint! We are always greeted with wine and lovely goodies, not to mention bathrobes and Turkish towels!
We love being pampered in this absolutely lovely environment!
We stayed in the smaller of the two units this time and although smaller was still delightful! Can you tell we love it here?!
We especially enjoy the proximity to the downtown restaurants etc. We definitely give it 5 stars!
My sister and I loved this cottage. It was immaculate and so close to all the shops and restaurants. On a drizzly rainy day it was great to come back to the fireplace and get warm. The owners are very nice, but also respect your privacy. My sister is planning on returning with her husband to this place in the future. It is a very easy drive into SF and other surrounding areas. The Village Market has all the wonderful gourmet foods and wine you could want.
This is the second time I have stayed in Joel and Jane's cottage and it was lovely!
Joel and Jane are fantastic hosts and their cottage is quaint and comfortable. I love the little extras they have like nice toiletries and snacks! The bed is comfy and the gardens on their property are beautiful. Easy walk to downtown Mill Valley and simple commute into San Francisco! Can't wait to go back!
Highly recommend in central Mill Valley
Just back from five nights in this charming property. Centrally located in Mill Valley, with easy parking. Excellent 1BR. Impeccably clean, with some very nice starting provisions. Owner lives nearby and is very responsive. We look forward to returning!
Fantastic, doorstep to the Muir Woods and close enough to everything else.
Great little character home, great location!
Thank you Matt. Enjoyed hosting you at our Garden Cottage.
Mill Valley is becoming the hub of Southern Marin County, just a 10 minute drive across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco. It is known for its bounty of outdoor sporting trails and roads (hiking and biking) and has a lively art, restaurant and evening cultural events (Sweetwater, 142 Throckmorton) scene. Mill Valley hosts an annual international Film Festival each October. It is also a short drive or bicycle ride to West Marin and the Coast, including Stinson Beach, Bolinas and Point Reyes Station.
