Stone Cottage Kos
We enjoyed this place for it suited our needs perfectly. We know Greece
well but had never visited Kos. The purpose of our trip was to see the
archaeology and do some walking. The best of the former is in the east
and the best of the latter is in the west. Stone Cottage is ideally
situated between the two and is but a short drive to the starting points
of both. The location has the added bonus of having some Caribbean
quality beaches ten minutes to the south and some pine clad mountains
ten minutes to the north. There is no shortage of things to do from this
base. We particularly enjoyed early evening strolls around the coastal
salt lake (which can be seen from the cottage) bird book in hand.
The cottage itself, although old, has been comprehensively modernised.
It has a pleasant garden, surrounded by farm fields on all sides, with
some good spots for sitting out reading or having evening retsina
overlooking the channel to Turkey a couple of kilometres away. It is but
a short step from kitchen to outside picnic benches and the impressive
bbq for eating al fresco. The kitchen and the bathroom are well
equipped. Everything we used worked fine but we did not try the
television/DVD or the a/c. The wifi sometimes involved a short
walkabout. We prepared our own meals (well stocked supermarkets and an
excellent bakery in the nearby village) but could see many restaurant
opportunities, especially along the coast, a short drive away.
Last but not least the owners live in a house located in the field
(vineyard) in front of the cottage. They are helpful and knowledgeable,
keen for you to enjoy the cottage, its facilities and your holiday.
We had a wonderful two weeks here at the stone cottage. Within half an hour of landing we arrived by taxi. It was far enough away from the main road to have peace and quiet but near enough to catch the local bus's. The cottage is very clean and has everything you need and is described accurately.Karen made us feel very welcome and was there to help find out information as needed to ensure we had a great time. It is located in an ideal place , only 10 minutes from Kos town by bus where there is much to see and do. There are a variety of boat trips to go on from there and many shops and taverna's .We did the three island tour on the Kristina boat and were very well looked after by the crew and as a bonus saw the dolphins swimming. We got around by foot, bus and the use of the bikes provided. There are two big supermarkets AB and Lidl both within a 15 minute walk. We walked up to Zia ,took about 100 minutes but was lovely to stop and just look at the beautiful views around and were then able to have a relaxing meal as olympia which is a great reataurant with views over the island. Both the food and service were excellent.
We really felt that we could just chill and relax here.
Thank you Karen for welcoming us to Kos and we look forward to visiting again. Trevor and Hayley
It is difficult to add to the reviews of this place and its wonderful hosts. The cottage is simple and beautifully located. We stayed without a car so relied on the bicycles provided, shank's pony and the local bus service - all a little adventure, and when you have all the time in the world that is the fun.
I think Karen is right with how many you could accomodate here in the summer. We spent all of our time and evenings outside so the cottage really is for sleeping, preparing food and accomodating the corkscrew. Please use the local shops in the little town.
We will want to return.
this property was just perfect in everyway for our family 2 adults 3 kids .if you want the quieter side of greece then choose here, based in zipari you are away from the hussle and bussle of kos town but close enough for a quick drive in for food in the evening although we spent many evenings eating at the bungalow as the setting is perfect under the trees. which also has a great little tree house nestled in the leaves.also its close for all beaches as i felt we were mid island but having a car made all journeys easy with air con.the bungalow has many large stores nearby such as lidel and a and b but we found the little store in zipari much better as everything felt fresher with that little greek touch.the bungalow is perfect too for anyone who likes a hike as theres many montain tracks nearby or the beautifull village of zia where you can take the 2 hour hike up mount dikeos (its a tough one but our youngest is 13 and she made it just) or just take in the amazing views with excellent nic nac shopping and great greek food on rooftop tavernas.we mostly travelled up to kefelos beaches and in the car probably took about 25 mins but tingagki beach is much closer 5 mins in car or use the bikes that were at the bungalow.having been to kos many times this is by far the best accomadation i have stayed in the kitcken was fully equiped with a cooker, fridge freezer, toaster, filter coffee maker everything you need to knock up that traditional greek evening under the stars and the lounge had tv with dvd player.the owners karen and costas were everything you could ask for and if you needed anything they would sort it. also they kindly bring fresh salad etc from their garden and vineyard whenever in season.the property was spotless and very well maintained, if in this review i was asked to find a fault really there are none its just perfect i would certainly recommend this property and will certainly be going again.but once this little gem of greece gets known about its gonna be book early time. thanks karen and costas and thanks home and away.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the stone cottage. It was well situated close to Kos town but also near lovely sandy beaches and the smaller villages for Tigaki and Mastahari, both of which had some very good restaurants.
The cottage offered all you could need on holiday and it was lovely to breakfast outside in the early morning sunshine with a view of the sea and the Turkish mainland.
Karen and Kostas were delightful, so friendly and welcoming when we arrived and we left regarding them as our friends.
This was a lovely holiday in a beautiful serene peaceful location where the only disturbance were the cows and sheep mooing. The description was accurate, the house immaculately clean, and well provisioned for a family of 6, with small children. Our kids enjoyed the tree house which was the hot point of the holiday, we enjoyed Kos town by night, the sightseeing, the off-the-track places, the local cuisine, and the stupendous weather: really lovely, warm and breezy! All in all a wonderful holiday - we will come back!
Stone Cottage is cosy and comfortable. The cottage has all the amenities you may need. It is situated in a quiet area.
