About Paul Bishop
We are sailors who bumped into this boating mecca en route to our boat in Mazatlan and fell in love with San Carlos. We have been stunned at the number of friends we have made here, and our ever expanding social life. We love to sail to remote anchorages, hangout and snorkel. Also to ride horses through the arroyos and on the beaches. Paul is a retired harbormaster and accomplished sailor and artist. Cate helped establish a Global Health Center at Oregon Health & Science University and now is writing stories of her global adventures. It always feels great to arrive back in San Carlos, where the cares of the world drop away.
Paul Bishop purchased this Villa in 2008
Why Paul Bishop chose Caracol Turístico
This is our home, we bought the land in 2003 and built several years later over a 2 year period finishing in 2008. We like the fact that San Carlos is only 250 miles South of the Arizona border and accessible by a 4 lane highway or flight from Phoenix, Arizona to Hermosillo, Mexico and then rent a car and drive down to San Carlos or take a bus or taxi. This is a boating mecca with two local marinas, moorings, dry storage, workyards and knowledgeable boat repair and maintenance people. We cruised extensively as far as Indonesia and with all the miles under our keel, we never found anywhere as appealing to set down roots. Watching the boating traffic pass by the house is magical. Mount Tetakawi located directly across San Carlos bay from our home is a historically sacred place of the Yaqui Indians and when the sun sets over Tetakawi it is very easy to see why they considered it sacred as the mountain, water and colored sky all come together in awe inspiring splendor. We love to walk on the beach and fossick in tide pools. Or sip Margaritas with friends while listening to music in a beach side palapa. One evening at the Soggy Peso, as my favorite band Bohemia was packing up, Omar the pianist launched into Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, as the sun set across the water it was so beautiful, I thought life couldn't get better than this! San Carlos rocks. Oh perhaps only the Sunset Bar and Grill rivals Bonifacio's Cotton Club Restaurant when the moon is full - stunning! Both are wonderful restaurants and the Soggy Peso, perfect for sipping on a Margarita while watching the sunset and the kiteboarders on the beachfront or just stay home and use the Bowsprit Bar and garden directly below the apartment with it's amazing views.
What makes this Villa unique
The views are world class in a Mediterranean like neighborhood. We enjoy peace and quiet on the Caracol, and often get lulled to sleep with the lapping of the waves on the shore. It is so beautiful here, that any extra sight seeing activity around San Carlos is a bonus. The house offers excellent views of the yachts going by and beyond to the Sea of Cortez. Across the bay from the house is the majestic Tetakawi Mountain where both sunrise and sunsets can be astounding. The garden located under the apartment includes the Bowsprit Bar and is also a perfect place to go read a book, have a drink and watch the sunsets and boats. We are walking distance to two charming, small sandy beaches and boating activity. There is a nearby Beach Club, with pool and kayaks. We enjoy security in our gated community as well as incredible privacy provided by the high walls and solid gate on the street and the amount of thought and design that went into the creation of the house.

Beautiful comfortable casita
The views are wonderful from this rental. All in all, a very comfortable stay. Looking forward to coming back and staying here another time.
San Carlos Sunsets
We stayed at the casita for a romantic getaway. It was quiet and private. The property sits up over the harbor and has a great view of the mountain and the sunsets. Everything we needed was provided. Local dining was excellent-especially the seafood restaurant in nearby La Manga. A pleasant surprise was our discovery that the owner was a noted artist. His works grace the quarters. We purchased one of his pieces and it now reminds us of our pleasant stay. We definitely recommend this facility for a quiet stay. Additionally it is in a secured gated location up on the hill over town.
I liked it, he loved it
The casita was very nice, and my not quite loving it has nothing to do with anything to proprietor could control. The noise of the neighborhood construction sites, the party boats going out and the smell of sewage (even when the shower drain was covered) were detractors for me. I know, Asi es Mexico. My husband was more easily pleased, and he loved it. I loved the views, watching the light hit Tetakawi and watching the life of the harbor through binoculars. I love watching pelicans.
This review comes as quite a surprise for us. Yes, thank goodness they are in the final stages of upgrading a house two doors down from us. The sewer smells are what has us troubled by this review. Perhaps the construction crew was reconnecting the plumbing while these people were here. We have NEVER had a complaint about sewage smells. Please check the other 78 reviews of our property. I was/am here, I didn't smell anything and the renters could have and should have let me know if they had a complaint while they were here as we try to provide an excellent experience for all our guests. Our property features outstanding water and mountain views. One of the most liked features of our property is the boating traffic. The view is always changing as the boats come and go from the marina. Some are charter boats and yes people are out there having a good time and playing music and laughing and generally having fun. They pass by and then they are gone. The nights are as quiet as anywhere on earth as there are no freeways or other man made noises to be heard.
We always try to please everyone staying on our beautiful property but need to know if there is a problem as it is impossible to deal with an issue if no one tells us about it.
The construction project mentioned in this review was finished at the start of December. It's quiet and beautiful here, so come on down. Paul and Cate
Breathtaking San Carlos Bay View
The property is located on the caracol which is easy to get to and as mentioned the view is one of a kind! The suite is very comfortable and the balcony is situated to take full advantage of the view. There are two sets of stairs in order to get to the casita - but didn't pose an issue for us. We just so happened to be there when Tropical Storm Sergio was upon us. Awesome experience and one of a kind! Would never want to be there should a hurricane come
our way. Highly recommended! Enjoy with a Pacifico in hand or a great margarita!
The casita is wonderful. Everything was ready for us, and exactly as described.
I've spent a lot of time in San Carlos & the view from this location is suberb.

The casita was beautiful. The views were awesome. Owner communication was precise and clear. Casita was well equipped. A wonderful stay!
San Carlos is famous for it's deep sea fishing, both summer and winter as well as being a premier boating destination in the Sea of Cortez. There are also many good diving areas, kiteboarding, mountain biking, hiking, softball league, great atving and side by side (Razr) roads and trails, pickleball, golf, resrtaurants and live music, a bird watching group and other outdoor sports.
