About Jim & Ann O'Connor
We are retired PA educators who grew up in York, PA. We are both graduates of York Catholic High School. Jim did his undergrad at Indiana State University and Ann did hers at York College. Together we have 53 years of teaching experience. Ann was first introduced to Chincoteague by her father over thirty-five years ago in this very house: Jay's Retreat. As many say, it was love at first sight. During our summer vacations there, we would dream about owning a place of our own. After putting three sons through college, in 2008 we made the leap and purchased our first rental property on Main Street. The Main Street cottage has always received rave reviews from our renters. We enjoyed every moment we could spend there. It was our happy place. In the summer of 2016, we became full time Islanders. Living on the Island has given us the opportunity to manage our Main Street property. And in 2017 to acquire and manage Jay’s Retreat.

Cheerful waterfront cottage, excellent ammenities
We had a great time returning to Chincoteague with our family & dogs. We enjoyed crabbing, fishing & kayaking and bike riding. Dining on the screen porch was wonderful with the view & making s'mores on the firepit was fun. Kitchen is well equipped, bedrooms and living space comfortable & nicely decorated. The only slightly negative thing was the size of the master 1/2 bath-very tiny space. There was an outside shower as well. We would certainly suggest this house to others - it was in a quiet neighborhood, great water access & close drive to the beach & also town.
Great place, great stay!
From the time we arrived we loved it there. They had cookies and dog treats waiting which was such a nice welcome after a long drive. The house was everything they had described. We were able to dock our boat right at the house and caught crabs off the dock; they had bikes and kayaks although we never got to use them. It is a beautiful area and a great place to walk the dogs. We loved it and would go back in a heartbeat!
Great Relaxed Family Getaway
My family had a great stay at this property. Cottage was clean and in a great location. My son in law loved crabbing off the dock and we all enjoyed riding bikes. The area is beautiful. I could have stayed here all summer! I am looking forward to being able to return to stay again. Thank you Ann for sharing your home with us!
Really loved the setting. Nice cozy house everything you need to relax. Jim was great with an air conditioning repair. Will return for sure.
Beautiful, clean, with so many extras... like a fully stocked kitchen, 2 kayaks, 4 bikes, a screened porch, fire pit on the canal side deck. A nice quiet neighborhood. We love watching the cormorant fishing in the canal like clockwork every day in the early evening. May was a nice time to vacation on Chincoteague... no crowds and the mosquitoes weren’t bad!
Home away from Home
Excellent vacation rental, the owners are great people. Fishing, crabbing and relaxation were important, but the peacefulness of the location was number one. Thanks again Jim and Ann.
