The Mermaid House is located near the beautiful sandy shores of Lake Michigan in Northern Western Michigan. The home is located 0.4 miles from Lake Michigan. It is a straight walk down the street. The home has deeded access to a private beach just south of the public county beach called Cedar Point Park which has a parking lot. Renters may use either beach. You can walk for miles on the beach in either direction. The private access beach has 84 steps straight down and Cedar Point park has about 54 steps with a partial flat bridge walk way down. The home is located within 1 mile of Silver Lake sand dunes to the south and approximately 7 miles from the town of Pentwater to the north. There are many wooded walking/hiking trails and lots of activities to do in the area. There is a large unlanscaped back yard with an attached children's play set to the deck off the kitchen. The nearest towns for grocery shopping is in Hart and there is a quaint grocery store in Pentwater.
There are numerous summer activities available nearby and winter activities include hunting, ice fishing, snowmobiling, and cross country skiing.
The larger town of Ludington is just 20 minutes north off highway 31. Ludington offers many great dining options, summer beach activities and Ludington State Park with miles of sand dunes and Big Sable Lighthouse. The Little Sable Lighthouse is located within the Silver Lake State Park.
The private beach has some beach chairs available for use and they will be labeled as the Mermaid House at the bottom of the stairs, I ask that renters please use only the chairs labeled Mermaid House as there are other property owners that have chairs there as well.
There is a gas grill on the deck off the kitchen. If you use the grill, please be kind and clean it after use. The home includes linens and basic kitchen cooking supplies. There are some books, games, and a DVD player with each TV. The home is located in a wooded neighborhood with approximately 10 other homes on a dirt road.
If you choose to stay at The Mermaid House, I am confident you will feel comfortable and contented.
In terms of clean-up: I am asking renters to strip the sheets off of beds that were used and put them in the washer and dryer. Also I ask that the garbage is taken out and placed in the bin provided. All garbage must be placed in bags. Please see that the dishes are done or placed in the dishwasher and ran. There is a cook top cleaning solution that can be used on the cook stove top to remove grime and burnt cooking debris. I ask that you use that solution to clean the stove top. - wipe free of food debris and burnt on things. These housekeeping things will help the house cleaner and assure an easier transition between renters. If these simple cleaning tasks are not completed you will run the risk of not receiving your full deposit back.
I ask that you please do not open basement windows unless there is an emergency. Doing so tends to invite unwanted critters into the home.
There is fire pit/ring in the front yard. Word of advice - mosquitos are always bad here- bring good repellent - natural or deet- whatever your preference. Oh- and sometimes the water smells despite the water softener system - so don't be scared away - it's just up north well water living - it won't hurt you. I do have a reverse osmosis water system on the kitchen sink for drinking water- that filter is more high tech and good for drinking water. The maintenance is up to date.
Also, this is a residential area. I ask that you be respectful of a 10 pm quiet time and try to keep the outdoor noise level to a minimum after that time. There are neighbors nearby that work early in the morning.
