About Bob Garner

We are Bob and Ian and moved to Marche 11 years ago to set up Casal dei Fichi. We left behind successful careers in London to move to a less stressful way of life in an area often described as 'all of Italy in one region'. We live on site with our two dogs, 4 cats and 7 chickens. We are very proud to have established a reputation for helping our guests have a fantastic holiday.

Bob Garner purchased this apartment in 2005

Why Bob Garner chose Fermo

We chose this property to renovate and convert into apartments because of the view - it has a wonderful panoramic 360 degree view and it is the first thing that our guests comment on when they arrive! The area is truly stunning and we are located near to a village for shops, restaurants and things to see and do. We also chose our area as it less than one hour's drive from the airport which we think is an important factor for our guests - why be driving when you can be sat by the pool with a glass of local vino!

What makes this apartment unique

We have tried to create a friendly, stylish and comfortable place for your holiday. We are there if you need us and we are always ready to give advice, book a restaurant or organise a day out or event for you. If you like your peace and quiet then you have it - as one guest review said 'Bob and Ian are available but never intrusive'.

Please join us for our weekly complimentary pizza party based on our original brick oven in the garden - great fun to make your own pizza and share it with your fellow guests.

In the grounds you will find an orchard, herb and vegetable gardens and our free range chickens, please help yourself to our produce - nothing better than fresh ingredients straight from the garden!

Finally we have worked hard to make sure you have everything you need in your kitchen to prepare a wonderful meal. The feedback we get is that we have thought of everything and we have tried to equip your kitchen to the same standard as you have at home.

Guestbook comments from the owner

After reading about Casal Dei Fichi's gourmet break years ago we finally took the plunge and signed up.

In the 72 hours between being picked up and dropped off at the airport we had 6 amazing dining experiences (not including the breakfast. The venues for dining ranged from rustic traditional places atop a hill, to a stunning spot at the foot of the mountains, to fine dining within an ancient walled town, to a cosy spot in a medieval plaza to a seafood restaurant by the Adriatic coast, and even Casal dei Fichi itself. In this time we had antipasti, pasta, vegetables, fish, shellfish, meats, desserts in more guises than I can remember and all were delicious.

Somehow there was also time for visits to some very cool (literally) underground Roman cisterns, the ornate local theatre, a cathedral, a vineyard (just in case we hadn't had the opportunity of a glass of wine for the previous 30 minutes) the local olive press, a cookery course and even a beach.

Casal dei Fichi is a great spot with fabulous views onto the rolling hills of the local countryside. Our hosts Bob and Ian treated us like old friends and ferried us around the winding roads of Le Marche from one fantastic experience to the next. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they are obviously passionate and knowledgeable about the place they call home.

All in all a fantastic experience that will unfortunately involve you going home at least 2kg heavier. You will also have experience the finest hospitality, accommodation, food, wine and scenery this lesser known area of Italy has to offer.

Wonderful surroundings and excellent facilities.

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing holiday at Ian and Bob's place. Wonderful surroundings and excellent facilities. But what really makes this place the best is the warm atmosphere that Bob and Ian spreads. They make you feel welcome from the minute you arrive. They always have time to help you with everything from what beach you should visit or where to go shopping groceries. They are truly friendly and great hosts. The kids loved to stay at the house, swim in the pool and play with the dogs. We are definitely returning and already looking forward to next summer.

A perfect relaxing vacation

  • 5 of 5

Casal dei Fichi makes for a superb holiday: it is a perfect place to stay in a magnificent landscape, with charming, knowledgeable hosts. Begin to imagine this ideal vacation by learning about the Marche region, a still relatively undiscovered part of Italy, with medieval hill towns every bit as attractive as Tuscany surrounded by working farms spread over rolling hills. Then, picture an original farmhouse quietly nestled among these hills, with extraordinary views in all directions, each of which is more than worthy of a postcard. That farmhouse has been creatively and beautifully restored by your hosts, Bob and Ian, and now features six comfortable apartments, each with its unique charms. To all of this, add the exceptional welcome of Bob and Ian who have found that special balance—sharing this amazing environment as well as their expertise about the region with their visitors, yet taking their cue from the guests and allowing them to engage and explore (or not) at their leisure. Should one wish to undertake excursions in the surrounding areas, the medieval hill towns feature historical elements that co-exist with the modern world in remarkable ways: stone buildings, stunning architecture, and narrow streets are as much a part of the lived reality of the residents here, as are the food, wine, and vibrant culture. These communities are proud of their heritage and of their local traditions. The Marche offers opportunities for an appreciation of working farms (olives, grapes, sunflowers, fruits of all kinds, and glorious vegetables), as well as a long coastline of resorts on the Adriatic where Italians themselves vacation. The food and wine of this region rivals other parts of Italy, with fresh fish and seafood from the Adriatic as a special treat. In this environment, Bob and Ian have created a very special oasis at Casal del Fichi. They have the gift of instantly making their guests feel like old friends who soon feel like they, too, belong to this special corner of the world.

“Fifth time back-still as good as ever”

  • 5 of 5

Casal dei Fichi took us by surprise when we first went six years ago and it never fails to disappoint even after our fifth visit. Superb location, unbelieveable views, almost self-sufficient living if you want it, long, languid agriturismo Sunday lunches with some lovely people and the best hosts on the planet. Don't take our word for it-just go.

Our holiday idyll that never fails to delight!

  • 5 of 5

We returned to the beautiful Casal dei fichi this summer and yet again enjoyed an extremely happy holiday, returning home relaxed and refreshed and looking forward to our next visit! Everything about this place is perfect - the stunning setting, the superbly equipped and very comfortable apartment, the gardens from which guests can pick fresh vegetables and herbs, the swimming pool area with its wonderful views and the friendly and super-helpful owners, Ian and Bob, for whom nothing is too much trouble. We combined our time relaxing 'at home' with visits to local villages, festivals, restaurants and a fabulous boat trip at the coast. The infamous 'Monday pizza night' at Casal dei fichi was, as always, a blast and gave us the opportunity to meet the other guests in an informal and fun way! As the evening progressed, the competition to produce the most creative pizza intensified and a lot of laughs were had by all. Yet again an amazing time in this idyllic place that has everything...not forgetting the adorable Jakes and Hattie! We couldn't wait to get back and made our reservation for June before we left! Ci vediamo presto!

This was our fourth visit to Casal dei fichi and certainly not our last, it is no coincidence that it is here we chose to have our wedding 5 years ago as the beautifully scenic panorama provided a wonderful backdrop for our special day and still continues to amaze me each time we return. The apartments are modern and spacious with a homely feel and are equipped with everything you need for your stay. The owners Bob and Ian are fantastic hosts and they soon make you feel at home. The Monday night pizza parties that they host are a great way of meeting the other guests and is a great excuse for drinking and eating lots. I defy anybody to not fall in love with Casal dei fichi, it truly is a little piece of heaven. Thank you Bob and Ian for letting us share your beautiful home xx

Perfect holiday in Le Marche

  • 5 of 5

We have returned here many times now and Casal Dei Fichi never fails to impress. The apartments are so well appointed and so well kitted out, they are extremely clean, comfortable and spacious.

Then there is the view, which is quite simply stunning.

What is unusual here for self catering apartments is that the owners, Bob and Ian, live on site and are on hand if you want some help, ideas or just a natter! Touches like the complimentary pizza party on a Monday night and the vegetable patch where you can pick some fresh salad for lunch really set this place apart.

The surrounding area is very beautiful with lovely hilltop towns, amazing restaurants and the coast not too far away.

For us a stay at Casal Dei Fichi is a perfect holiday.

Casal dei Fichi is one mile from the small walled medieval town of Francavilla d'Ete with a pizzaria/restaurant, bars, shops, bank and historic churches. Several renaissance walled towns are within 15 minutes drive, steeped in history and waiting to be explored. Each has great restaurants in which to while away a lazy afternoon with fantastic food and excellent local wine.

We are 30 mins from the Adriatic coast where beaches range from secluded coves to vibrant lidos with bars, restaurants and nightclubs. 30 Minutes in the other direction are the Sibillini mountains offering superb walking, mountain biking and scenery. Macerata, with its famous outdoor Opera festival, Fermo, Ascoli Piceno and Loreto are close by and the Umbrian gems of Assisi and Perugia are within 2 hours, as is Urbino.

Stunning views start on our doorstep and extend for miles and we will be very happy to help guide you to the local attractions and highlights of this unspoilt part of Italy.

In 2015 45% of our guests were returning to stay with us again, some for the 5th or 6th time. What they tell us is that they find 'their kind of holiday' with us - lots to see and do if you want it and also sometimes it's just nice to unwind and do very little. We try to find out what each of our guests is looking for and then we help them find it. Please take a look at our reviews on Tripadvisor for a feel of what previous guests have thought about us.
