The Best part of our Trip!

  • 5 of 5

Estrella is truly a gem for anyone who appreciates nature, a quiet beach, and peaceful surroundings. It was our first stop in Costa Rica, and after traveling to many other locations in the country, it was definitely most memorable for both location and the delightful and caring Hosts. Simon and Patricia made sure that we were well-informed of everything available in the area and made excellent recommendations.

We fell in love with the pictures and got more than we expected - a beautiful place to stay full of personal touches and incredible craftsmanship - a true work of art.

Most mornings we awoke to Howler monkeys and mountain chickens and would make the short walk to the beach to see the sunrise. Very often we were the only people on the beach. We would return from the beach, make coffee, cut up some fruit and spend an hour or more on the deck enjoying the breeze and the animals that came to visit.

The kitchen was perfect for cooking meals, making it easy to prepare the Mahi-mahi purchased from the local "fishman" . We would enjoy our dinner on the deck listening to the sounds of the jungle.

Patricia and Simon checked in on us and made sure we had everything we needed. It was a pleasure spending time chatting with them and hearing about their travel experiences. We felt like we were with old friends..

Our stay at Estrella was exceptional. We completely enjoyed all aspects of it and hope to return.

Beautiful and charming cottage

  • 5 of 5

My only regret is that my wife and I could only stay here for 3 nights.

Patricia and Simon were absolutely amazing hosts. The cottage is modern, aesthetic, and comfortable. A very warm and inviting place to hang out in paradise.

There is lots to do around the cottage: Hang out at the beach, visit local villages, fishing, horseback riding, hiking, ATVs, etc. It’s a very safe and laid back environment in which to relax.

I hope to return soon and spend more time here in the future. Thank you Patricia and Simon for the hospitality! We will always remember this trip.

A little slice of paradise! Lovely hosts!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for several days in March 2018. What an incredible place! As one of the other reviewers has said, the pictures do not do this place justice. Estrella is a gem of a casita, perfect for a couple or a single person. It is nestled in a beautiful jungle setting behind a secure gate about 300 yards away from beach and the main road between Cabuya and Montezuma. There is never any sound of traffic (except for the rare vehicle that uses the road outside the property) and even those cars are not unwelcome as they are usually followed by a call from the Howler Monkeys in the forest canopy on the property.

Wildlife on the property abounds. Along with the howler monkeys, we also saw lots of Capuchin monkeys as well as piezotes, agoutis, raccoons, iguanas and a good assortment of birds. About a km or so from the property is a freshwater lagoon that is a magnet for all sorts of birdlife. It is a must visit at least once early in the morning. (We went several times.)

The place is newly built and a joy to stay in. Admire the loving, intricate joinery of the logs on the deck built by Simon himself; savour the artistry and attention to detail in the wall sconces above the bed; the standing lamp between the adirondack chairs on the deck; the unique mirror frame in the bathroom, the wrought iron window grates each with a different pattern (the butterfly was our favourite) and the impeccable taste (and obvious love) that Simon and Patricia have put into this gem of a property. But above all, make sure to take the time to wind down and spend time on the deck watching and listening to the parade of wildlife just meters from you. We just loved having dinner on the deck after the sun had set, listening to the sounds of the surrounding jungle as it transitioned from day to nighttime.

On our arrival, we were warmly greeted by Patricia and Simon and instantly made to feel right at home. It is a mark of a good host when they can tell you clearly and unambiguously how they would like you to manage the day to day details of their property (which doors to lock and unlock, how to use the front gate, how to dispose of garbage and food scraps, how to contact them, how they would contact you etc etc, without at the same time making you feel like you were being given a regimented set of rules. Patricia and Simon got this balance just right with us. We were saved the discomfort of having to guess what we could and could not do without ever feeling anything but relaxed.

Beautiful, Comfortable, Serene!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived to the quaint village of Montezuma and on to Estrella lodge, only to be welcomed by Simon and Patricia and their beautiful property! We loved our stay at the Estrella lodge and would highly recommend for any persons looking for a place to retreat and feel like home!

It has everything you need and Simon and Patricia go out of their way to ensure your stay is comfortable, safe, and attended to. They live nearby, however, Estrella is very private and cozy. We rented a small car which worked fine for us to explore and head back and forth to Montezuma, beaches, etc.

This was our first time to Costa Rica and we were extremely grateful for the information we received from Patricia and Simon about things to do, places to eat, beaches, hikes, waterfalls, etc. Highlights of our trip included hiking the Playa Grande, snorkeling at Tortuga Island, and the Canopy Zip Line tour with Waterfalls. We enjoyed many restaurants, two of which can't be missed: Cococolores on the beach in Montezuma village and Tierra y Feugo (Italian) on Las Delicias connection, not far. There are neighboring villages that are fun to explore as well.

...but one of the most amazing aspects staying here is the beautiful on sight gardens that host the most amazing fruits and flowers, trees, and of course the capuchin and howler monkeys... the coati... agouti, hummingbirds and more.

We are so happy we found Estrella Lodge and hope to visit again one day. Patricia and Simon pour a lot of love and care into this home and it shows. We are very lucky to have met them and found this place!

Pura Vida

  • 5 of 5

Pura Vida ! My husband and I stayed at Estrella for 2weeks -what a great experience! Patricia and Simon are fabulous hosts, they made sure we are very well informed about the area and made excellent recommendations for restaurants , shops, hiking trails, beaches . Simon drow us maps (very helpful). Everything was in a short drive from Estrella ( waterfalls, horseback rides,Cabo Blanco - Natural Reserve, Curu- Wildlife Reserve , Mal Pais , Santa Teresa and much more ) Estrella is very testfully decorated . It is a heaven in the jungle. Surrounded by nature, howler monkeys ,coati, birds , peasants all the life in the jungle. The property was very clean, well maintained and had everything needed for a comfortable stay. Not to forget about the outside shower that my husband was using all the time. I don’t have enough words to express how thankful we are to Patricia and Simon for allowing us to stay at Estrella and share the jungle with us , Thank you so so much! 😘❤️

Incredible!!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Lodge Estrella for about a week during our wedding trip to Costa Rica. Even though the photographs of Lodge Estrella are wonderful, experiencing Lodge Estrella in person is even better! Everything about Lodge Estrella conveys peace, beauty, cleanliness, nature, and good taste! Honestly, if you love beautiful detail and abundant nature, you will LOVE Lodge Estrella! You will also love the hosts as they are friendly and helpful and they will do everything in their power to ensure that you have a lovely stay.

A few details about Lodge Estrella....the deck is so amazing! The custom made Adirondack chairs invite you to sit back and enjoy the many animals you will see while you sip your coffee in the morning or your wine in the evening. Or you can choose to sit in the very comfortable hammock. Or perhaps you will want to dine at the custom made table and chairs. You will live on the deck as you watch howler monkeys frolic above you in the tree tops. You may see agouti scamper about the grounds, mere yards away (they are cute and harmless!). Perhaps a coati will stop by or a family of adorable raccoons. We were also visited by a pair of magpie jays as well as many hummingbirds and butterflies. Be sure to get up early as the wildlife is more active in early hours.

The kitchen is well-appointed and very very clean. We had everything we needed! Great two burner electric stove top (new and efficient), microwave, and a large toaster oven. The dishes and utensils were lovely (clean and new).

The bedroom area is really nice! The mattress was comfy and it was great to be able to sleep with the windows open so that breezes could keep us comfortable. There is also a ceiling fan so we were comfortable and happy.

The bathroom is adorable with Mexican tile and a modern sink. The shower is beautiful and effective. I loved the polished cement walls. Look closely and you'll see a cute little heart embedded in the floor. So many details everywhere you look. It's obvious that Patricia and Simone put a lot of love into Lodge Estrella. There is also a great outdoor shower, perfect for when you come in from the nearby beach (Los Cedros). There is also a wash basin so you can hand-wash your clothes as well as a clothes line.

The grounds are beautifully landscaped! We were so happy to see so much wildlife. We also felt very safe and secure. Patricia and Simone live nearby but not so close that you feel crowded. All in all, we loved staying at Lodge Estrella. We had
