Very comfortable apt.

Beatrice was a great host. The apt. is beautiful. Back yard was a comfortable place to relax. The bathtub has Jacuzzi jets. Looking forward to my next trip to Brooklyn

P.S. Beatrice, thanks for the two slices of pizza.

Ideal location for vacation in and around Manhattan

  • 5 of 5

We would recommend this apartment as ideal. It had a well equipped kitchen to cater for yourself if you wanted. The bed was comfortable, the apartment was clean and spacious. It was an great retreat from a long day in Manhattan.

The metro was conveniently only 10 minute walk at most from the apartment you could easily get to Manhattan in 20 minutes on the metro. We enjoyed staying in Brooklyn because there was lots of attractions to visit such as the botanical garden, zoo, Brooklyn bridge all within very easy reach of the apartment. The supermarkets in Brooklyn were within walking distance of the apartment selling very tasty freshly made cakes and bread in the bakery and organic high quality foods.

Beatrice was helpful and on hand if you needed any help or advise to make your stay easier and more enjoyable.

Thanks

Nigel and Teresa

Terrific bargain - more than we needed! Easy access to parks, restaurants, and transportation!

  • 4 of 5

Beatrice maintains a lovely place, and if you have questions or need something, she is right there! She had lovely refreshments for us when we arrived. The bed was unbelievably comfortable. We enjoyed our stay and used the place as a base to really explore Manhattan and Brooklyn. Terrific all around!

A good base for Brooklyn

  • 4 of 5

We normally come to New York once or twice a year, but this trip was different as we were focused on Brooklyn, visiting family, instead of Manhattan. The best thing here is the location - less than a 15 minute walk to 2 separate subway lines that can take you into Brooklyn or the city. While this would not qualify as one of the showcase blocks of Brooklyn, its a friendly, diverse neighborhood, and we felt completely safe during our stay. Beatrice was efficient in answering our questions, but respected our privacy and left us alone. Only quibbles about the apartment are noisy radiators and furniture that was too big for the given space. Overall, recommended as a good base for Brooklyn, with good access to Manhattan.

It could have been...

  • 1 of 5

but it never happened. At first glance, the place is nice when you have a quick look. But closer it is a different story. The kitchen was nowhere near clean. Everything was dirty from the floor to inside the closets, where ants were well settled-in.

No table nor chairs (as mentioned in the ad and seen on the photos), to have the possibility to get some breakfast, lunch/dinner- so called breakfast was supposed to be offered by the owner but we only came to a fridge with an out of date opened milk bottle. The owner excused herself for that: no time at all this week to get anything for us. And never offered to make it up later.

No TV, even though the ad mentioned one. Not that it could seem important to have a TV, but since it was on the ad and we do like to relax watching tv by night...well, the owner told us it just broke a few days ago and she didn’t have the time to replace it. She did say, amused, that if we really wanted a tv she could have one in a few days.

However, looking closely, we couldn’t figure where this tv could have been put and plugged ...

At this point, we were not settled yet and just after an hour or so, we decided to leave the place. We were not comfortable at all. Especially because of the terrible lack of cleanliness and the way the owner didn’t seem to consider our legitimate demands ( no cleaning, no table and no chairs, no tv ).

When we told the owner we didn’t want to stay, she said ok, we could just leave if we were not happy with the place. She offered us a refund, and if we were to stay this first night - it was 7pm and we had a hard time finding a replacement lodging - she would still charge us 1 night. Which was fair.

We did finally find another place and decided to leave right away. So not even one night in this place.

And to our great - and not good -surprise, we were refunded just about half of the rental price. In a place we didn’t even stay more than 2 hours. We were supposed to stay 6 nights. We had paid a good amount of money. We were on vacation from Europe. So happy and excited to be visiting the Big Apple. And BAM, distress kicked in very hard.

Not only the owner charged us one night, but she also charged us the cleaning fees... how ironic when we had been the ones showing her the place, mainly the whole kitchen area, had not - nor ever ? - been cleaned!

It felt like a terrible joke to us.

Of course, Abritel/HomeAway did not help at all. These guys are here to get the money, period.
