Overview

About the property

5 bedrooms , 5 bathrooms. Separte 1 bedroom cottage. Pool, Wifi, outdoor dining.

It's impossible not to fall in love with the Slow life at "Ca' di Gosto". This beautiful five hundred year old honey-coloured stone farmhouse is set within wooded hills, with views of Umbria and Tuscany. Surrounded by five acres of ancient olive trees and grape vines which produce award-winning olive oil. The property has flowers everywhere, a pond, an organic vegetable garden, and contented hens wandering gently around the grounds laying the most delicious eggs. The house has been painstakingly restored over several years to maintain it's original character while adding contemporary luxury and comfort. Centuries-old stone and terracotta floors now have underfloor heating. The bathrooms are decorated with handmade Sicilian ceramic tiles while the baths and fixtures were brought from France and England.

The chestnut-beamed sitting room lies at its heart. With a huge fireplace, a rose-coloured sofa piled high with cushions, a coffee table laden with books and every inch of white wall hung with paintings, this and the large dining room are very inviting for house parties and entertaining. The true heart of the house is probably the kitchen. With two sofas, a large open fireplace and dining table you never have to go anywhere else, unless you want to eat outside "Al fresco", and sip wine next to the outdoor fireplace under a 400 year old Oak tree. You may want to lie under the shade of the olive trees or soak up the sun beside the 'Pebbletec' natural pool. With it's salt water filter the water is delightfully soft and un-chlorinated.

Chef, dinner, breakfast & cooking lessons available upon request.

About Jenny Nichols

Jenny Nichols is an English freelance chef. She was trained at the ‘Cordon Bleu Cooking Institute’ in London longer ago than she cares to remember (but back when "wonderful English cook" was still generally perceived to be an oxymoron) and for the last 35 years she has been cooking around the world mainly for private clients, specializing in Mediterranean cuisine, cakes and desserts. Jenny has been based in London, Los Angeles, and for the last twenty years in Italy, in Rome, Tuscany and Umbria. She has cooked for clients in many different countries. Her cooking reflects these international influences. Jenny’s two great passions are food and gardening. Her vegetable garden is as important to her as the stove. This love of watching her ingredients grow from seed to end up on the dining table, nurturing and loving them every step of the way makes Jenny a committed supporter of the Slow Food Movement and of the philosophy of taking care of our precious natural resources. An important and underlying principle of Jenny’s cooking is that nothing at all goes to waste.

Why Jenny Nichols chose Umbertide

Set among rolling hills and terraces of aged olive trees the house has been lovingly restored over the past several years. Ancient stone and old terra cotta tiles and wooden beams have been used throughout the house to keep it's original character as far as possible. The downstairs animal stalls have been converted into the kitchen, living and dining areas with flagstone floors and large fireplaces. "Il Porcile" the Old Pigsty is a self contained little house away from the main house and has a living room with a huge fireplace, a double bedroom, kithen and bathroom.

There is an outdoor fireplace and lounge are under the oak tree. There are five quite different double bedrooms (double or twin beds) each with it's own bathroom with shower and/or bath, and one with a log burning fireplace.
