Why Susan Annear chose Wendron

When we saw Halwin Lane Farm we instantly fell in love with it's location. Set down a private lane away from traffic it is the perfect place for our young family to grow up. Although in a quiet position we love that you can drive in any direction and be at local towns or leisure facilities within 10 to 20 minutes. We particularly enjoy walks and horse riding around the local area including Stithians Lake. There are also numerous cycle rotes which as the children are growing up enjoy a great deal. The people of Porkellis are particularly welcoming and the local pub is a warm and friendly place to visit and has now got the added bonus of them selling groceries and even running a small community library.

Perfect cottage for two

  • 5 of 5

Well equipped comfortable cottage, our hosts were welcoming, providing us with milk in the fridge and cornish biscuits and some lovely tasting free range eggs,.however we were left alone to enjoy our stay. The cottage was very central with lots to visit both in the country, and coast, and our little dog enjoyed it all. We would certainly recommend, and look forward to coming again.

Great host, nice place, very happy with this choice!!

  • 4 of 5

We spent 5 days at this cottage. Everything is perfect. Feels like home. Very friendly landlord. Very nice pub at walking distance. We had a great time and vacation.

Wifi connectivity not so great. Also phone service not so good in the area. If you are a weak hearted driver, mentally prepare yourself because the roads in the area are mostly for one car only and you cannot rely on the navigation systems or Google maps. What I did was that I customized my route on MyMaps Google then exported them as .kml file, converted .kml file to .gpx file and then loaded them on my TomTom. Then I had some peace of mind when driving. Once again don't rely solely on the navigation aids, a human touch is required.

Overall we had a perfect vacation and recommend this place to others. I am only giving 4 stars because of the roads. Otherwise it's 5 stars!!

Owner's Response: So glad you had a lovely stay with us. We can sort most problems but unfortunately widening the beautiful Cornish lanes is not one of them :)

Comfortable, quiet, well equipped, well placed for tourist attractions

  • 5 of 5

Cosy cottage, well equipped for our needs in a quiet location yet not too far away from the main attractions of Cornwall. Sue and Andy made us feel very welcome indeed, we hope to return in the near future.

Very enjoyable

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed ourselves but there are a few minor niggles, eg. could do with a brighter light in sitting room.

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure to welcome you. Regarding your comment on the living room light we will investigate that and perhaps put a standard light in there so visitors have the option of a brighter light or stick to the lower cosy light.

Porkellis is a small village surrounded by countryside, the village has a good pub serving food on most days and the same pub operates a local store for essentials such as bread and milk. Only a 10 minute drive away is Helston known as the gateway to the Lizard peninsula with its famous scenery and beaches. Helston itself is a small town full of history and of course famous for the Flora Dance held in May each year, you will find a good selection of supermarkets, local shops and other amenities such as a leisure centre and cinema.

Little Halwin is Ideally placed for touring either West Cornwall or head to central Cornwall where the Eden project is only a 60 minute drive away. Falmouth and its National Maritime Museum is only 20 minutes away. Slightly further away but still an easy drive are Penzance, Newlyn and Mousehole with their many art galleries. Lands End with its breathtaking scenery and Porthcurno where The Minack Theatre is situated are again all within easy reach. Water sports and fishing are also all available locally.
