Why Sue Annear chose Camborne, Redruth & Hayle

When we saw Halwin Lane Farm we instantly fell in love with it's location. Set down a private lane away from traffic it is the perfect place for our young family to grow up. Although in a quiet position we love that you can drive in any direction and be at local towns or leisure facilities within 10 to 20 minutes. We particularly enjoy walks and horse riding around the local area including Stithians Lake. There are also numerous cycle rotes which as the children are growing up enjoy a great deal. The people of Porkellis are particularly welcoming and the local pub is a warm and friendly place to visit and has now got the added bonus of them selling groceries and even running a small community library.

The property was clean and tidy. Situated in a quite village With a very good pub.

  • 3 of 5

The property was very well equipped. We had a very comfortable stay. The only thing which I feel could be improved is the small covered area. It needs some TLC, and the vine which is growing, needs to be trimmed,as it keeps the sun out. Also some outdoor chairs would be appreciated. The ones provided are not for relaxing in.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely review. We will look at chairs for outside. The grape vine will stay as it does give lovely fruit and much needed shade especially when we have weather like we are currently having. However a good trim after harvest might be in order. Hope to welcome you again soon.

Perfect Location for Exploring West Cornwall

  • 5 of 5

We spent a long weekend at the cottage. Friendly owners, cat and chickens. Lovely quiet location within easy walking distance of a great pub (The Star Inn). Everything a couple could need for a relaxing break. The only tiny criticism is that the bed is rather hard and could use a mattress topper - otherwise everything perfect, helped by the fact that we had gorgeous weather for our stay!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely review and it was a pleasure to have welcomed you. Sorry you found the bed a little hard, everyone likes a slightly different feel so as you suggest a topper might be a good idea so that another guest can remove it if they prefer a firmer mattress. Good suggestion, thank you.

Lovely Cottage - Great Location

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was very clean and welcoming. The fresh eggs were a lovely touch and the welcome biscuits and daffodils were lovely.

The only issue we had was the lack of cooking utensils and the utensils that were there needed replacing, that being said, we did get by

All in all a great holiday

Owner's Response: Thank you for the lovely review. As for the cooking utensils we will do a stock check on them as of course things do go missing or just wear out. We will replace as necessary.

It almost felt like home!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time in the cottage. Everything was as the descrition said, the place was very clean and also provided a lot of privacy. We travelled there as a couple in our early 30s, but the place is perfect for anybody who is ok with one bedroom upstairs and a living room/open kitchen downstairs. Sue and her family were very welcoming and provided us with all the information (and a great Cornish pasty) we needed to get set up for our stay. We would recommend the place to our friends/relatives any time. Helston is quite near (including a Tesco superstore) and the village is located perfectly for day trips to all the sites you want to visit in Cornwall.

All in all we can say that we were quite sad when we had to leave but are happy to come back one day!

'Little Halwin' - A little Cornish gem....

  • 5 of 5

My Wife, myself and our 3 year old boy recently stayed at this wonderful cosy little cottage and had a fantastic time. we were greeted by some beautiful flowers for my wife's birthday as well as a little welcome pack to help us settle in. A fantastic out of the way, quiet location, ideal for exploring Cornwall. The owners were really charming and very helpful, nothing seemed too much trouble. We ate several times in the local pub, The Star Inn, food was really good and again very hospitable people running the place, very child friendly too!, i would absolutely have no problems recommending anyone spending time at Little Halwin, it is perfect for young families (childrens books games and some toys available in the cottage), couples and even single people wanting to get away from it all. we are hoping to go back later this year, we had forgotten just how special Cornwall really is!, see you soon!

Porkellis is a small village surrounded by countryside, the village has a good pub serving food on most days and the same pub operates a local store for essentials such as bread and milk. Only a 10 minute drive away is Helston known as the gateway to the Lizard peninsula with its famous scenery and beaches. Helston itself is a small town full of history and of course famous for the Flora Dance held in May each year, you will find a good selection of supermarkets, local shops and other amenities such as a leisure centre and cinema.

Little Halwin is Ideally placed for touring either West Cornwall or head to central Cornwall where the Eden project is only a 60 minute drive away. Falmouth and its National Maritime Museum is only 20 minutes away. Slightly further away but still an easy drive are Penzance, Newlyn and Mousehole with their many art galleries. Lands End with its breathtaking scenery and Porthcurno where The Minack Theatre is situated are again all within easy reach. Water sports and fishing are also all available locally.
