A ground floor apartment in a large converted barn. Big fully fenced garden.
About Katherine Hick
The photo above is the first winter party held at the barn in 2010. The conversion wasn't completely finished but the beams were great places to hang the decorations! Originally from Yorkshire, I have worked in England, Spain, Africa and South East Asia as an artist and art teacher for about thirty years. In September 2017 I finally was able to move to France and enjoy the barn myself! I am resident on site at Katy's Barn. I have two dogs who came back from South East Asia with me They are called Beamish and Buzby. Recently a third dog, a Breton spaniel decided to move in as well. All three are good with other dogs but they chase cats.
Katherine Hick purchased this Barn in 2007
Why Katherine Hick chose Saint-Aulaye-Puymangou
During my first visit to the barn, walking around what was then an overgrown field, gusts of white butterflies rose from the long grass and the wild flowers and shafts of afternoon sun shone through the oaks and across the field. It made me feel joyful. I decided straight away that that was the place for me.
What makes this Barn unique
The countryside in this part of France is lovely and the barn is only a short trip to the river where there is a beach, swimming and a restaurant in the summer. The area is full of places to visit and the barn is centrally placed for day trips to the coast or to the prehistoric caves to the east.
No large parties or events.
No fierce guard dogs or biters!
A cot & high chair available.
A security deposit of 100 Euros is required upon arrival. The deposit will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage.

100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
Katy’s Barn is like a home from home. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were numerous repeat bookings.
It is very pretty with lots of beams. The is so much light and a fantastic feeling of space.
There’s a lovely garden; fenced in for dogs. The area is really lovely.
Katy is right nearby and very friendly and helpful. She very kindly did a bit of supermarket shopping for me before our arrival.
I consider myself to be a fussy customer but I would certainly stay again and recommend to anyone.
A beautiful barn in a quiet and secluded location but with nearby town
We spent a very happy three weeks at the barn. The accommodation was lovely, plenty big enough for the whole family and very comfortable. The garden was a delight, really safe for our two dogs who loved the space. The location is perfect for exploring; the two local towns of Chalais and Riberac are both lovely and have fantastic markets. You are also near enough to Angoulême, St Émilion and Bergerac for visits. The local restaurant is not to be missed. The local village has a great supermarket too. All in all it was just perfect and Katy was the most thoughtful, kind host. Thank you so much for a wonderful holiday.
Thanks for the lovely review. I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay and enjoyed the barn and the area.
A great place to stay
The property was spacious and well equipped. The photos didn't do it justice.
The Barn was in a quiet location but with plenty to do and explore within a short drive away.
Thank you for your review.
Fantastic barn conversion, great facilities, huge garden
We (6 adults in total) stayed here for 2 weeks in August 2017, the barn in an amazing conversion retaining all of the original beams and character - there so much space you'll never feel crowded and the garden must be almost an acre in size - just brilliant
Thank you very much for your kind review. I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay and loved the barn. I hope you can visit again for a future holiday.
Everything we could have wished for. Great property, great location.
All mod cons provided. And friendly hosts.
Thank you very much for your review. I am delighted you enjoyed your stay and that it was all you wished for.
A wonderful relaxing experience from start to finish.
We stayed 13 weeks in this lovely property and really enjoyed the ambience and very quiet surroundings. Thank you Mark, Jenny and Katy
Thank you very much for your review, i am pleased you enjoyed your stay. All the best in your new home.
Set in a scenic hamlet in the heart of the countryside, close to the beaches and cafés of St. Aulaye on the Dronne river. The large, well wooded and private garden has beautiful views and a restful atmosphere. It is within easy reach of the popular Market towns of Riberac, Chalais and Aubetere. Fishing, swimming, kayaking and riding are available near-by and it is an excellent area for rambling and cycling. The area provides plenty of opportunity for photography, painting and sketching or you may simply relax in the sun or in the shade of the oak wood in the corner of the property. This is a good base from which to explore the historic, culinary and cultural splendors of the region. Enjoy day-trips to St. Emillion, Bergerac, Perigueux and Salat-la-Caneda or to the coastal areas of Lacanau or Arcachon or visit the vineyards and taste the wine in the world famous Bordeaux and Cognac regions.
