Two downstairs bedrooms, one with a Full size Bed, another with two Twin Beds. Upstairs three Full beds and two Twin beds along with a half bathroom. Downstairs bathroom has a washer and dryer. There is a fully equipped kitchen with an outside L.P. gas grill. We have a charcoal grill and smoker available upon request. (Charcoal and wood chips not incl.) The sitting area has a real wood heating fireplace, and the dining area is located in the sun room overlooking the lake. A small breakfast table is available directly off the kitchen area. The front deck overlooks Jasper Lake; is 400 square feet in size with a large picnic table. An outside fire pit with benches is also available for guest to enjoy an evening campfire. An open air outside fish cleaning table is available as well. Three aluminum canoes with paddles, seat cushions, and life jackets come with the cabin for guest use.

I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stout with a degree in Hotel, Restaurant and Hospitality Management. In 2014, I completed a Master's degree in Sustainable Tourism Development from Arizona State University. My studies included internships with the Biltmore Estates in Asheville, North Carolina, The StockFarm Club in Hamilton, Montana and The Hotel Sofitel in Bloomington, Minnesota. I also studied Wine and Food Pairing at the Universitat de les illes Balears of Palma de Mallorca, Spain. In my free time I enjoy camping, fishing and hunting; some of my most treasured memories are from BWCA and Quetico canoe trips. Since moving back to my hometown of Ely, I have taken over the daily operations of my family's business, the Jasper Company, and am heavily involved in the Ely Chamber of Commerce and the Tourism Bureau as well as various other non-profits in our area.
Cindy Beans purchased this house in 1990
We've all heard of 'Location, Location, and Location', and how important that is in marketing. The Jasper Lake Guest House is situated within some of the very finest angling found in the state of Minnesota, and it does overlook the finest canoe area (BWCA/ Quetico) in the country. Day trip options abound with over three dozen area lakes easily accessible, plus countless more for extended trips.
I, along with my family have relentlessly pursued my father's original dream and have since added various packages to their business ventures such as outfitting, equipment rental, and high quality lodging.
Early on in his guide years, my father, Don recalls an old man approaching him one morning on a busy resort dock. The old timer eyed his as he readied a 19 square stern guide canoe for a day trip into Canada; and he commenced some small talk. Don learned that he was once a guide; a woodsman from yesteryear; and Don remember well his advice given, 'It's best to keep your guests warm and dry, keep them full of expectations, provide good honest advice, and make sure they are well fed. That's your only job. These woods and the waters will do the rest, ...the area will sell itself.'
That was ,,,and still is good advice.
When you're here, you'll find that this area is not just about the superb angling; but that it's really all about itself- the Northwoods. And it is impressive- the scenic views, the wildlife sightings, and it's about that relaxing feeling of experiencing pure remoteness. Jasper Lake shares in that feeling, it is a small quiet lake, a blue gem in the pine woods. Don and Joan raised their family here; they garden and grow vegetables here, they've raised chickens, enjoyed the companionship of several dogs, they hunt and fish the woods that surround them, they hike, ski and snowshoe the winter woods; and they literally built their home and lifestyle from the forests. They thoroughly enjoy the Northwoods life here and now they want to share it with you through their handcrafted Jasper Lake Guest House.
We had a family gathering there. Grandma, three adult sibling, two spouses, and five children. There was plenty of space. Laundry machines are nice to have and 2+ bathrooms are convenient. Don and Cindy were helpful and easy to work with. The canoes and equipment were in great shape. The guesthouse is a little walk and a steepish hill away from the water. Good grill. Complete kitchen. Outdoor fire ring had two benches. Amazing wildflowers out kitchen window.
Our group felt right at home in this well laid out and well made cabin. Don was very friendly and accommodating.
Stopping at the Jasper bakery/coffee shop in town was well worth it also. The muffins were great!
My family of 4 all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Jasper Lake Guest House. The house is beautifully crafted and very spacious providing great views of Jasper Lake. Since there are no roads close by it was great to only hear the peaceful sounds of nature. The owner Don Beans was a gracious host for the week. My son and I hired Don as a guide to canoe and fish the BWCA for a day which was awesome. The shore lunch including our freshly caught walleyes is something my son and I will cherish. Highly recommended!
We were looking for a place for family to join us for a 50th birthday fishing get-away in the north woods and the Jasper guest house was perfect for us. We had 10 members of our extended family stay and had a wonderful time. Some of us did a guided trip and also other fishing trips on Jasper, Moose and Wind lake.We all caught fish and had smiles on all our faces from the fun we had. Don's shore lunch was awesome and he always had great advice on where to go and what to use for fishing tackle. The whole Jasper Co. was helpful and accommodating with any of our needs. For the ones who didn't fish there were trips to town and sightseeing in the area.
The cabin was perfect for us with the many beds and rooms for the members of 5 different family's who shared the cabin. The large kitchen was nice for the spread of food we had for the shared meals. The sunsets were awesome looking out from the deck to the lake. We hope this was the first of many visits to Jasper lake.
Our family enjoys vacationing with several family members and their children. The guest house was perfect for our needs! Plenty of room for 12 of us! We enjoyed fishing, kayaking, campfires, museums, and shopping. The wrap around deck had a beautiful view of the lake! Don and his wife were the perfect hosts! We look forward to our family time together and Don made our week here perfect! We will definitely be back!

What a wonderful way to spend a long weekend! From the moment we were picked by Don and taken to the Guest House, your mood elevates and you begin to relax. The accommodations at the Guest House are exceptional - clean and well-furnished with noticeable details. And, a washer and dryer!! Once you step out onto the deck to enjoy that first evening glass of wine, it becomes apparent that you are in the north woods. It is so peaceful, tranquil, and quiet, and the scenery overlooking the lake is spectacular. Every morning we were up and ready to face a full day of fishing - not, however, without first enjoying one of the bakery's delicious muffins supplied to us every morning. After several 'catches' it was time to pull up to a campsite and set up for the shore lunch. Obviously, the fish couldn't be any fresher, but Don's preparation of all that went with the fish was absolutely delicious all the way through - you guessed it - wonderful desserts from the bakery. We fished the rest of every afternoon with very full bellies!
I would highly recommend staying at the Jasper Lake Guest House any chance you get. Don is an experienced fisherman with a great knowledge of the area. And just a really nice guy. We'll be back!
Our Guest House is located on the very edge of the BWCA Wilderness. It is fully equipped and our staff will do their best to provide all the little things that will make your vacation memorable.
It is very easy to access by vehicle, but looking north from the large front deck; the next road is 80 miles away, that's Canada's Highway 11, just miles of Northwoods and gorgeous views of Jasper Lake.
Using this as your base, there are over 36 easily accessible water bodies where you can enjoy superb fishing, great canoeing, and fun exploring ... in just a day trip. Many other pristine clear water lakes are available in the wilderness area where guests can paddle their canoe and/ or choose to go camping. So many outdoor adventure options to choose from, like testing your physical skills and take a 'Paddle Power Trip' for a day trip. You'll also enjoy swimming in these pristine lakes, and find many nearby US Forest Service maintained hiking trails, and great bicycling routes. This area is also one of the finest in the entire country for bird watching.
Ely is a winter wonderland too. The town officially rings in the 'Winter Season' on Thanksgiving night. All the shops open their doors and turn on their Christmas lights- welcoming visitors and the Christmas season. The lakes soon begin to freeze over and the forests get cloaked in a blanket of snow as Old Man Winter pushes Jack Frost southward.
Well groomed snowmobile trails crisscross northern Minnesota, from Minneapolis and Grand Rapids, with Ely as a major hub along the way. Come and visit, and you'll find that snowmobiles become the preferred choice of travel with many locals.
Like to Cross Country Ski? Both well groomed trails and back country skiing are available. Ely does have ski shops and winter apparel stores. Don't overlook the quality snowshoeing either.
Once we're in Winter's grip, Ely quickly becomes Dog Sled Capital, USA. These are fun filled trips - either by the day or overnight camping. There are several quality winter dog sled businesses ready to take you on this must do adventure.
How about icefishing? You'll have hundreds of lakes to auger holes and search for crappies, bluegills, yellow perch, walleyes, northern pike and lake trout. Local guides, eager and willing, are available along with comfy ice house rentals.
There are a few year round naturalists in the Ely area that would enjoy taking you out on a nature hike, a paddle, or a drive to show you Northwoods sights and wildlife. Many of these educational outings can be arranged as a half day or full day ventures.
Jasper Company can help you arrange these informative trips. Some offer photography ideas and classes.
During the ice free months, Ely is coined 'Canoetown, USA'; but Ely is also a wonderful, quaint small town with a grand reputation for the arts. Museums, studios and galleries abound and arts and craft stores are found everywhere. Just find a place to park your car and start walkin. Ely isn't big in size, just big in things to do! On any summer Tuesday night, the air is serenaded by the sound of 'Ely's Tuesday Night Live'; as local musicians take to the sidewalks and perform their talents. There is also a Farmers Market at Whiteside Park, where you can purchase fresh locally grown produce. There are also many local plays that perform regularly. When you're hungry, there's no shortage of great places to dine; from breakfasts to lunches to dinners; and a few bakeries and coffee shops to quench that sweet tooth and Java fix in between. You'll find local pubs and even a microbrewery where you can enjoy a cold one, visit with friends, or catch that ball game on the tube.
Have a Bucket List? - visit the International Wolf Center, the North American Bear Center, the Dorothy Molter Museum, the Soudan Underground Mine, Bois Forte Heritage Center and Cultural Museum, Ely Arts and Heritage Center, Sisu Heritage Homestead Tours, etc...
Gambling? You bet! Consider a fun evening at the Fortune Bay Casino located just 22 miles south of Ely on beautiful Lake Vermilion. Enjoy great food, lots of drinks, and the scent of money in the air.
Golf? ...bring your clubs. There are plenty of courses within 80 miles of our guest house. Check out WildNorthGolf on the internet.
Autumn Fishing? Numerous lakes abound with gamefish and tempt you to try your luck. With a bucket of minnows, slip bobbers and jigs; you can explore local waters for superb smallmouth bass angling, tangle with huge northern pike, stringer great tasting walleyes and scrappy black crappies.
Upland Hunting? NE Minnesota was rated #1 nationally for 2014 ruffed grouse drumming counts. We're experiencing an upswing in the cyclic grouse population. Bring your dogs and try your wingshooting skills within the thousands of acres of public lands surrounding our two guest houses. There's trails, logging roads and clearcuts, and beaver slough edges that abound in beaked hazel, alders, young aspen, wild rose and balsam thickets
