Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday barn in Amandola - Sibillini Lodge

Architect's restored haybarn, sleeps 1 couple, stylish renovation

Heating is included in the price - no bills to pay for expensive gas as this is an ecological house. The Hay barn is located on a quiet country lane which was the first Roman road towards Sarnano, and the 400 year old building is private but not isolated. It has it's own entrance, two patios and it's own large garden with pomegranates, figs and grapes nestled in the green foothills of the Sibillini Mountains with some of the best views on offer. The cottage has a glass wall facing the panorama and can be used as an artist's studio. There is underfloor heating run by a wood burning stove, and solar panels for hot water. The sauna is made of high quality wood and is an delight to use. We service the cottage ourselves. The historic town of Sarnano is less than five minutes drive away offering a range of services. The accommodation is open plan, and has large living room, piano, fully equipped kitchen, out door dining.

Details of Living room and grounds: The living room centres around the wall of glass facing the mountains and the fireplace. There is a large leather sofa, a pony-skin vintage chair, piano, book cases and artwork. Overall there is a uniqueness about this home as it is an architect's house, many things are hand made, and there is also a piano for those with musical interests.

The property has 12 acres of fields and woodlands and there are fantastic and easy walks right outside the cottage. Two of the oldest and very beautiful churches are a few minutes walk away. The landscape and views are glorious in every direction. Also, this is a perfect base for those who like to hike as the mountains are on your doorstep. The private grounds of the hay barn are large with pomegranates, flowers, some grapes, some figs and olives. There is outdoor dining.

Extra Activities: - Guests are offered the opportunity to do landscape painting, in the mountains (full day) or even from inside the hay barn (half day) which has been designed with a glass wall to give the experience of painting outdoors with the comfort of being inside. It is useful to book painting experiences in advance.

- We are involved in cooking holidays, and Slow Food, so there is a possibility to organize a range of experiences to suit guests' interests.

- Guides are available for hiking and/or for historic tours .

- All the nearby hill towns have markets each week, and most have theatres, museums, and cinemas. One of these hill towns was twice voted 'The Most Beautiful Town In Italy'.

- Macerata's open air opera is an hour's drive away.

-There are four archaeological sites, one of which is the most famous in central Italy, and is a 20 min drive away.

-The capital city of Ascoli is half an hour by car and Fermo is an hour away.

Beach: 45 min away are several different types of beaches: there is a nature beach, a secluded/quiet beach with a lovely beach club that has an outstanding restaurant, and there are a number of crowded, fashionable beaches where the shopping is good, with a huge choice of restaurants and entertainment. Evening events start late, and carry on the whole night long. The fish restaurants are of a high standard and some are positioned right on the water's edge.

More information about what to do in the area, with photos, can be found on our longer visits web site - please ask for the address.

Wundervolles Haus mit Bergblick

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful house, superb location

  • 5 of 5

By surching for a nice location in Le Marche, close to the mountains, we come acrosse this property. This kind of barnconversation is something you don't see very often in Italy. We loved it. The big windows give a wonderful view. You don't have to get out of the house to be a part of the landscape and it gives you the feelings you're allways outdoors.

Tamara is a wonderful host and a very nivce person. She is there whenever you need something. At the same time she gives you all the privacy you want.

The property is a good location for exploring the mountains (Monti Sibillini), all the nice little towns and the rural landscape.

Suggestions: 1. wild flowers in Spring in the mountains; 2. Piano Grande (all seasons), 3. buy some of the lovely soaps Tamara makes herself, and your holiday mood will stay with you even longer...

A beautiful house, well equiped kitchen, astonishing view. The house/barn has been restored with a lot of taste, beautiful floors, nice furniture. The pictures certainly don't ly. But above all there is a friendly atmosphere, also because of Tamara, the 'landlady'. She can give you advice about almost everything: nice restautants, art and musea, nice spots to go to and walking tracks. And you should try her selfmade soaps! The area is beautiful and still unspoiled. Remote little villages, mountains and within an hour distance the sea. What do you need more? We also visited several small local musea, which were opened at the spot just for us. We had a lovely time and will certainly come back.

Wonderful honeymoon break at the Hayloft

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the hayloft for 10 days in early April 2011 to celebrate our honeymoon, having looked for a peaceful haven with amazing views... and were not disappointed with our choice! Tamara gave us very helpful directions from Perugia airport, and the property was easy to find with the map we had purchased in the UK (roughly 2 hours drive from Perugia). We were delighted with the place, as it is entirely self contained and has it's own patio area directly overlooking the valley and the mountains in the distance. The pictures on the site do not truly do the property justice, and the views from the barn were simply breathtaking. we awoke every day to a different view of the mountains, snow caps, sunrise, and it was just awe inspiring. We had morning visits from Tamara's dog and 2 cats which was a delight as they were really friendly, and made the place feel much more like a home from home. A car is a must in this region, although it was possible to walk to the local village (we chose not to). There are amazing places to visit in Le Marche, and Tamara was very knowledgeable in helping us plan our itinerary - a day out in the Sibilini mountain national park, a train trip to Rome, San Benedetto del Tronto (by the sea), Ascoli Piceno (amazing town square), the nearby Sarnano, Tolentino (wonderful fresco's and architecture), the Saturday morning market in Communanza... but topped off by our incredible lunch at a restaurant in Smerillo with two tables with panoramic views - and gorgeous home cooked food. (a 3 course meal for two, with a small caraffe of wine.... 44 Euros... Bargain!!). We had a truly lovely break, and felt completely rested and relaxed in the property, so much so that we were saddened to have to leave. Tamara was a lovely host, and we would definitely recommend the Hayloft to others. Enjoy! Marie and Mike

Pleasures of unspoiled Marche

  • 5 of 5

A comfortable, lovely place to stay whether as a base for exploring the joys of the area or just to relax at home. This makes it ideal for all seasons and we certainly hope to return. The house is full of light, is well furnished, has character and is well maintained. It has glorious views and all one needs, including privacy. The owner is delightful and very helpful and knowledgeable. Highlights were eating out in Smerillo, the wonderful flower filled alpine meadows, lakes and endless possibilities for walking. Cultural riches are for next time.

Perfect accommodation, wonderful lay and region

  • 5 of 5

The pictures on the Website seem to beautiful to be true - but it is indeed, in reality maybe even more.

*The house*

_furnishing: Perfectly designed for two people (even two beach chairs!). Just note that you do have to buy spices, oil/vinegar etc if you want to cook.

_lay: The "Hay Barn" is located at a hill close to the "town" Amandola. It is very quiet and surrounded by the very own garden you can enjoy your privacy. Except for the weekends when the italian boys are driving their motorcycles up and down the curvy roads...

_Inside: It's very clean and modernly furnished. The combination of modern furniture and nature wood and stone walls create a really cosy atmosphere.

As seen in the pictures, there are tall windows on the backside of the house. Thus you can enjoy the amazing view over the Sibillini from either the big couch on the top floor or the garden/terrace.

On cool rainy days we simply used the private sauna to relax - wonderful!

*The region*

_Hiking: The Sibillini truly are a mountain paradise! You can flee society and civilization on various hiking routes (from short to long, simple to hard) and reward yourself with stunning views over Le Marche or lonely tree-covered valleys. The Lago di Fiastra (turquois water!) is a great swimming alternative to the sea (to Adria about 50min) - the lake is a must!

_Culture: There are multiple festivals in this region (truffles, philosophy etc); just inform yourselves in advance. Of course the little towns themselves are worth seeing; architecture, museums and sights can surely satisfy culturati.

_food: There are some great restaurants and bars worth trying. Inform yourselves about closing days and opening times, as many open for lunch and then late in the evening again (7/8pm).

*In general*

_The landlady is incredibly friendly and always has good advice at hand. Do look inside the "guest's wisdom" book as you can find interesting tips and reviews there, too.

We highly recommend the hay barn! Thanks to the landlady for providing us with the lovely location and tips.

This area offers some of the best hiking in Europe and is part of Europe's largest 'green zone'. Nearby villages offer a range of services and cultural events. Many of the most beautiful hill towns in Le Marche are within a half hour drive and all have museums and theatres, as well as an abundance of local seasonal festivals. One of the hill towns, ten minutes away, was voted 'the most beautiful town in Italy' twice. Macerata's open air opera is an hour's drive away. There are four archaeological sites, one of which is the most famous in central Italy and is a 20 minutes drive away. The capital city of Ascoli is half an hour by car and Fermo is an hour away. There are many restaurants which are near and offer lower prices than other parts of Italy. This is a centre for truffles and there is much to please the food lover. Skiing and beach are close to hand so there is much to do in all seasons.

Other Activities: rafting, hand gliding, wine tasting, beautiful hill towns to visit

Ski: The nearest skiing is in the local town of Sarnano, and there are a range of pistes. All equipment can be rented. It is considered good 'family' skiing, and restaurants abound.

For those who want something adventurous there is Telemark skiing, off piste, but guests will need to bring their own equipment. We can provide a qualified Telemark guide. Generally it would be helpful to book this service at least a few weeks in advance.

Within an hours' drive there are two other ski resorts. There is also a cross country ski centre in the mountains.

All levels of skiing from beginner, to the most advanced, can be found here.
