About Louise Allen

We are an Anglo/Italian family with 2 children living in London, UK. The property was bought as a holiday home for the extended family living in Rome and London. We are particularly fond of the warm climate, beautiful coast line and countryside, and the fine food and wines of Puglia.

Louise Allen purchased this apartment in 2005

Why Louise Allen chose Centro Storico

This property was bought as a holiday home for our Anglo/Italian family living in London and Rome. The older generation are from Monopoli and learnt to swim in the local coves. This particular property has proven to be a 'real find' because of the lateral space it provides and the central location, so close to the sea. The large roof terrace is perfect for outdoor dining in the evenings and observing the typical Italian 'passegiata' Although a car is useful to explore further afield, there is enough on the doorstep to enjoy the delights of Puglia.

Please note that free parking is available is available in the port car park 200 metres from the apartment. Only residents are allowed to park in the centro storico but you may drive through for unloading if necessary.

What makes this apartment unique

It is wonderful to be in the heart of the historic centre of a typical Puglian town with so many restaurants serving authentic Italian cuisine. The active fishing port and blue flag beaches are walking distance whilst within half hour drive are many historic Puglian towns including Alberobello famous for its 'trulli',

central location with absolute charm

  • 5 of 5

I was in this apt for one month and absolutely loved the kitchen, the terrace, the bedrooms, the high ceilings and of course the central location in the old town.

One thing that must be considered when renting is that the apt is on the second floor of a very old building with old steps that are quite a job if you are a senior! I am a senior and my friends too and we were often complaining about the work of going up to my place. BUT as an architect friend says - "if you don't have many steps to climb, you probably won't have a beautiful terrace to enjoy!"

Beautiful apartment. Grand in scale and tastefully decorated.

  • 4 of 5

The apartment is very large and very well equipped. It is located in the heart of old Monopoli. We stayed - two couples for a week in October. We really enjoyed being part of the local street life - a bit of noise from the street in the main bedroom at night but always stops before midnight.

There is a huge outdoor roof terrace that overlooks the roof tops. You can count the church steeples from here while you eat breakfast.

The kitchen is very well equipped and the wifi works well. We also made good use of the washing machine and dish washer.

The place is recently renovated but has a wonderful old world aristocratic charm.

There are 3 flights of stairs from the street but 4 or even 5 is the norm here.

The communication with Louise went very well and we were met in the square by her friend Angela. She was very friendly and helpful.

Overall we really enjoyed our visit to Monopoli and would absolutely recommend Louise's apartment!

absolutely fantastic

  • 5 of 5

From the first contact with Louise until departure, everything was perfect.

The apartment was exactly as described, the location wonderful in the centro storico in Monopoli, everything was clean and the apartment was well equipped.

What we really appreciated were the beach towels, sun chairs and sun umbrellas for the beach so you do not have to rent in the Lido for a lot of money.

Also washing machine and laundry rack on the terrace were perfect for us and the children.

The contact person, Angela, was very friendly and helpful. Meeting at the meeting point and the receiving of the key was uncomplicated although our flight dates had changed.

Louise provided lots of information before the trip so we already knew where there is a good bakery, which restaurant serves which food, where are lovely beaches and so on.

For us it was the nicest apartment we had so far for our vacation and the booking was best organized. So many information are really helpful and we almost tried all in the two weeks of our vacation.

Thank you very much Louise and saluti de Germania

Fabulous holiday in an authentic Italian fishing port

  • 5 of 5

5 * accommodation which exceded all our expectations.

Monopoli is a gem. We loved getting lost in the maize of streets, swimming in the crystal clear sea and eating the most amazing food. Everyday we discovered a new church, cove, and restuarant. Can't wait to come back

Property is immaculate

Very much liked Monopoli as it is less touristy than say Polgnano. Very glad we didn't rent a car and went everywhere with an excellent train system or the occasional taxi. Restaurants are really good.

Monopoli is a vibrant fishing port. The old town with its castle, cathedral and churches offers a treasure trove of typical Puglian architectural styles, where the locals still far outnumber the tourists. Its local restaurants serve the gastronomic delights that Puglia is famous for; all within a 2 km promontory surrounded by crystal clear, bright blue sea. Monopoli's coastline is rugged with numerous rocky coves and small sandy bays whilst the long sandy beaches of Capitolo with its chic lidos are just a 15-min drive. A short trip through Puglia's olive groves dotted with 'trulli' leads to Alberobello, Cisternino, Lororotondo, Ostuni and the famous Castellana caves. Bari and Brinidisi are within an hour's drive and Lecce, 'capital of baroque', Matera with its renowned sassi, Trani, the 'pearl of Puglia', Grotaglie famous for ceramics and Castel del Monte are just over an hour away. The 18-hole San Domenico golf course and Fasano safari park are only 20 mins by car.
