The impressive Casa Serena is sympathetically restored, retaining a wealth of original features; it is a rustic, traditional, spacious and inviting 4/5 bedroom Marchigianan farmhouse with an adjoining one bedroom self contained apartment. Set in 5 acres of beautiful private grounds boasting a vineyard, a walnut grove and numerous fruit trees. French doors open onto terracing which encircle the house and border the landscaped gardens and pool terrace. The extensive lawn merges with a meadow that stretches to the vineyard and beyond to the Saline river at the foot of the valley, perfect for country walks and spotting the local wildlife. The brand new swimming pool has stunning glass mosaic tiles and is for the exclusive use of our guests only and boasts enchanting views along the valley and a classic Italian vista composing white road and cypress encircled distant hillside villa, the tranquillity and privacy create the perfect environment for a relaxing, sun soaking holiday.
The surrounding area: Nestling in the charming Saline Valley Nature Reserve, Casa Serena is the perfect base for country walks and spotting the local wildlife including roe deer, pine martens, porcupines, buzzards and the very rare golden oriole. One of Penna San Giovanni's best restaurants is a pleasant 15 minutes walk from the house. Penna San Giovanni, has two grocery stores (Coal on the main street is run by Luciana and Mauro who speak a little English), two bars/cafes (one with a pizzeria in the basement serving the best pizzas for miles), several restaurants in the vicinity, an open air bar and pizzeria which operates in June, July and August and is situated above the lovely children’s playground, a bakery, a butcher, a pharmacy, a tobacconist (run by Umberto and Paolo who speak excellent English), a doctor's surgery, a hairdresser, a barber and a petrol station (sometimes run by Monia and Luca who both speak some English).
Child friendly: Casa Serena is suitable for children though younger children should be supervised at all times as the gardens and pool are open areas. Casa Serena is fully equipped for babies and toddlers, we have 2 cots, cot linen, baby monitor, night light, high chair, steriliser, changing mat, potty, toilet seat, plastic step, bouncy chair, play mat, toys and books, car-seats, pram with carry-cot and seat, plastic cups, plates and cutlery.
The owner and website: A small self contained apartment adjoins the main house and is occupied by the owner Jenny, who can be discreetly at hand if required to ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible, as well as regularly cleaning the pool and (very early morning) watering of plants and garden.
Please see our website for further details and photos;
Thanks Jenny and Anna for all the information before and during the holiday.
Everything was perfect - we loved the surrounding countryside, beach, Lake Fiastra, the food, the people, the supermarket in Penna!
The house and pool are perfect, we shall miss it very much.
All the best and lovely to meet you and thanks so much for your care and personal guidance whilst we were here!!!
we had a fabulous one week family hoilday. Jenny was na amazing host- nothing was too much trouble - from booking retaurant to searching for bike hire ,tennis courts, best beaches , mass times in local church etc! The house was superb. huge amount of space , very comfortable, all mod cons- more than we have at home! The welocme pack of food ( pasta , bread, Tomatoes , wine , fat juicy lemons etc) kept us very happy for the first day!
The pool was lovely and clean, garden immaculate and beautifully looked after, lavendar growing around pool , fields to walk over .
A car is needed - cannot really go anywhere without it. Nearest village Penna SanGiovani 10- 15 mins away - everything else really 45 mins - Leke Fiastra was the best- fantastic swimming, beach too crowded. tennis court down the road. villages so pretty! Sibellini mountains , gorge walk amazing .. so much to do!
Fantastic for all ages!
Thanks Jenny and Anna!
Casa Serena is simply that, a quiet location, and a beautiful, comfortable home in a serene setting. Our extended family stayed here for 10 days, and loved it. The house is very well maintained and in perfect condition, while being historic and beautiful.
In May the temperatures were in the 60's. Very comfortable for breakfast on the patio in the morning and sitting by the pool in the late afternoon. Back roads were quiet and the hill towns were full of gorgeous piazzas, churches and art. The Marche is really undiscovered, and beautiful. Local people were happy to see us, and to help us learn about their area.
Our host, Jenny, was so friendly and helpful. She is a delight.
We would highly recommend this rental for families.
Voiture absolument indispensable. Je recommande vivement !
Casa Serena is a fantastic, beautiful house in a very quiet and natural environment. Jenny and David gave us a warm welcome! The house is very well equipped and clean. We loved the pizzeria in Penna San Giovanni, simple and honest Italian food with very friendly owners/staff.
If you like a quiet holiday in a beautifull setting, Casa Serena is the right address!
You have no neighbours! We loved our stay!
Casa Serena is nestled below the beautiful medieval village of Penna San Giovanni which is half way between the wonderful beaches of the Adriatic coast and the stunning Sibillini Mountains. The small city of Macerata is 30 mins away and houses one of the oldest universities in Italy, with a world famous opera festival during the summer. Also 30 mins away, towards the coast, is the charming city of Fermo, mentioned in Machiavelli's 'The Prince', with its atmospheric piazza and catacombs.
Other Activities: Climbing, country walks, bird watching, tours to local vineyards
