A pleasant stay!
Our two families - 9 people total enjoyed this property for Christmas and New Years. The house location and size were perfect for our needs. It is fully stocked with everything one would need. Owner Aliene extremely prompt to reply to our questions, and very accommodating. Great value for Hawaii. Ko'Olina Lagoons are beautiful and perfect for families, though one of our kids stepped on a sea urchin on day one. The house is in a decent neighbourhood, and well kept. Close to gas, groceries, restaurants, coffee, etc. Upon arrival a couple of things noted but otherwise, fine. Would recommend this home for sure to others. It is close to beaches, Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, Waikiki. Wishes would be for better outdoor space on the enclosed patio as the furniture is dated and uncomfortable. We had a wonderful time on the beautiful island of O'ahu.
Nice home in a quiet neighborhood
Home is in a residential area close to Costco, Safeway, restaurants and the interstate. The larger beds were very comfortable, the house was clean and the bunk beds were nice for the kids. Big dining table and good sized living room. Good home to come back to after activities, only 25 min. to Honolulu. Ko'Olina beach lagoons nearby were very nice, perfect swimming for younger kids and the parking pass makes it easy. There is a closet in the garage full of inflatables, life jackets, chairs, etc that was very nice.
While we enjoyed our stay, we had MULTIPLE convenience issues. The owner was very prompt at responding but it was a pain. The AC wasn't working when we first got there so the house was really hot for a day until fixed (the upstairs was hot!), we tried grilling the first night and the propane ran out (I don't understand why a second tank wasn't readily available), 2 fans didn't work, and then the fridge and freezer started going out. We cooked every dinner at the home so having that working was important. The owner got a new replacement but delivery was late, we had to set up the water line ourselves and overall, these are things you don't want to have to deal with while on vacation. At all. The house needs some things maintained and a little freshening up. We enjoyed our stay but not all the problems.
These challenges were a first for us as this has never happened while we had a guest. We are super hosts on other sites and pride ourselves in taking great care of our guests. I had a service man out to check the fridge then immediately ordered a new refrigerator/ Freezer when the guest told me it wast freezing the ice cream very well. I paid to have the property manager waiting for the delivery to make certain it was installed and so that the property manager could transfer everything from the existing refrigerator and freezer so the guests would not have to deal with that. The property manager waited most of the day for the delivery and was told by the delivery folks that everything was ok she could leave - but then the delivery person did not hook up the water line as they were paid to do, It was extremely unfortunate and lesson learned was never order an appliance to be delivered by Home Depot in Hawaii!
I felt very bad about the inconvenience and I refunded this guest for one night and offered them two free nights on their next trip as they travel quite a bit. I spent hours on the phone tracking the fridge delivery and had our property manager standing by and waiting to accept the delivery to minimize their involvement. We also got an A/C person out right away to get the A/C charged. On the Makakilo hill, it will generally be very cool at night with the windows open, but we had someone come and recharge first thing in the morning. It turns out the fan was working but should have had better instructions on how to turn on the fan. We are going to change that fan to one with a remote control. We have already replaced another fan
We are very sad about the inconveniences they experienced.and worked really hard to make things right along with a one night refund and a two night credit on a future stay. And I agree with the guest - not stuff you want to deal with on a vacation, but they were extremely gracious and kind
It was more than spacious enough for eight (8) people! It was close in proximity to the stores, beaches, and restaurants! It was certainly quieter than Waikiki and substantially less expensive!
We enjoyed being able to use Aliene's home during our week on Oahu. Aliene was super fun and easy to work with on our reservation and special considerations. The location in Makakilo provided beautiful views of the valley below from the top of the mountain. The accessible beach toys, cooler and access card to KoOlina made having lunch at the beach extra special for our children. We enjoyed having a barbecue grill for a few meals during our stay, too. This is a great home on the west side of the island.
Our stay here was AMAZING! Aliene was available and quick at replying to our questions. Definitely everything that was described in the home was as described. The local recommendation for attractions was point on. Access to the lagoon was great. Highly recommend staying here again.
