3-2 home on the lake, gorgeous views from nearly every room.
About Bob Gilbert
Bob Gilbert grew up on this property, in the adjacent family home. In the summer of 2012 Bob and his wife Cindy put NorthShore, their vacation home, in its place down by the lake shore. Building the 12 x 40 foot deck (33' screened) took a lot of Bob's time that summer, getting it ready for the next year, when others might enjoy it, too. Bob winters in Florida (he is Registrar at Florida Bible College of Tampa), but enjoys the gorgeous summers in northern lower Michigan. His wife Cindy retired from a career of 30+ years teaching, and they together enjoy their children and their children' families.

Why Bob Gilbert chose Frederic
NorthShore is accessible - just 5 miles off I-75 (at exit 270), yet wonderfully private. The lake is pristine, with a sandy bottom, perfect for wading and swimming, even with young children (a lovely big sand-bar goes out from the swimming beach), and also for fishing for large- and small- mouth bass, perch, bluegills, northern pike . . . other water sports are also permitted. There is a public boat landing at the southeast end of the lake, if you desire to bring your own boat, or rent one locally. Bob has available a 14' canoe and/or a 14' rowboat (with motor) for a small additional charge, by the day or by the week.
What makes this House unique
The views from the living room, the dining room, the master bedroom (with places to stretch out and read or nap, when you can take your eyes away from the view!) The quiet; the animals; hiking in the woods or on the trails. Sitting on the dock; by the lake in the glider . . . Cooking out on the grill; the great porch-deck. Sleeping outside in the cool, if you want to.

Great time with tremendous seclusion.
Wonderful time with lots of scenery and relaxation. Only one real complaint was the need for better beds as they are quite dated. Otherwise house was very comfortable. Will be back soon.
We appreciate the point of view, and will make every effort to upgrade the beds before next season.
Very nice property and we enjoyed our stay. We were disappointed that we were not made aware that the pontoon boat and the sail boat advertised were not available. Even with that we enjoyed our stay and the home.
I regret I have not yet updated the listing to remove the pontoon boat. It was removed from rental service due to damage and insurance issues.
Very clean- Lake Guthrie was very beautiful and peaceful.
Owner very responsive. Would definitely rent again. Great for families.
Comfortable and everything as stated except no option for pontoon boat once we were there- disappointing. While this is still private, it sadly won’t be for long. Lots are sectioned off and area being cleared close. The home felt most welcoming though and so many amenities! The porch really made it! Thank you, Gilberts.
A pontoon boat can be rented by the day or multiple days, at the rent-all place eleven miles up the road. We stopped renting our pontoon boat after last season, due to damage to it caused by unknown parties, and insurance issues.
Our neighbor to the west bought my brother's 7+ acre parcel, adjoining our home. He is preparing to build, I believe, one cabin. I am pretty sure Michigan law does not allow him to subdivide a parcel that is less than 10 acres, until he has owned the property for ten years. So - in the near future there may be one closer neighbor. Can't stop progress.
The porch is really nice, isn't it!
Fun Filled Family Vacation!
We had a wonderful time at North Shore, the vacation home exceeded our expectations (it's much larger than in the pictures!) We brought our boat and were able to launch it at the Public launch, we fished and caught bass, blue gill and even a couple nice pike, we released them all back! The kids and dog enjoyed the sandy area where they could easily swim and play in the water everyday, including jumping off the long dock! We saw deer, chipmunks that we fed, woodpeckers, lots of seashells and other animals. The kitchen was nice and spacious, included the essentials needed for our week as we cooked breakfast, lunch and some dinners (went to Meijer in Gaylord). The screened in porch was also nice, the sound of the trees and waves of the lake made it very relaxing! We also enjoyed the privacy and the fact that the property has so many trees and greenery around it and that the lake isn't overcrowded with cabins!
If you are looking for places to eat, Gobbler in Gaylord is a must for lunch (best turkey dinner/reubens), we also went to Bennethums for dinner which is one of our favorite restaurants near by and of course all the little shops that the Gaylord/Grayling area has to offer.
Overall a wonderful week spent relaxing and enjoying being a family! Looking forward to potentially booking again next summer! :)
Beautiful lake and surroundings area
Great experience plenty of amenities
Gaylord is a golf and ski mecca, with many attractions and amenities. Grayling is a center of canoeing and fly-fishing on the Au Sable River and its branches. Guthrie Lake (on site) is a mile long, sand-bottom, clean, clear water, excellent for swimming, wading, bass fishing, other water sports . . . Nearby is Hartwick Pines State Park, a stand of virgin pine forest, preserved from the lumbering days, as well as a lumbering museum. Also nearby is Otsego Lake State Park, on the 5-mile long Otsego Lake. Gaylord has the 'Call of the Wild' museum, a zoo of preserved Michigan animals; adjoining that is a mini-golf course and go-karting. Gaylord also has a contained, viewable herd of elk. Grayling has an interesting state fish hatchery.
