This charming cottage is nestled in a lush tropical garden behind a classic Spanish Revival home in the heart of beautiful Belmont Heights. Ideally located three palm-lined blocks away from the restaurants, shopping and bars of trendy 2nd Street in Belmont Shore and six blocks from the beach, this delightful property is close enough to be walking distance from all the fun while far enough away to guarantee peace, quiet, plentiful parking, and easy access to freeways and all of Southern California.
Upon arriving at the property, you'll feel the California/Beach vibe inherent in the neighborhood. As you make your way up and through the wrought iron gates you'll get your first look at the lushness and warmth of the back yard area where your cottage awaits. Amid the palms, ponds and inviting seating areas in the back yard, you'll see your cottage, built in 1922, and all yours.
A private porch awaits you with a bistro set, the perfect place to enjoy a morning cup of coffee. Inside, the living area features a comfortable sitting area with a queen sleeper sofa that can sleep an additional 2 guests. The dining area overlooks the garden area, enjoys great morning sun and features french doors that open out onto the private porch area. If you're visiting on business, the executive-style desk area gives you ample space to spread out and work. When the day is done, a clever dry bar area holds ice bucket, glassware, wine opener, and shaker to help aid the transition from daytime to evening.
The bedroom is cozy and comfortable, featuring a queen bed with 500 count sheets, and a second flat-screen TV with cable and DVR (this time a 24'). The en suite bath is efficient but complete, with a tub/shower combination, pedestal sink and full closet.
The kitchen is great for those spending a little more time with us, as it features a full-sized refrigerator and range, microwave, coffee makers, toaster, and complete dishware, cutlery and cooking paraphernalia. Or, if you're not in the mood to cook, pick up something hot & tasty from the corner gourmet grocery just five doors down, or drop into one of more than 30 restaurants on 2nd street, 3 blocks away.
The shared garden/patio area is a place to enjoy the beautiful mild weather of Southern California. There's a waterfall and pond, firepit, and comfortable sitting areas. Nearby is a dining area seating six.
Best of all is the location of this little oasis--close to everything, but a haven of tranquility when you arrive home again. We look forward to welcoming you, and doing all we can to insure a fun and restful visit.
We rarely stay in hotels and use vacation rentals whenever possible. Dennis and Mark could not have been more accommodating! Everything was perfect! We arrived to find a cute and cozy cottage which was decorated very nicely. There was plenty of room for the two of us. There was also a very nice welcome basket that was over the top! I have to say though, the yard was what we fell in love with. We had our coffee outside every morning near the water features. We were gone most of the day but when we returned around 10:00 every night, we flipped the switch to the fire pit and enjoyed the fire. Mark and Dennis were the perfect hosts! They gave great suggestions where to eat and what to visit. They even lent us their two bikes to use for a whole day. Dennis asked what we would add or change and I made the suggestion to add a makeup mirror in the bathroom. That afternoon he had it ordered! They really want their guests to be at home. Our daughter is moving home from Long Beach in June so now we really don't have a reason to go back to that area. We might go anyway, just to stay in this cottage again and enjoy the beautiful yard!

Our hosts, Dennis and Mark, knocked it out of the park! The cottage was comfortable and well appointed. The kitchen was well stocked with cookware, blender, food processor, and even a coffee bean grinder (in addition to the usual plates, glasses, silverware, etc). Dennis and Mark went beyond to ensure our stay was stress free. When the electricity went off in the area due to a storm, they brought candles to the cottage. When we wanted to take a day trip, they generously offered to dog sit. Can't say enough in the space allowed for this review. We highly recommend this property, and look forward to our next visit!
Our week in Long Beach was over way too quickly. We loved everything about our stay: Dennis and Mark are friendly, engaging, and helpful - perfect hosts; the cottage and courtyard are so pleasant that we had to push ourselves out to do things; the neighborhood is where we would want to live - great for walking, beautiful homes, and close to so much to see and do; lots of good restaurants and pubs in the area; easy street parking right out front and also close to bus stops.
We spent one day at Newport Beach, less than an hour south, to wander around Balboa Island and take an excursion to see dolphins and a humpback whale. We chose a small boat cruise - East Meets West Excursions - and loved it. We went to Seal Beach several times, about 4 miles away, and enjoyed the pastries at Crema Cafe and beers at Beachwood BBQ. Also did a lot of walking along the long, beautiful beach in LB, around the Peninsula, and along the canals in Naples.
So much fun and such a great place to call home while enjoying it!

We have stayed in multiple vacation homes and this one is at the top of our list. If we could give it 6 stars we would! Dennis and Mike have thought of everything from wine to chocolates, beach towels to beach chairs. The bed was amazing, the tropical garden was a dream setting and our favorite was walking to 2nd Street for some great restaurants. These owners take time to get to get to know you and recommended places to eat and beaches to go to. We ate at 3 of the restaurants within a mile of the house and all 3 were top notch from Nicks on 2nd to Sesame Mediterranean. And friendly, Californians are so helpful. Every single person, Uber driver, waitress or guy on the beach were so helpful and willing to share their love for this paradise. We can't wait to go back, that's if Dennis and Mike have an opening!
I love this rental and it is now my number one choice when traveling on my own. I was visiting family in the area and enjoyed having my cottage retreat! The small outside table by the beautifully landscaped patio is a great place to sit in the afternoon to check email or just chill. The breakfast area with glass on all sides and a view of the patio is another great place to sit and have a nice view. This is a detached house (no shared walls) at the back of the property, so it is nice and quiet. The bed is very comfortable, the shower has plenty of hot water, and the flickering LED candles in the historic fireplace are a nice touch at night. The washer and dryer came in handy, and the cottage has everything else I need. The food and beverage basket was much appreciated after my 4 hour flight delay and late arrival! I highly recommend this rental for one person or for two people who have the same sleeping schedule.... The bathroom entrance is in the bedroom. My stay was in August, and the AC kept the rooms nice and cool. There is a nice ocean breeze in the evenings. Great rental!
