About John Kirkelie

I grew up in North Dakota and my wife's family is from the Portugese colony of Goa India. She was born in Nairobi, lived in London and moved to Alberta where we met. We enjoy the quiet at the 'cabin' and the deer in the yard and being able to see the milky way and all the stars at night.

John Kirkelie purchased this cabin in 2005

Why John Kirkelie chose Montana

We were stationed in Edmonton, Alberta and we were looking for a replacement property for a rental we had in Denver. My niece lives by Flathead Lake on the west side of the Mission Mts and we started looking there but expanded our search and found this beautiful log home over the Mt.

What makes this cabin unique

This Swan Valley corridor is a true wilderness area where development is limited to provide corridors for the Grizzly Bears to transit between the Bob Marshall Wilderness to the East and the Mission Mountain Wilderness area to the West. At the property you feel isolated but are actually close to the highway and 4 miles from a well stocked merchantile and gas station. You will see deer out the window daily and possibly other wildlife. A great place to take a break from a hectic pace. There is no TV(bring DVD's-video games etc), internet or cell phone service at the cabin. Cell phone service is nearby. On a clear night there are more stars visible than you can imagine.

Family Time in Montana

Cabin was central located for us to see Glacier Natl. Park, other scenic byways, rivers animals, ranches and mountains. Cabin had plenty of room for everyone and beds were comfortable. It could use more or better lighting, because it was a little dark even with blinds open especially some of the bedroom . The first night down stairs was a little musky after that it was good. Seeing deer, turkeys, rabbits was nice and take a walk in forest. I would recommend this cabin to anyone staying in this area just make sure you have plenty of gas nearest gas station about 30-40 miles away.

Great location for events at Holland Lake Lodge

  • 4 of 5

If you're allergic to bees, watch out - bees above the front door in 2 places and nesting in the exterior walls of the cabin. But if you like watching Rabbits and Deer - wonderful viewing from all the windows. The number of bathrooms are terrific but don't count on everyone getting ready at once - the hot water is limited at best. Overall, a good location and experience.

Owner's Response: Thank your for the revue. The hot water has not been an issue before except once when we were there and it was a burnt out element. We are checking to see if that happened again. October edit- The water heater checked out fine. No other guests have found it to be an issue. A father and two sons came for one night from a hunting camp to "get a good shower". They took long showers one after the other and all had hot water. As for the wasps, they will be gone as well. I hope the wedding went well and would like to have you return sometime.

The cabin was amazing....It was a great fit to our family vacation.....Creme dela creme.... first morning there was July 4....Sitting on the balcony soaking in the morning sights and smells and I hear a lady singing "God Bless America" from the town below....echoing through the valley...sent chills down my spine! You could not ask for a cleaner, well kept cabin. It was very spacious and was perfect. Although My Dad passed away while we were there and my husband and I had to leave early and leave our family there....we would definitely try this again! Thanks John!

Owner's Response: Thank you Lorie for the great review. Condon does an amazing job of celebrating the 4th. The parade is large and the fireworks are spectacular and last a long time for such a tiny community. Hearing America the Beautiful coming through the trees would be special. Again our condolences on the loss of your father, may your special memories of him always bring a smile.

The epitome of quaint

  • 5 of 5

We were in love with the cabin and the area from the first moment we pulled up. We used the cabin as home-base for a motorcycle ride into Glacier National Park - just wish we had allocated more time to enjoy the Condon area. The cabin was so picturesque, clean, and fun. We loved every moment we spent there and will certainly come back.

Beautiful Property - Tons of Space

  • 4 of 5

First impression - The house hadn't been used since last season. Needed a good vacuuming and a good airing out. We spent the first 1-2 hours cleaning the house before all of our friends arrived. Bed wasn't made, dead flies covered every window sill, and the house was a mixture of dust and whatever was used to kill off the bugs. We had to walk through the house to take down all of the cobwebs. The towels we didn't find until the last day we were there.

Beyond that. Everything was great. Honestly if we were not the first people of the season - the review would have been five stars. Incredible location, easy to find, lots of places for people to spread out. Lots of amenities in the kitchen for cooking. Beautiful home.

If we are heading that direction we would stay again!

Owner's Response: This unfortunate first impression was the result of my miscommunication with the cleaner. She was not aware that anyone was arriving and had not prepped the cabin for them as she always does. And we will make sure it is always ready and welcoming in the future as it has been in the past, prior to this. I appreciate that Kimberly still gave the cabin a 4 star rating after that beginning for their stay. That says alot about how the cabin is a special place to stay.
