I grew up in North Dakota and my wife's family is from the Portugese colony of Goa India. She was born in Nairobi, lived in London and moved to Alberta where we met. We enjoy the quiet at the 'cabin' and the deer in the yard and being able to see the milky way and all the stars at night.
John Kirkelie purchased this cabin in 2005
We were stationed in Edmonton, Alberta and we were looking for a replacement property for a rental we had in Denver. My niece lives by Flathead Lake on the west side of the Mission Mts and we started looking there but expanded our search and found this beautiful log home over the Mt.
This Swan Valley corridor is a true wilderness area where development is limited to provide corridors for the Grizzly Bears to transit between the Bob Marshall Wilderness to the East and the Mission Mountain Wilderness area to the West. At the property you feel isolated but are actually close to the highway and 4 miles from a well stocked merchantile and gas station. You will see deer out the window daily and possibly other wildlife. A great place to take a break from a hectic pace. There is no TV(bring DVD's-video games etc), internet or cell phone service at the cabin. Cell phone service is nearby. On a clear night there are more stars visible than you can imagine.
Some good friends got together to have a ladies weekend away and to do some snowshoeing, already living in Montana we try to find a place just far enough from home. This home was a perfect place for a get-away. The kitchen had everything we needed, we threw everything into the crock pot for soup and went down to Holland Lake, a nice snow shoe hike to the water falls was so rewarding. Coming back to the cabin the fireplace was so nice to warm up to, and dinner was ready. We really enjoyed the space as we all had our own bedroom, with comfy beds, with lots of peace & quiet. Several of us are considering another stay this coming summer to do some kayaking, the only problem is not being able to bring my dog as protection.
The cabin was spacious with plenty of room for our family. The large table allowed us to all sit down to dinner together. The pool table was a bonus. It snowed while we were there which added to the magic. We will certainly come back in the future. The pictures in the ad do not show how wonderful this cabin really is. The only downfall was the faucet in the bathtub. If we would have had an Allen wrench we could have easily fixed it. We were still able to draw water for the children's baths. The kitchen is more than adequately stocked. Very nice.
The Elk Antler Lodge was a perfect place for our 6-person group. Everything about the lodge exceeded our expectations. The lodge was roomy, well-furnished, and remote - yet conveniently located near a general store, bar, and restaurant. I had several conversations with the Owner about what to expect and what to bring. He was very professional and a joy to deal with. We would love to come back. I highly recommend this property for someone looking for a remote yet comfortable setting, in a part of the state that is seldom explored.
Cabin was central located for us to see Glacier Natl. Park, other scenic byways, rivers animals, ranches and mountains. Cabin had plenty of room for everyone and beds were comfortable. It could use more or better lighting, because it was a little dark even with blinds open especially some of the bedroom . The first night down stairs was a little musky after that it was good. Seeing deer, turkeys, rabbits was nice and take a walk in forest. I would recommend this cabin to anyone staying in this area just make sure you have plenty of gas nearest gas station about 30-40 miles away.
Thanks for accommodating us. Wonderful cabin and we enjoyed our stay. Looked forward to deer in yard each evening.
If you're allergic to bees, watch out - bees above the front door in 2 places and nesting in the exterior walls of the cabin. But if you like watching Rabbits and Deer - wonderful viewing from all the windows. The number of bathrooms are terrific but don't count on everyone getting ready at once - the hot water is limited at best. Overall, a good location and experience.
