About the property

1 Room cabin with kitchenette, Sleeps 2

One Room All Knotty Pine, Hardwood Floors, Stone Fireplace w/Kitchenette

Romantic, Cozy cabin for 2 with beautiful stone fireplace in secluded 575 wooded acre preserve with stream & waterfalls. Newly remodeled with bath, tile flooring, Kitchenette, hardwood floors. Nature Lover's Paradise. This charming comfortable cabin is an authentic 1930s era hunting cabin on a large property with hiking trails that go on for miles. The stream & waterfalls are breathtaking with a private swimming hole that is relaxing and refreshing. Bring your fishing pole (if you have a Pennsylvania fishing license).

Exceptionally private, half-mile long driveway (gated); for 75 years was a private hunting club but now is maintained as the owner's exclusive retreat. Privacy and discretion assured.

The cabin is located only 6 miles from Milford, PA, which Atlantic Magazine once called 'The Prettiest County Seat in America'. 3/4 of the village is in a National Historic District featuring galleries, antiques, coffee shops, boutiques and specialty shopping.

Heritage attractions include Grey Towers (Richard Morris Hunt-designed 19th c. stone mansion), The Columns Museum (featuring the blood-stained Lincoln flag, which cushioned the President's head moments after he was shot) and the Hotel Fauchere/Relais & Chateaux, with its three restaurants, patisserie, day spa, vintage menu collection and permanent exhibit of Hudson River School paintings. The day spa, Badea & Soul, offers massages, facials and body scrubs/wraps in the comfort of your cabin rental, by pre-arranged appointment. Contact them at 570-409-6540.

Milford is also adjacent to the 70,000 acre Delaware Water Gap National Park and the federally-protected Upper Delaware Wild & Scenic River offering a wide array of river activities, including tubing, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, eagle-watching and more.

About Sean Strub

Owner is a writer and investor who lives in nearby Milford and New York City. Loves dogs, nature, reading and gentle, kind people.

Sean Strub purchased this cabin in 1997

Why Sean Strub chose Poconos

I bought the property because it is exceedingly private, evokes a spiritual connection to nature and it is movie-set gorgeous. It is also close to NYC, only 75 miles away, but it feels like you’re in the Canadian northwoods or somewhere far away from the stresses and pressures of urban life.

What makes this cabin unique

Mushrooming; trout fishing; hiking; wildlife including black bear, deer, wild turkey, mountain lion. Very few mosquitoes (the bats eat them.)

Pond; stream; waterfall; swimming hole.

Exceptional privacy, half-mile long driveway.

The Historic Village of Milford - the birthplace of the American Conservation movement - is only 6 miles away, with heritage & cultural attractions, antiques and great restaurants (including the Delmonico Room, Bar Louis & the Patisserie Fauchere at The Hotel Fauchere, co-owned by the owner of this cottage).

70,000 acre Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.

Secluded Paradise

  • 5 of 5

This was hands-down the most beautiful, memorable experience I have ever had in the Poconos and my family has been taking trips in the area for years! This place is about an hour outside of any major tourist location and there's an added layer of magic that come with that seclusion.

We set out with the intent to explore the town while we were there, but all we wanted to do once we arrived was stay on the incredible property! We hiked for hours exploring the streams and waterfalls, which you could hear as soon as you step outside the cabin. On what was supposed to be our final day, we woke to snowfall and decided to see if we could get the cabin another night - we could, and the magic continued!

The cabin itself is incredibly charming. We found ourselves laying cozily in bed with a warm fire roaring, a little bit more than we expected to! If you plan properly, the cabin has everything you need to cook for yourself for a few days - microwave, toaster oven and charcoal grill. Everything was clean and most kitchen necessities were provided (the only thing we ran out of was paper towels, not sure if they provide or not - regardless, we should have had our own!).

Cindy was a wonderful host and everyone we met in town was wonderful as well! We absolutely cannot wait to return again in a few months... This is definitely going to be a regular getaway spot for us!

Sublime Stay

  • 5 of 5

The property that the cabins are located on is gorgeous and totally secluded. We ended up getting upgraded to the larger lodge, which was nice in terms of elbow room, and all of the buildings are pristinely maintained. Cannot recommend this location, and the hospitality of its owner, highly enough!

Magical pocono perfection

  • 5 of 5

What a very special property this was! The cabin and entire property are so special, the photos simply don't do any of it justice. The cabin was clean, cozy and adorable and the land was inspiring. We hiked to waterfalls, across streams and up mountains. We even woke up Sunday to a couple inches of snow; like I said, magical. The owner was extremely nice and knowledgeable about the town and the area. We would go back in a heartbeat and fully intend to soon. If you are looking to get away from your corporate grind and experience nature you cannot go wrong with this property.

Beautiful place

  • 5 of 5

I will start with the positives. The land around the cabin is truly breathtaking. There are miles to explore in the woods which offered both moderate and intense terrain. The swimming hole was awesome looking but we chose not to swim. The cabin was clean and everything worked as described. The only issues I had were that the photos and description felt deceiving as the cabin was not quite as isolated as I had hoped or expected based on the pics. We were very lucky as there were no other guests in the neighboring cabins but they were very very close and had they been occupied I would have been pretty disappointed sharing this paradise. And although it's advertised as a basic cabin, for the price I paid I would have expected more than two very flat bed pillows. Luckily I brought my own with me. The bed was ok, not insanely comfortable but not horrible either. The fans helped keep us cool so that was good. Coffee machine was fine and fridge worked which was all we used.

Overall, it's a beautiful area and the cabin was really nice. I potentially would stay there again, but would prefer a more isolated cabin with no neighbors 20 feet away. But the cabin is definitely nice and cozy. Super super cozy. Made me wish I owned my own! Oh and when visiting this cabin make sure you bring coffee with you, for the machine, and anything you may need (water etc). I'm glad I did because the closest store is far!

Owner's Response: Mary, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. I'll definitely check on the pillows as it sounds like they may need replacement. We don't supply coffee, but the water from the tap is delicious and of excellent quality. In terms of the degree of privacy, I thought we had a photograph that showed the proximity of the lodge to the cabin and cottage, but as I review the pictures it isn't as clear as it should be. However, both the lodge and the cottage are oriented away from the cabin; when people are using the screened in porch at either one, they can't even be seen from the cabin, so the occupants of each remain quite secluded. And, of course, they are at the end of a half-mile driveway and only three of four buildings on 575 acres. But we will add a better map showing the building layout or photographs to make it clearer to a prospective guest. Regards, Sean

Beautiful, serene…everything we had hoped for!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I (and our small dog) were looking to get out of the city and, as luck would have it, found this charming getaway spot at the last second. Located in Milford, a pretty little town with great food and spa (we highly recommend getting a massage at Badea & Soul!), this cozy cabin is about ten minutes driving from the center of town, surrounded by trees with a long driveway that takes you into an utterly beautiful forest with three rentals (a cabin, cottage and lodge). We stayed in the cabin, the smallest one, and it was like we had gone to camp, if camp were a lot cleaner, more comfortable and had its own private fireplace along with sink, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, shower, bathroom, heating system…okay, so it was more like bringing our apartment into the woods so that we could open the door each morning and go hiking!

Speaking of, the surrounding area -- I believe it's 500-600 acres? -- was breathtaking. We hiked around the property for a few hours, passing by some beautiful waterfalls, but I'm pretty sure only covered a tenth of what's there. At night, we had a barbecue (there's a fire pit along with grill) and fell asleep watching old movies (note: the cabin does not have a TV/DVD/BluRay player so we brought our own although, to be honest, there's so much to do it's not really necessary).

Long story short, if you want to feel like you've run away but like knowing that civilization is just a 5-10 minute drive away, this is the place for you. (The owner was out of town but the manager, Cindy, was very sweet and accessible and took the time to take us to the preserve and show us around.) It was an incredible weekend and we absolutely want to return.
