About the property

Casual west coast elegance with stunning oceanfront views.

The Anchorage at Whiskey Landing is a unique west coast experience. Traditional post and beam architecture, a master craftsman's attention to detail, and luxury amenities make The Anchorage one of the most desirable vacation getaways in Ucluelet, but it's the unparalleled location that makes it one of the most memorable. Situated right at the water's edge in Ucluelet Inlet, The Anchorage offers stunning views of the ocean stretching from your doorstep to the mountains beyond. Although it's only a 2 minute walk to the center of town, seals, sealions, eagles and otters will be your closest neighbours at The Anchorage.

This two-bed two-bath retreat features a spacious open concept layout that easily gives larger groups plenty of room to spread out while still offering a warm and inviting atmosphere. The living room is thoughtfully laid out around an extra-large natural gas fireplace, and bay windows with reading nooks offer a cozy place to snuggle up with a blanket and enjoy the scenery. The main dining area features panoramic views of the inlet and the mountains, and is ideal for hosting a big family brunch, or just enjoying a romantic dinner for two.

The Anchorage features vaulted ceilings made with locally sourced cedar and douglas fir, stainless steel appliances, and luxurious features like a two person soaker tub in the master bedroom ensuite. Wall-to-wall windows and skylights flood The Anchorage with natural light. The large wrap-around deck is the perfect place to start your day watching the sun rise over the misty waters, or enjoy an evening dinner of freshly caught seafood while watching the local fishing fleet come in to moor for the night.

From The Anchorage you are literally steps away from the Ucluelet Aquarium and the government dock, 1 minute from the local bakery and cafe, 2 minutes from the local grocery and BC liquor store, 3 minutes from the whale-watching fleet docks, 5 minutes from the boutiques and restaurants on Peninsula Rd. 10 minutes from the Wild Pacific Trail (all on foot), while Tofino is an easy 30 minute drive through the old-growth coastal forests of Pacific Rim National Park.

Unspoiled beaches and pristine wilderness, legendary salmon and halibut fishing, incredible whale watching opportunities, world-class surfing, and a year-round schedule of family-friendly festivals and events are just some of the attractions you can look forward to!

Whether you are looking to unwind and enjoy the laid-back lifestyle of one of the last real fishing villages on the west coast, or searching for adventure on the open ocean just around the corner, The Anchorage is the perfect home away from home. We welcome you to come and experience what is sure to be the trip of a lifetime!

About Shanti and Mark

We are Mark and Shanti, a young couple from Vancouver Island that moved to Bamfield (just across Barkley Sound) in 2006 and fell in love with this special corner of the world. We are both wildlife biologists specializing in birds, and we have spent the last decade and a half working everywhere from Baja to Antarctica as researchers. Our real passion is the Canadian High Arctic, where we have been returning every year since 2004. When we aren't running around chasing birds, we (and our young daughter Mallory) enjoy surfing, boating, and eating fresh seafood back on the coast. We are both active in the communities of Ucluelet and Tofino, and we have been part of the Tofino Shorebird Festival for many years.

If you want to learn a bit more about our bird work, check out our website!

Shanti and Mark purchased this condo in 2016

Why Shanti and Mark chose Ucluelet

Shanti first came to Ucluelet in 2005 to work as a fisheries observer, and Mark not long after in search of birds....We eventually settled down in Bamfield, but we'd pop over to Ukee in our little boat as often as we could, and invariably tie up at the government dock, right in front of Whiskey Landing. Watching Whiskey Landing get built over the years, little did we think we'd ever have the chance to own a part of this incredible building! Whiskey Landing is a special place because it really represents the vision of the fellow who built it. No expense was spared, and no compromise was made, and the building is truly a testament to old-school west-coast craftsmanship. We are so excited to be able to share this incredible spot with guests from all around the world!

What makes this condo unique

The Anchorage at Whiskey Landing is all about the little details; the hand-carved ravens on the outside beams (one of them with a Japanese fishing float in its bill!); the unfinished tree trunk post in the second bedroom, the local art....But these are just details. The very best features are ones that we can't really take any credit for - like the eagles perching in the cedars just a few meters away, the sealions cavorting in the inlet, the boats coming and going from the offshore fishing grounds....It's about being in a place where you can really feel and experience the true west coast lifestyle!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Mark and Shanti's beautiful getaway home is absolutely stunning. Their place is very modern, with floor to ceiling windows boasting superb views over the harbour. We often spent breakfast on the patio watching wildlife as the sun rose beyond the mountains :) The kitchen has everything you could possibly need, including herbs and spices. An in suit washer and dryer is available also. The kitchen, large lounge room and dining space is all open concept, which makes socializing very easy and fun. The bedrooms are large, with exceptionally comfortable beds, lots of light and a large jacuzzi tub in the ensuite. We had a girls weekend away and this space was perfect for the 5 of us. Very clean, spacious and close to everything you could possibly need. We would definitely stay back here again!! Thanks

The condo was clean and just as described. .

I liked that there were games available for guests to use. My husband was not impressed that even the most basic TV channels (gold medal hockey game) were only available to purchase. A major downside was the construction that was happening directly below us all day Saturday and Sunday morning. There was absolutely no peace and quiet at all. We would have liked to know about this. Also Zoe’s, a local bakery was recommend. Do not bother going ther. Coffee was terrible. I didn’t think anyone could mess up an americano but apparently you can. Also the hot chocolate was powdered.

Owner's Response: Hi there, We are very sorry about the construction noise. The work that was going on can only really be done in ideal weather, and it was a bit of a last-minute call to get a crew up from Port Alberni to do this work. We do our best to notify guests if we anticipate any kind of disruption or noise, but in this case we weren't even aware the crew was coming up until the very last minute. At any rate, we are sorry it was an issue. We do have basic cable TV, but we don't have TSN, which was the only channel showing the game.

Fabulous Accomodation in Ucluelet!

  • 5 of 5

Clean and spacious, modern condo with floor to ceiling windows to enjoy the fabulous view! Loved eating at the dining table and gazing out onto the water and beautiful scenery. This place was able to accomodate our party of 6, with two sleeping on the pull-out sofa. Kitchen was small but stocked with all the basics to do some simple cooking with. The master bedroom had a ginormous ensuite which included a much welcomed jacuzzi tub to soak in after a long drive across the island. The small shower didn't drain well so we informed the owners who replied that they will look into it. Would be nice to have some towel racks within arms reach around the sink area instead of a few hooks on the wall.

A few in our party noted the fishy smell upon arrival in the parking lot, however, we all got used to it and it didn't seem to bother us during the rest of our stay. The condo is right on the landing where fisherman dock their boats. It is also right next to the small catch and release aquarium. Short walk up to store, restaurants, and cafes.

Owners were prompt with replies.

The positives far outweigh a few minor negatives. This place stands out as an inviting and pleasurable place to stay.

Owner's Response: Hi Karen, Thanks again for the heads up regarding the shower. We do have occasional issues with people rinsing gear in the shower which almost invariably fills the drain traps with sand. Sorry we didn't catch this before your stay, and thanks again for bringing it to our attention. Low tides are awesome for exploring the shoreline, but they can also cause a 'marine' smell to waft through town. Glad this wasn't an issue for you guys - part of life on the coast! Thanks again for the nice words, and we are so glad you enjoyed your stay!

Beautiful, cozy, best view, pristine and immaculate, comfortable, very roomy, and extremely quiet

  • 5 of 5

I've been to Tofino and Ukee many times, it is my favourite West Coast destination, but this time ,my sister and I had the best experience staying at The Anchorage. The unit is super large, the views are breathtaking, we experienced ultimate comfort. We had the best sleep ever in the king size bed (dressed with the finest linens) of the main bedroom, spoiled ourselves with the jacuzzi bath, wrapped ourselves in the plush oversized towels available in both bathrooms, and had candlelight dinner watching the moon lit ocean and the boats sliding by....

The sun rise floods the large windows and invites for the first cup of coffee of the day sitting on the comfortable balcony, listening to the birds skimming the water in search for breakfast.

I can't think of a better place for my next visit, and recommend it to everyone I know.

Thank you to Mark and Shanti who were most adorable and always available for all questions.
