Porto Alabe: Going South of Bosa, the next beach down is Porto Alabe. Less crowded than Bosa, beautiful sandy beach and a good bar and Pizzeria. There is a path from the beach which goes over the hill to another sandy beach with interesting rock formations. This path is a joy to walk along, the wild bushes of the macchia giving their heavy scent in summer, and covered with wild flowers in spring, including many types of orchids.
There are several ways to get to Porto Alabe, but on your way there or back it is worth having a look at the murals in Tinnura. Remarkably life-like depictions of rural scenes of days gone by.The town of Flussio is also worth mentioning, famed for its industry of hand made baskets. These are made from the dried stems of the asphodel whose white flowers are all around in spring.
Bosa: Bosa was probably founded by the Phoenicians in the 9th Century BC. At the end of the Roman Empire it was dilapidated and depopulated. The old town of Bosa, Sa Costa, dates back to the 13th Century, and is a fascinating maze of little narrow cobbled streets. Sa Costa is well worth wandering around and seeing all the pretty old houses, often painted in bright colours. The castle is worth a visit (closed Mondays), fantastic views from the walls, and a 14th Century church with remarkable frescoes in good condition. Bosa is an ideal location from which to explore places of interest in the North West region and beyond. It is also a wonderful place to stay, relax, do very little and enjoy the lovely beaches, bars and restaurants. This is a fantastic area for food and wine and there are many opportunities to sample wine, food and olive oils produced locally. The producers are extremely generous with their time and produce.
Bosa.. .: There are two museums in Bosa, one behind the 'conces' the old warehouses and tannery opposite the main town. This is the Museum of the old leather tanning industry. The other, on the Corso, devotes a floor 'Casa Deriu' to a noble family's apartment from the late 19th Century. There is a permanent exhibition of artwork by Melkiorre Melis, a local artist and major exponent of 20th Century applied arts in Sardinia. Also there is a surrealist art gallery attached to this museum, and usually other exhibitions, especially of the traditional Bosan handmade lacework. You will still see old ladies sitting in their doorways in the old town making this lacework.
The Carnival of Bosa is, with no doubt, the most involving, trasgressive and funny festival throughout the year.
The most busy days are the conventional days of the carnival: on the Fat Thursday a parade of carts is held; on the Saturday there is the celebration of the cellars and many of these, located in the ancient town,

We have been Giuseppe's guests in his "green apartment" for a couple of weeks, from the 2nd to the 15th of August, and the experience was, simply, amazing. Giuseppe was helpful, friendly and highly professional, there was no issue that could not be solved on-spot and with extreme kindness. The apartment was spacious (we were a family of 4), clean and provided with all comforts. The house is right on the beach, and has private access, plus a new (2015) swimming pool when the sea is a bit rough...Giuseppe also offers kayaks to sail along the Porto Alabe beaches.
We enjoyed our holiday and, thanks to Giuseppe, we are looking forward to come back to Bosa and Porto Alabe in the next future.
I stayed in the large apartment with my husband and five friends. The apartment was clean, very spacious, and well appointed. The beach was absolutely gorgeous as is the surrounding area. The water was beautifully clear and not too cold to swim in in late April. There are many sites to see within an hour's drive of the house, including the charming cities of Bosa, Alghero, and Tinnura. Giuseppe, the proprietor, was friendly, easy to reach, and happy to offer advice and provide assistance. Highly recommended.
We had a lovely holiday in this spacious well maintained apartment. It worked perfectly for us with the balcony overlooking the sea so we were able to keep an eye on our teenagers on the beach! I would highly recommend this property, it was a perfect base to either have days staying local or to come home to. A car is important for being out and about. We will definitely visit again!
This was a fantastic holiday and we were met by Giuseppe who showed us around this spotless well presented apartment.
Our breath was taken away when the door to the balcony was open and we saw the view of the beach and blue sea beyond.
It is as the description and only a few steps from the apartment to the beach where you could leave your camp all day in total safety.
Giuseppe provided a good service prior to the holiday and sent an excellent description of how to get from the airport to the apartment.
I cannot recommend this location enough to anyone who wants to go to this lovely island and we cannot wait to go back.
The house is perfectly located with direct access to the beach. With four persons we had plenty of room in the large apartment, an additional room with two beds was not used but could give even more people comfortable place to stay. All rooms were in excellent shape, everything perfectly clean.
As in every vacation home the one who will be searching for bugs might find something to complain. But we spent two wonderful weeks and fully enjoyed our stay. The swimming pool behind the house is just one year old and therefore in a perfect shape. Large enough to swim a bit and enjoy the cool and clean water. A small shallow area even offers a "playground" for babies in the pool that can not yet swim. There are more than enough sunloungers around the pool as well as some sunshades. A nice palm tree even offers some natural shadow area at the pool. We especially enjoyed the luxury that we could spend some hours at the beach in the morning, taking some parasols and beach lies from the house with us but being able to turn back to the pool again for some time whenever we or the children preferred to do so. Also a beach bar in only some minutes distance is within reach. This year a little shop opened its doors offering all necessary things to cover your daily needs: Fresh panini, and different sorts of "crudo" that I will really really miss now :-), wine and beer, milk, etc.
Last but not least our hirer Giuseppe is the good soul of the place, keeping himself in the background but being there in some minutes if you need his help or need some recommendations for restaurant or boat charter or whatever in the near area.
I can fully redommend to spend your vacations at this place.
Porto Alabe is a small village in the North West coast of Sardinia. 5 km from Bosa and 50 from Alghero. Porto Alabe Just a 5 minute drive along the sea front from Bosa Marina is the sea side resort of Tresnuraghes. Being built on a hillside, sloping down towards the sea, it gives the houses here wonderful sea views. The main attraction here is the wide arc of fine sandy beach which narrows as it stretches along the coast and turns into a mixture of sand and rocks.
