|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
Sail Away is located only 50 steps from the gorgeous sands of the Gulf of Mexico and another short walk to the Trading Post, its location is incredible. This single level home is accessed by a short flight of exterior stairs making it very convenient for everyone. We have maximized the use of every inch of this small cottage. It is fabulously decorated with great artwork and pops of color and has everything you need to make your stay great. We have thought of everything inside and out with a screened porch, COMPLETELY enclosed outdoor hot and cold shower and a large wraparound deck with picnic table w/ umbrella . There are Adirondack chairs with cushions, ottomans and cup holders to enjoy the ocean view. No matter your location on this large deck, you will have fantastic views. While this property does sleep a total of 6, we would not recommend all adults as space might be tight at maximum capacity. Come for a long weekend, a week or even a month or two. It’s perfect no matter what time of year.
Floor Plan: Living room with pull out couch, flat screen TV, DVD, island dining table, kitchen, full bath, Bedroom 1- Full and twin bunk bed, TV/DVD, X-BOX W/GAMES and laundry room; and Bedroom 2 – queen bed, TV/VCR and DVD. There is also access onto a screen porch with bistro table for 2 which opens onto the wraparound deck.
The kitchen is set up with everything you could possibly need and then some. Extra seating with a picnic table on the wrap around deck and more seating on another deck below. Stroll along the wooden boardwalks or lounge in the grass.
My husband and I were looking for a place to go on a nice quite beach vacation with our then 3 & 2yr old children. We saw Cape San Blas on Google maps and decided to go there, we fell in love instantly. We have been going back for a few years now and can not think of a better place to spend time with our family. It is the most peaceful and gorgeous place we have ever been. Every person that we have met there and ones that we have sent there since, have been back numerous times. The beaches are beautiful, sugar fine sand, blue-green water, amazing sunsets.
Melanie & Paul Kastner/Owner purchased this cottage in 2012
When we finally decided to buy a house in Cape San Blas, Sail Away was our first choice. The cottage charm of this house can not be resisted. Being that it is only 180 steps from the water, maybe 50 steps to the sand, it is ideal for adults and children alike. The wrap around deck has a nonslip finish to make it completely safe for children that have just come out of the outdoor shower.
You will fall in love with this cottage from the anti slip finish on the wrap-a-round decking & the outdoor shower to the cheery Caribbean colors inside. The fully equipped NEW kitchen has everything you could possible need. The screened in porch has great views and faces the beach so you get that wonderful breeze off of the water. Gulf views from almost every part of the deck. Lets not forget that it is only 50 STEPS from the beach. That's less then a 30 SECOND walk!!! We are only a few hundred feet from the 'Tradin Post' to pick up last minute groceries, beach accessories or pizza and wings. They pretty much have everything you could need, which saves you from having to drive into Port St. Joe. Nationwide calling to anywhere in the 50 United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands and to all of Canada so you can keep in touch with family.(cell service is not great in Cape San Blas)
Beautiful. Swimming in the sea, watching dolphins, linedancing. It was Paradise. We really enjoyed our time here and will remember it for the rest of our lives.
Sail Away cottage is exactly what it looks like in the profile. It's a small, well-designed cottage with only two houses between it and the Gulf of Mexico. You can sit on the deck or on the screen porch and see patches of the Gulf and hear the waves while you eat breakfast you prepared in the fully-functional kitchen. (Actually, it's better stocked than the one at my house.) There is plenty of space to sleep a family with 2-3 children, but there is not a lot for children to do on Cape San Blas besides playing on the beach, so plan accordingly. The master bed is very comfortable, but my daughter found the lower bunk a little less soft than she would have liked. It didn't stop her from curling up there to play with her tablet, though.
The location is choice, just a few hundred yards from the Trading Post, where you can get just about anything you might need, from ground beef to fishing tackle to a boogie board to an eyeglass repair kit. I have no idea how they fit so much stuff in that little store. The beach is wonderful, fine, powdery white sand, and not crowded at all. We went in late October, and the highs varied from 79 degrees to the mid-80s. The water was cold at first but perfect once you got used to it.
All in all, Sail Away Cottage was a lovely place to stay with our family and we'd love to visit again someday!
Let me first say Thank You Melanie for letting us come back to your home..This is our 2nd time staying at the Sail Away Cottage...We love it... My husband & I couldn't think of staying any where else. The cottage is perfect for us it has everything we need so we can pack lite.. We got to visit with our neighbor's who are from Hopkinsville.KY who we meet last yr and that was nice. The folks in the area are some of the most sweetest people you will ever meet ( just like you have known them your whole life).
We tried a lot of different restaurants this time and needless to say they were all Yum-Me...
This is the most perfect place if your looking for a nice place to stay, close to the beach that is not crowed & lots of quite time...We absolutely love it...This is a perfect vacation for us.
And...Melanie (the owner) is spectacular to work with and she is most prompt with any questions you may have.
Thank you so much Melanie for everything... We will see ya next year or maybe sooner "if grandma will watch the kids"" LOL

We had a wonderful stay at the cottage. It is very close to the beach and the cottage was like described, we expected the same. The trading post is very close and offers everything.... Thanks!
My family has been vacationing at the Cape on and off for many years. In the past we have stayed at big beach houses with extended family members. This year we decided that we wanted a small place for our family of four to stay in order to have a little more privacy. We found Sail Away and thought it would be perfect for us. When we arrived we found it to be beyond our expectations! It was clean, cute, and in the perfect location. The beach was closer than I expected and it was extremely convenient to be right next to the trading post and ice cream shops. One of the things I loved about the cottage was there were plenty of little nooks where you could store your belongings to keep the place neat during your stay. Plus the private outside shower made cleaning up easy when coming in from the beach and there are plenty of places to hang your towels to dry so you're not having to wash them all week. Our daughters (10 & 8)enjoyed their bunk beds and watching their little tv from the top bed. My husband and I loved having breakfast out on the deck every morning. Our family members stayed less than 1/4 mile down the beach so it was nice to be able to walk to see them but we loved having our own quiet cottage. We definitely will return to Sail Away and hopefully stay longer!
Sail Away Cottage was perfect for my family of 3! It was bright and very cozy! Though it was not right in front of the beach, we could still see it every morning and listen to the waves crashing while enjoying our coffee in the ocean breeze on the deck! We weren't there most of the time because we were either out exploring the Cape and other places like Port. St. Joe, Apalachicola, Mexico Beach, St. George's Island and the wildlife preserve or we walked a very short distance to the beach and sat there like bums all day! We watched fireworks from the beach and spent one night on the beach with a fire and smores! But when we were there, we were very comfortable! The bathroom was clean and tidy as well as the cottage. It got very hot everyday and the AC in the house worked great, sometimes we got cold even! A HUGE plus about the location of this house is The Cape Trading Post! It is a very short walk from the house and we went there just about everyday! They have everything you need and stuff you don't, but you'll buy anyway! There is also a little donut stand and coffee spot in the same area and they are amazing! I HIGHLY recommend the fried crossiant and the Mexican Latte, hot or iced.....both pure heaven! There is also no shortage of fresh seafood to eat! You can either go eat somewhere or buy it fresh and cook it yourself! Places I recommend to dine are Triple Tails, Indian Pass Raw Bar and Shipwreck Raw Bar. Cape San Blas is beautiful and everyone we met was super friendly! I love that it was my first experience to Florida! I really hope we will get a chance to come back next year! I also want to mention that I had excellent communication with the owner, Melanie the entire time, from when I reserved the cottage almost a year ago to the time we got there....even while we were there! If you want an escape to the beach, Sail Away Cottage is perfect!
We had an AWESOME TIME!!!!! It was sooo perfect even if we had to baby proof. our grand baby love it to he could go outside and not exscape. LOL
We will be back soon. We(I) have told my fellow employees that if they ever want a couples get away to check out your cottage.
Thank you for having us.
St. Joseph Peninsula State Park was America's #1-Beach, in 2002. Scalloping in the St. Joseph Bay is amazing!
Cape San Blas, located at the southernmost tip of Florida's Great Northwest, is home to the #1 beach in the continental United States! What's so special about Cape San Blas?•No amusement parks or hi-rise condos
•No cell phones, pagers, or alarm clocks
•Almost no cars......very few people
It's what you don't have (or want) that makes this place special. Cape San Blas is a get-away...away from the noise...away from the crowds...away from the busy schedules, the telephones, the responsibilities. After a week of enjoying the simplest of pleasures, it's hard to go home.
