A beautiful apartment, recently refurbished and modernized, cosy and comfortable with central heating situated on first floor of large country house. Lovely views onto parkland with mature trees and extensive garden. The accommodation consists of a large double room with wash hand basin, twin bedroom with wash hand basin. Galley type kitchen, fully equipped. Spacious shower room with wash hand basin and WC. Large sitting room with dining area at one end and open coal or log fire. The sitting room has large sunny windows facing south and onto gardens at the rear of the house. Guests have full use of immediate garden and also use of recently refurbished tennis court.

We had a wonderful stay with Mrs Buchanan Smith... The apartment is beautiful, very comfortable and the location is beautiful, peaceful and close to the city. Just loved it.

Beautiful family friendly holiday house

The house is beautiful and a lot bigger than we expected/perceived from the photos. We were worried about staying away over christmas with our two young children (2 & 4), but we needn't have worried, as the house had been beautifully decorated for Christmas. With a large real Christmas tree in the living room and additional Christmas decorations in the second bedroom.

Our stay was very relaxing and quiet in the remote location, but comforting knowing that the owners were close by if we needed anything.

We had some lovely days out, visiting the Christmas markets in Edinburgh, which were definitely worth the visit, and the Glasgow science centre, which all 4 of us loved, especially the kids.

For families with young children we would definitely recommend it, however we were surprised when we arrived that there were stairs (only 5) in the hallway between the kitchen and the bedroom. For us this was not an issue, as we brought with us a barrier stair gate (over 92cm) to stop the children charging up and down the stairs.

Overall we had a lovely stay and would definitely come back again. Thank you for making our stay so pleasant.

Lovely retreat from huzzle and buzzle

Helen`s and Jamie`s historic mansion is just beautiful ! It`s a bit off from Edinburgh city but can be reached easily by car or bus. However, we recommend to hire a car since it allows more flexibility. The rooms are spacious and are perfect for 4 persons. The new bath is also spacious and nicely decorated. A fireplace gives a touch of a romantic holiday ! Fully recommended & very nice proprietors !

A 'True Home Away from Home'

What a wonderful place to stay: comfortably fitted out with all the necessities to make your stay perfect. Each night we were abe to cook up a storm in the kitchen and sit in front of the TV after our meal, enjoying a peaceful night after the day's activities. Blissfully quiet, very clean, with great country side all around and yet so close to Edingburgh. The hosts Jamie and Helen are very helpful and knowledgable about the area. Their array of cute and funny family pets and the odd nervous squirrel made our holiday especially enjoyable. In fact, after getting to know and love the area due to the help of our hosts, we are pulling up stumps in Australia and moving to Scotland!! So, if you are looking for a wonderful place to stay, don't hesitate to book this fabulous apartment, but beware..you may never wish to leave.

Extremely Quiet and Beautiful Apartment

My family and I had a wonderful week staying at Cockburn House on the outskirts of Edinburgh.

Jamie and Helen, the owners, were welcoming, extremely friendly and helpful too.

Their apartment is at one end of their stunning Georgian house which is approached from a long driveway well away from any roads. Hence incredibly quiet!

The apartment is extremely spacious and clean. All the rooms are beautifully furnished and the kitchen is modern, clean and well stocked with everything you should need for cooking.

The beds and sofas were extremely comfortable too.

The apartment is in a great location. It is easy enough to get a local bus, taking 20 - 30 mins into the centre of Edinburgh. A day pass for using all buses in the city only costs £3.50! Using a car around the city didn`t seem to be problematic for us as well.

My teenage children loved their stay. Out of everything we did they enjoyed playing tennis on the court in the rear garden the most. Probably followed by using the Dry Ski Slopes at Hillend, only a 20 min drive away. Followed then by our games of putting ( mini golf ) at North Berwick. A beautiful unspoilt coastal town east of Edinburgh.

My daughter particularly loved stroking and talking to Jamie and Helen`s animals. Dogs, Donkies, chickens and pigs!!

Would we return? Absolutely. We all loved it and will certainly come back!

Lovely stay at a cosy place

We've had a great time, only to short. It's a cosy place with lovely hosts and very close to Edinburgh.

For sure we will recommend this apartment and we will come back too.
