A perfect retreat for your next get-away vacation!
All the amenities of home, but in a private, natural setting with beautiful views of Girl Lake.
Enjoy boating, fishing, swimming, skiing, and more on the Woman Lake Chain; one of Minnesota’s finest lake chains. Minutes to town, but located on a quiet dead-end road with huge pines and lots of wildlife.
Property is natural with 'no blade of grass,' but beautifully landscaped with perennials and a water feature to enhance the natural north woods beauty. There is a fire pit down by the lake to roast marshmallows and enjoy the cool (or hot!) summer nights.
The cabin is modern with gorgeous natural log accents and handmade log furniture. Living room and kitchen are open, exposing beautiful views of the woods and lake. Living room has a wood-burning cozy fireplace. Kitchen is fully stocked, ideal for those who like to cook. Enjoy lunches or dinners outside on our large deck, complete with outdoor furniture.
Sleeping arrangements are ideal for a large family or two or three couples. Loft is large and has queen bed and double bed. Main floor bedroom with a double/single bunk-bed is adjoined to main bath. Bathroom on the main floor has a large jacuzzi tub to relax after a long day on the lake. Finished basement has 3rd bedroom next to 3/4 bath.
Finished basement has a custom-built bar and pool table, as well as an entertainment center and sliding glass doors to walk-out patio.
Plenty of dock space for your own boat. Our lift will accommodate most runabouts. There are also plenty of options to rent a pontoon or fishing boat in town. Please inquire.
Lots of water sport options! Kids can enjoy swimming, as we have a sandy-bottom and a swimming raft. We have a canoe, stand-up paddleboard and kayak for use. The lake is perfect for boating, skiing, and fishing.
At the end of the day, the area down at the lake is quiet -- perfect for lounging or sipping cocktails and watching the sunset over the lake.
We love our cabin and are excited to share it with you!
We bought the lot in 1998 and gradually built our dream cabin. Both of us grew up in the Twin Cities, going 'north' to cabins and resorts every summer. We love the Minnesota north woods!
We now have two small children, so we aren't able to use the cabin as much as we would like, but are happy to share it with you!
Renita Van Dusen purchased this cabin in 1998
If you love the north woods, this place is for you. We don't believe in meticulously grooming a lawn. This isn't Lake Minnetonka! We do believe in keeping the property very natural, to make it feel like you are very secluded in the north woods, with the birds and trees all to yourself. BUT, we do appreciate a nice, cozy bed and air conditioning (only when absolutely necessary) and the comforts of home. We love cooking and have a well-stocked kitchen, ready for you to make it your own for a week.
The view is spectacular. Our lake home is very comfortable and a perfect place to get away, relax and enjoy. Whether it is reading and lounging on the dock, fishing from dawn to dusk, or taking a jacuzzi bath at the end of the day and cozying up to a fire in the fireplace, rest assured you will be relaxed and refreshed by the end of the week. You won't want to leave!
Another wonderful trip. The house provides everything one would need. Town is close enough if needed, but far enough you don't know it's there. Will be back.
Definitely "Northwoods" or at least the feeling of seclusion that you'd expect. Beautiful home in a beautiful setting on a very nice lake. The home had all the amenities that were listed and then some. About the only thing we missed from other rentals we've had was a powered/covered boat lift, and therefore power to the boat for charging and relieving the need to cover the boat every night due to inclement weather. There is a what I'd assume is a 4000lb manual boat lift available which was at least adequate, if not a workout! Ha! Other than that one small thing in the big picture this rental is any bit of 5 stars.
We came here for the fishing, and Woman Lake did not disappoint. Everyone in the family caught plenty of fish, and memories. Fishing off the dock on Girl Lake was plentiful for panfish, and even a few small Northerns. It became immediately evident that if Muskie is your fish, Girl is your lake. We're Walleye people, so we pretty much stuck to Woman Lake.
Longville is the closest town (minutes away), and has most of the necessities although at a fairly inflated price, which is on par for small isolated towns close to resorts. Come prepared. If you have children, don't miss out on the turtle races in Longville on Wednesdays, and a stop at Frosty's is a must. Beyond that Walker is a short 30 minute drive away, and was a very enjoyable afternoon of shopping for all when the fishing shut down for a while. Reeds Outfitters was awesome and had a very knowledgeable and friendly staff who were more than happy to chat.
All in all... great rental, professional owners, beautiful environment.
No complaints here, house was great. Nice people to deal with. Would go back again. Kitchen was stocked with everything needed. Loved that
Love, love, love this vacation rental!!!!!!!!!! Pictures are very accurate as to how the place actually looks! The home is very well stocked with top of the line features and we felt right at home from the moment we stepped foot inside. The decor is amazing, comfortable, and felt brand new!! It was wonderful to wake up and then call it a day with the amazing views from this home! The location exceeded our expectations! We really enjoyed the pontoon boat we chose to rent from the owners and as we became more familiar with the lake and surrounding lakes that you also have access to....Blackwater Bay and Woman Lake..........our daily exploration and fishing ventures were a highlight for my husband, myself and my father-in-law.!!!!
I cannot thank Renitta and Jim for their hospitality in answering questions, giving us tips on local activities from the turtle races every Wednesday in the summers to all that the quaint and charming town of Longville has to offer. They even gave us recommendations and web links for surrounding area restaurants and activities. We fell in love with the entire area!!!!!!!
The location to town was so convenient and even though we felt entilrely surrounded by nautre while at our "getaway retreat", in reality it was a short (3-4 minute) drive. One day we even enjoyed a quick pontoon boat trip to Patricks Restaurant for an enjoyable lunch.
We are already looking ahead to a return trip with our grown children and their families!!!!!
My husband and I would highly recommend this property.....as long as it doesn't conflict with our next rental dates!!!!!!!!!!!!
... it would be just like this!
My husband, myself and three grown children thoroughly enjoyed our week here!
The cabin is beautiful and spacious. I loved preparing food on the kitchen island, overlooking the lake while listening to music via the surround sound that is throughout the cabin! The beds were comfortable with plenty of blankets and pillows. The flat screen t.v., pool table, and "lightening fast" internet were very much appreciated on a rainy day! The cabin is also supplied with lots of games and books for all ages. We also enjoyed the fire pit (wood was supplied!) in the evenings and the canoe most afternoons.
We like to both run and cycle..... Glenmar Drive (right off Fairall Rd.) is a quiet, scenic, dirt road that you can easily get a 6 plus mile, out and back run on, without fighting traffic. County Road 5 between Longville and Hackensack is a designated bike route and the shoulder is nice and wide. It is an 18 mile ride to Hackensack (from the Common Grounds parking lot in Longville) where you can pick up the Paul Bunyan Trail... you can ride forever if you like!
I'd definitely recommend a trip to Hackensack for Thai food (yes, Thai food!) at Udom's. The Pad Thai is outstanding! For pizza, Anchorage Inn (Lake Inguadona) has awesome pizza!
Renita and Jim were extremely easy to work with and were very helpful with all of our questions before, during and after our stay.
We felt right at home here and I would certainly recommend this property for a nice, relaxing "Get-a-way"!
My wife, 2 year-old daughter, and golden lab spent a fun and relaxing 1 week vacation here and have nothing but great things to say about the house and dealing with Jim and Renita. The entire house was top-notch and extremely clean throughout. Everything we read in the description and saw in the pictures was very accuate and there were no surpises - if anything, most things were better than expected and even nicer than they appear in the pictures. The lake was very clean and fairly quiet during our stay which was nice and we enjoyed using their pontoon that we rented most days to boat around Girl Lake as well as much of the connected Woman Lake Chain. We felt right at home in the kitchen and it was equipped with everything you needed to do your own cooking. We also had a great lunch in town at Patrick's (right on Girl Lake) as well as a couple wonderful dinners out at the Anchorage Inn (some of the best pizza we'd had in quite some time) right on the shores of Lake Inguadona (maybe a 10 minute drive away) and Chase on the Lake in Walker (an easy 25-30 minute drive). We loved the overall privacy of the lot, the dock where we were able to catch quite a few panfish, the great bar and pool table area in walk-out lower level, and the beatifully furnished main-floor bathroom and whirl pool tub. I think the only negative aspect of our experience that week was that the mosquitos seemed worse than we've experienced during many previous vacations in northen MN (could have simply been the time of year or a result of the late/wet spring), so a screened in porch would have been an ideal way to get more enjoyment from the beatiful, natural surroundings. The choices out there for a northern MN vacation where you can bring your dog are also fairly limited, and this was probably the best place we've found that allowed us to do so. All in all, we fully enjoyed our time here, can't say enough great things about the place, and would love to return again for a future vacation!
Surrounded by lakes and forests, Longville, Minnesota has been a popular vacation destination for many years. Located in North Central Minnesota, the area provides some of the best fishing, boating, water sports, hiking and biking in the summer and fall and cross country skiing, ice fishing, and snowmobiling in the winter and spring. Nowhere is there more diversity of scenery and recreational events and activities as there is in the Longville Lakes area.
Longville is famous for its Turtle Races! Every Wednesday afternoon from June through late August, swimming beaches go strangely quiet; cabins, motels, cottages and resorts empty out; and streams of cars descend on the little town of Longville on the shores of Girl Lake to race turtles.
