About this property

Luxury House (for 4) Ayamonte historic center-golf, beach, walks, tapas, sunsets

This lovely and unique property was re-built in 2007 from the ground up... and is in the historic center of Ayamonte...

HOME'S HISTORY: Originally believed to be a fisherman's family townhome centered right in the heart of the 'centro historico' of Ayamonte. A few minutes walk from the Plaza de la Laguna (one of three town squares, bustling with cafes, restaurants and shopping). Our 2 bedroom house overlooks the river that divides Spain from Portugal - and immediately behind where fishing boats used to land their catch back in the day. Nowadays it's typically a very peaceful part of the town as industry has moved to business parks out of town.

This 2 bedroom / 4 person home now boasts some fabulous touches, modernity and convenience all hidden behind a custom built solid hardwood door.

The area is very family-friendly and typically very safe. You'll be amidst locals in the immediate neighborhood and just a couple of minutes walk from the nearest bar or restaurant, or even grocery store or pharmacy... and, if Spain wasn't good enough for you, then head over to Portugal - where they are an hour behind Spain, so extra drinking or eating time if you've timed it all wrong!

ON ENTERING OUR HOME: There's a bright, spacious hall with stair case leading to the upper floor, or drop down a couple of steps as the home then opens up on the ground-floor. Marble flooring throughout and fresh white walls adding to the cool, calm feel of the place.

Local, quality art throughout, and finished to a very high standard. This is a modern, individually designed architect styled home, and comes with everything you want for a turn-key get-away.

THE HOUSE COMPRISES: Main living on ground-floor, approx 95 square metres, with laundry and two-tier terrace on first-floor, approx 70 square metres.

- Master bedroom (off to the left of the galley kitchen). Queen size bed and luxury en-suite with rain shower, bidet, toilet and basin. (The guest bathroom also has a rain shower!)
- Galley kitchen with everything you need, with small dining table and two chairs.
- 'Great room' has 14 foot ceiling and is a magnificent space to gather!
- Air conditioning (heating and cooling) to 3 main areas of the home (the house temperature stays surprisingly constant inside even without running the units, but that's up to you).
- Guest bedroom area is the 'other half' of what we call the 'great room', and whilst it is NOT a private room as such, the sleeping arrangement is by means of a queen sized pull-out sofa bed - and is very comfortable and can be very pleasant for 2 adults.
- Guest showroom, with rain shower.
- Laundry room.
- Two terraces, sheltered, small lower terrace and a vast upper terrace, with fabulous views.

MORE ABOUT THE FACILITIES: The great room itself offers fantastic height in the ceiling and exceptional natural light. The lounge area has seating for 4 people, a BOSE surround sound system and 32" TV / Satellite / Terrestrial antenna programming and DVD player too.

Our kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, microwave, oven, ceramic hob, kettle, toaster and Nespresso coffee maker and all pots, pans, cutlery, trays, etc. A small fridge is also present. We find that most of our eating is always done outdoors on the terrace, either on the lower or upper (main) terrace utilizing the patio table with 4 chairs or the built-in seating bench... but the choice is yours, in or out!

Upstairs on the upper terrace you'll also find a dedicated laundry room with modern washer and very effective dryer too, iron and ironing board, and a sink with hot and cold water.

All bedding and towels and utensils are provided.

Our home was custom designed by a prominent London architect who relocated to the local area some years ago, making a beautiful space and place we love to share with others these days. Waking up to the smell of the fresh air or watching the sunset go down over Portugal across the River Guadiana is perfection in itself from the beautiful two-tier terrace which is also private and sheltered, and is nicely lit at night, has power outlets and a built in seating space too.

Beautiful lighting inside and out, along with high quality furnishings and appliances - it all makes for a place you'll want to come back to again, and again.

LOCATION: Ayamonte is known for several things, apart from being a fairly well kept secret from many tourists agendas to-date, and regardless of whether you're interested in Spain or Portugal or both; it's the proximity to world class golf courses, fabulous beaches, shopping, excellent sea food, rides out into the hills and countryside, or maybe even sailing or something as simple as enjoying the relaxed way of living that makes this a wonderful place to experience.

AIRPORTS: Faro, Portugal or Sevilla, Spain are both within about 1 hour or a 90 min drive respectively and are serviced well by many airlines.

Please enjoy our home-from-home, let this be your sanctuary and private retreat space, tucked away from the madding crowd whilst in the Ayamonte area.

Fabulous River Views and Cool Interior
The interior has very high ceilings and is essentially all on one floor down a few steps as you walk in. There is lot of natural light from very clever skylights. The bed and sofas are super comfortable and the bathrooms excellent with a great shower in the ensuite - we never needed to use the other shower. The kitchen is well equipped and the aircon very efficient. The location is 5 minutes walk from the multitude of restaurants in Ayamonte and the ferry to Portugal. The views from the terrace are fabulous and you can watch the sunset over Portugal from there. There was shade in the morning and afternoon on the terrace. The terrace furniture is as you see in the photos and there are some sun lounger cushions to use on the built in bench. We loved this property , felt safe there and totally enjoyed immersing ourselves in town life in Ayamonte, also using the bikes provided to cycle to the beach along the boardwalk outside and the cycle path all the way to the beach. There is also a very cheap hourly bus service from near the tourist office by the Marina to the beach and Punta Moral. We enjoyed eating at Meson Plumas, Vintage, La Casona (advisable to book especially if you want the terrace) and La Coretada - but there are a multitude of restaurants to try. Laguna square is very picturesque for breakfast, drinks, eating and soaking up the atmosphere. We also enjoyed the walk to the Parador for a drink from their terrace.

Born in the UK, and left the country at age 30... married an American, and moved our lives from Italy and the UK to Germany. Worked and lived there for a number of years, until we moved to Belgium where we lived and worked for a few more. Frequent trips were made to our Ayamonte home which we adore. Now in America for a while until the next adventure pops up!

Why they chose this property

Who wouldn't want a home in the historic center, on a nice, friendly street, with views that are just some of the best in the area if the opportunity arose?...

Both Ayamonte and surrounding areas are just so charming and still somewhat unspoiled. Portugal is perhaps a little more geared for tourism as they speak English more readily if foreign languages aren't your thing, but, either way, the area is fantastic.

Why choose our home to stay? Because you're unique, and so is our home. It's a unique design and custom built unlike any other - it's a private home, that's been equipped as a home not as a rental investment, and it's just adorable. Once you've seen the old town of Ayamonte, walked its streets, sipped its coffee or a small cold beer, enjoyed a few glasses of red wine and food... sea food of course... you'll be hooked and you'll know why - there's plenty of places to rent out there, there's plenty of generic pools to look out over too, but there's nothing quite like our home and it's view.

The home itself was when we got it, somewhat neglected and run down; in need of major renovation up until the early 2000's - you'd not recognize it today from back then at all... It was a near full demolition - the only remaining original parts being three walls. Now it's bright, airy, and a haven to use as a location to go explore from, or just shut yourself away and simply stare out over the river at Portugal any time of the day or night!

What makes this property unique

The home is close to everything - what more could you ask for? You don't need a taxi to bring you back home after a few drinks... that's a big bonus; and you're not going to run out of fabulous, inexpensive places to eat either... whilst we have a full kitchen to cook and all utensils to go with - we bet you'll never use the kitchen during your stay! Why? Because food is so darn good you'll find it hard to talk yourself into doing anything but sample the local offerings!
