This lovely and unique property was re-built in 2007 from the ground up... and is in the historic center of Ayamonte...
HOME'S HISTORY: Originally believed to be a fisherman's family townhome centered right in the heart of the 'centro historico' of Ayamonte. A few minutes walk from the Plaza de la Laguna (one of three town squares, bustling with cafes, restaurants and shopping). Our 2 bedroom house overlooks the river that divides Spain from Portugal - and immediately behind where fishing boats used to land their catch back in the day. Nowadays it's typically a very peaceful part of the town as industry has moved to business parks out of town.
This 2 bedroom / 4 person home now boasts some fabulous touches, modernity and convenience all hidden behind a custom built solid hardwood door.
The area is very family-friendly and typically very safe. You'll be amidst locals in the immediate neighborhood and just a couple of minutes walk from the nearest bar or restaurant, or even grocery store or pharmacy... and, if Spain wasn't good enough for you, then head over to Portugal - where they are an hour behind Spain, so extra drinking or eating time if you've timed it all wrong!
ON ENTERING OUR HOME: There's a bright, spacious hall with stair case leading to the upper floor, or drop down a couple of steps as the home then opens up on the ground-floor. Marble flooring throughout and fresh white walls adding to the cool, calm feel of the place.
Local, quality art throughout, and finished to a very high standard. This is a modern, individually designed architect styled home, and comes with everything you want for a turn-key get-away.
THE HOUSE COMPRISES: Main living on ground-floor, approx 95 square metres, with laundry and two-tier terrace on first-floor, approx 70 square metres.
- Master bedroom (off to the left of the galley kitchen). Queen size bed and luxury en-suite with rain shower, bidet, toilet and basin. (The guest bathroom also has a rain shower!)
- Galley kitchen with everything you need, with small dining table and two chairs.
- 'Great room' has 14 foot ceiling and is a magnificent space to gather!
- Air conditioning (heating and cooling) to 3 main areas of the home (the house temperature stays surprisingly constant inside even without running the units, but that's up to you).
- Guest bedroom area is the 'other half' of what we call the 'great room', and whilst it is NOT a private room as such, the sleeping arrangement is by means of a queen sized pull-out sofa bed - and is very comfortable and can be very pleasant for 2 adults.
- Guest showroom, with rain shower.
- Laundry room.
- Two terraces, sheltered, small lower terrace and a vast upper terrace, with fabulous views.
MORE ABOUT THE FACILITIES: The great room itself offers fantastic height in the ceiling and exceptional natural light. The lounge area has seating for 4 people, a BOSE surround sound system and 32" TV / Satellite / Terrestrial antenna programming and DVD player too.
Our kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, microwave, oven, ceramic hob, kettle, toaster and Nespresso coffee maker and all pots, pans, cutlery, trays, etc. A small fridge is also present. We find that most of our eating is always done outdoors on the terrace, either on the lower or upper (main) terrace utilizing the patio table with 4 chairs or the built-in seating bench... but the choice is yours, in or out!
Upstairs on the upper terrace you'll also find a dedicated laundry room with modern washer and very effective dryer too, iron and ironing board, and a sink with hot and cold water.
All bedding and towels and utensils are provided.
Our home was custom designed by a prominent London architect who relocated to the local area some years ago, making a beautiful space and place we love to share with others these days. Waking up to the smell of the fresh air or watching the sunset go down over Portugal across the River Guadiana is perfection in itself from the beautiful two-tier terrace which is also private and sheltered, and is nicely lit at night, has power outlets and a built in seating space too.
Beautiful lighting inside and out, along with high quality furnishings and appliances - it all makes for a place you'll want to come back to again, and again.
LOCATION: Ayamonte is known for several things, apart from being a fairly well kept secret from many tourists agendas to-date, and regardless of whether you're interested in Spain or Portugal or both; it's the proximity to world class golf courses, fabulous beaches, shopping, excellent sea food, rides out into the hills and countryside, or maybe even sailing or something as simple as enjoying the relaxed way of living that makes this a wonderful place to experience.
AIRPORTS: Faro, Portugal or Sevilla, Spain are both within about 1 hour or a 90 min drive respectively and are serviced well by many airlines.
Please enjoy our home-from-home, let this be your sanctuary and private retreat space, tucked away from the madding crowd whilst in the Ayamonte area.
