About the property

A Comfortable Camping Experience In The Wilderness For The Whole Family

Our Days Available calendars are updated every morning. Please check our main website (links are above the 'Photos' section near the bottom of this page) for more details and images of our three beautiful and unique vacation rentals.

Anasazi Glamping Cabin is located within the only twenty mile long gated box canyon in the Chama Wilderness. The cabin includes a completely equipped and carpeted kitchen, living room, and dining area under a 20x30 foot roof. The cabin has cold running spring water, table, chairs, cooking stove, refrigerator, pots, pans, tableware, propane barbecue, and propane fire pit bowl.

The rental is located on the site of an early 1900s homestead and is one of three vacation rentals we have in the canyon, with Ranch Wilderness Casita and Remote Wilderness Casita.

Unique at your camp site is a 1,000 gallon soaking pool nestled inside an earthen and rock open-air water storage area which was originally built by the ancient Anasazi Indians, with a breathtaking view of the canyon's 1,700-foot red sand stone walls. The pool is fed with continuously flowing cool spring water.

Gallina Canyon Ranch has been featured in many national and regional magazines, including New Mexico magazine, The Santa Fean, Better Homes and Gardens, Sunset, and Martha Stewart Living.

On rare days when heavy rain makes the road too muddy to travel, we will take you to the camp and leave with you our mud-friendly truck with tire chains for emergency use.

The specially designed protected play area for your children is at the ranch. You may walk or drive. At the ranch is the community swimming pond, inflatable kayaks, floating trampoline, Slither (a 17-foot water park floating snake on which children can sit, stand, and walk), floating arm chairs, boogie board, and a sand box with children's toys. The Gallina River runs right by this area where children love to play in the mud. We supply towels. Not far from the pond is the ranch playground with swings, rotating teeter totter, jungle gym, horizontal bar, hanging merry-go-round, donkey cart, pioneer wagon, grape arbor, and chairs. WiFi is available in these areas.

About Elizabeth

Elizabeth is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area. Andrew is from Grand Rapids Michigan. In 1977 we bought the homestead complete with cows. We grew specialty organic produce for restaurants in Santa Fe, Taos, and Albuquerque for fifteen years.

David is from the Los Angeles area. He came to the ranch in 2002. He is our caretaker, and webmaster.

The ranch is featured in many magazines, such as Martha Stewart, Better Homes and Gardens, Sunset, Gourmet, Saveur, Country Home, Bon Appetit, Wine Spectator, Horticulture, Countryside, Country Living Gardener, Santa Fe Wine and Chile Fiesta, Rocky Mountain Gardening, New Mexico, The Santa Fean, Santa Fe Reporter, The Good Cook, Exotic Beans, Southwest Passages, Fine Cooking, Denver Post, Los Angeles Times, and New York Times.

One of us will check you in and out. If you need anything during your stay, feel free to ask any one of us.

Elizabeth purchased this cabin in 1977

Why Elizabeth chose New Mexico

We chose this ranch because the beauty and the seclusion of this canyon is unique; it is like having our own mini Grand Canyon--- the same Northern New Mexico beauty that awed and inspired the artist Georgia O'Keeffe.

What makes this cabin unique

Family Camp includes for your summer enjoyment a 1,000 gallon soaking pool that is continuously fed from a fresh water spring, and includes a table and chairs for use inside the pool. The overflow from the tank attracts a many species of birds, which makes the pool area a bird watcher's dream. The pool is nestled inside an earthen and rock 1900s homestead open-air water storage tank. Mosquitoes are not a problem in Gallina Canyon. With a spectacular view during the day and awe-inspiring panorama of stars at night, the pool area is a great place to enjoy the sights and sound of the canyon. Bring a star map and toast marshmallows we provide over the propane fire pit bowl, then lay back in the provided 'gravity chairs' and watch for meteors streaking across the velvet black sky.

The glamping cabin is the perfect wilderness experience for two families to camp together , corporate get-together, and group camping: please email if you are looking for a group camp site.

Anasazi Wilderness Glamping Cabin

One of the most remarkable, scenic places that I have ever visited

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful scenic setting in a red rock walled canyon, things to explore in a number of directions. The lodging situation was even better than I had surmised from the web. The campers are modern and the beds are new and comfortable; the cooking facilities are very handy; cooking gear, utensils, etc. are all there; the outhouse has a view and is well ventilated. And a shower at the end of a hard day hiking is so very welcome. It's not really a cabin, it's not really camping - it's glamping! If I could give 6 stars I would. All in a wilderness that looks more like the canyon country of Utah than what I expect in New Mexico. Well worth a visit!

Peaceful Canyon

  • 5 of 5

This was our second year to visit the Anasazi Wilderness Cabin, and this visit was even more delightful than our first. The cabin is in a setting that cannot be duplicated, in one of those stunningly beautiful New Mexico canyons where the picture changes all day long with the movement of the sun. It is miles away from the highway with nothing to disturb the peace and quiet of nature. We love to photograph, walk, paint, read, and just enjoy listening to the birds and the breeze through the forest. Depending on the weather, you may hear the Gallina River rolling along nearby or even see an arroyo which opens onto the cliff across the river suddenly start to gush water as it drains its collected rainfall. In the evenings, as the canyon darkens, the bats swoop in to feed; their completely silent airborne acrobatics are amazing to watch. The actual "cabin" is so well-designed that it functions as well as a home. Sleeping is cozy and comfortable, the outdoor shower--with hot water--is fantastic, and the outhouse has the world's best view. The kitchen is well equipped and, in season, lovingly furnished with delicious home-grown veggies and eggs with the most beautiful yellow yolks you will ever see. The owners/staff are always friendly and helpful, as well as full of information about the area. We leave the canyon planning when we will be able to get back to visit again.

Quiet Serenity

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the campsite really couldn't have been better. The spot that was chosen and the New Mexico landscape was breathtaking! I have lived in Colorado for 35 plus years and can highly recommend this spot! We never met Elizabeth, but her husband (great guy but forget his name!!!) was extremely accommodating and provided us with a rich history of their wonderful property. We brought 2 dogs which loved the area to explore. Just be a little careful with some common encounters with some local critters. My Girlfriend saw 4 Elk on her hike and we never felt threatened by any other wildlife. If you want a remote getaway with solar powered lights and shower, fresh and drinkable spring water, and the most beautiful nights you may ever see, visit this canyon!

What are you waiting for...

  • 5 of 5

As busy restaurant owners, my wife and I needed a true retreat from long hours and a very public lifestyle. We found one here! This property stands alone in the region and perhaps the state. Elizabeth and Andrew couldn't have been greater hosts. They provided delicious produce and eggs from their garden (heirloom tomatoes had just come in).

As for the beauty and the solitude, I will sum it all up by saying that our stay both at the ranch casita and the glamping site, as well as hiking their pristine land, revitalized both our energy for our business and AND our relationship! Cheers to Elizabeth and Andrew

We really enjoyed our stay at the Anasazi cabin the solitude was just what we needed! We thoroughly enjoyed the beauty and peaceful surroundings, and on our hikes we saw deer, wild turkeys and jack rabbits. Our dog had a blast roaming and exploring. The shark tank was a welcomed relief in the afternoon it was so lovely to cool off in fresh spring water. We hope to visit again!!
