About the property

In the heart of one of Madrid's most coveted areas for authentic local living.

This beautiful apartment is located in Barrio de Salamanca, Madrid’s most upscale neighborhood. The two bedrooms apartment is on the 9th floor with lots of light and sunshine. All rooms are exterior and face a balcony/ terrace with un-obstructive views of Madrid. The terrace, which runs along the entire apartment, is a perfect place to enjoy your coffee in the morning, or a drink and conversation any time of day or night.

The building has two entrances from two different streets. The front entrance has greenery that leads up to the building, and various restaurants (one of the best seafood restaurants in town complete with a beautiful terrace with fireplace for cooler nights), a big cafeteria serving breakfast, lunch and dinner with a big outdoor terrace, and bar/pub, as well as a popular fitness center, dry cleaner and hair salon/spa. You don’t need to go very far to enjoy all the amenities the building has to offer!

The back entrance is amidst a lovely park with swings and slides for the enjoyment of children, and more bars and coffee shops to relax for adults.

Across the street there is a nice drugstore (“Perfumeria”) as well as a supermarket for all your daily needs and another 24 hrs supermarket in case you need something after hours. On the same street in a block radius you would find a deli, fruit/vegetable shops, bakery, butcher/fish market, flower shop and boutiques. The perpendicular streets are also filled with additional terraces where you can enjoy food, and drink until late hours of the night, or as Spaniards would have it, early hours of the morning. This is especially true in late spring through the fall, weather permitting.

The building has four concierges covering shifts from early morning until 10 pm at night including week-ends. It has 2 elevators plus 2 service lifts. The neighborhood is friendly and safe, and you will see people walking or enjoying what the outdoor establishments have to offer until very late. You will be in the midst of Spanish day and night life!

The location is ideally communicated with at least 5 or 6 metro lines and buses to take you all around Madrid and surroundings. The metro (subway) connect with the two major train stations North and South where you can go in the high speed AVE train to any city in Spain and beyond.

The apartment is surrounded by four major hospitals which makes it very convenient for families coming for medical reasons. Most of the embassies are located in Barrio de Salamanca including the American Embassy, Italian, Swiss, and Belgium among others, all walking distance from the apartment. Deusto Business School (Universidad Deusto), and the Fundacion Juan March Art Museum, Concert and Shows Avenue is also a 5/10 minutes stroll from the apartment. IE Business School is not too far away.

APARTMENT description

The kitchen is compact and efficient, with all the modern conveniences of a big two door refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, and washer, vitroceramic range and full oven. There are plenty of cabinets for storage for dishes, cutlery pots and pans which are all provided.

The Livingroom and dining area has larger windows with plenty of light and the doorway to the terrace. The sofa turns into a double bed. There is a big TV, as well as dining table and chairs.

The bedrooms and bathroom can be closed off with a door, for privacy and to minimize noise. Both bedrooms have wall to wall fitted wardrobes with plenty of space for storage. The master bedroom has two twin beds. These can easily be converted into a King sized bed for a couple by simply adding a special wedge I provide for you at your request.

The second bedroom has a daybed with a popup trundle. There is also a desk so this room can double as an office space. The entire apartment is equipped with fiber optic WiFi and TV.

The bathroom has just been fully renovated with walk-in shower, new sink, mirror and light features.

This apartment has been in my family for many decades, and we have enjoyed many memorable times together with family and friends. I hope it can be your home away from home and enjoy it whether you’re single or with family!

About Barrio de Salamanca

SALAMANCA is Madrid’s most upscale neighborhood. Let’s call it Madrid’s “Upper East Side” with the best restaurants, all the designer’s shops in the Golden Mile (Ortega y Gasset, Velazques, Claudio Coello and Serrano Streets) which is a 5/10 minutes’ walk from the house, lounge bars and all that you can need! It is also a very traditional neighborhood of Madrid, where you can still feel how Madrid was years ago. However, chick nightclubs and lounges aside, you will also be pleasantly surprised to find many hidden gems. After all, Salamanca is a neighborhood where people live in, and they too have mom and pop shops and friendly bars.

Many professionals coming to Madrid choose Salamanca as it is authentic, very secure, well connected to the city center and to Madrid’s business district, full of bars, restaurants, art and architecture, and that the quality of the housing and of the streets is really superior to the kind of housing quality you can find in the city center.

About Rosa Cespedes

I am from Madrid but live in between Spain and Florida throughout the year. My family has been coming to visit Madrid and Marbella for the holidays for many years and we love Madrid, as well as the Estepona/Marbella area. They both have such different atmospheres to offer. Living between Spain and Florida is the best of both worlds and I hope that you feel just as comfortable when you come and have your holidays in our home!

I've lived internationally for 30 years and I love to travel and meet people from all over the world. I spent many years in Abu Dhabi and my greatest memory is all the friendships I was able to make from that time that has left me with friends all over the world.

Why Rosa Cespedes chose Lista

My sister and I moved here when they first finished the building many years ago and it has been in the family ever since. Lots of wonderful memories!.

What sold the apartment to me was the light and the terrace. Salamanca is an old neighborhood and we saw many interior apartment with no views or light. It was also great to find an apartment with the space and distribution of a bigger flat.

We love the area, even for two young girls was and it is very safe.

All my favorites boutiques, shops are here, and also my favorites restaurants. Retiro Park and Museums are close by.

I also love how well connected it is; metro, buses, taxi stops all around the apartment.

It is an authentic neighborhood full of life. All the little shop owners or even the staff at the cafeteria downstairs from the apartment know me and greet me no matter how long it has been since I last saw them. Such a nice feeling!.

The park in the back was a life saver when my children were small. They could have fun and me too, socializing with other parents with children while having a drink and tapas.

I love to walk through the neighborhood, window shopping or just sitting in a terrace with a coffee or drink while watching people passing by. No matter how late in the evening is super-safe even for a single woman to walk through the neighborhood.

What makes this apartment unique

I recommend my Apartment if you like me:

– prefer to live in a more upscale and exclusive part of Madrid, close to the center, but not right in the middle of the hassle and noisy touristic area.

- You want to be close to the best restaurants, bars, coffee shops, open dining terraces high quality shops, all around the apartment and some on them in the same building where the apartment is located.

- you have children and need an outdoor area for them to play. There is a park in the back with direct access from the building and an outdoor café/bar where parents can enjoy some tapas/lunch while watching the children play.

This was great for me while my children were small.

-need to be close to 4 major hospitals for medical reasons or close to the business district or Embassies

Want to be close to metro stations, buses and taxis

A nice apartment. The kitchen and bathroom are brand new and well equipped. The location is within one of the best neighbourhoods in Madrid. Lots of restaurants and very safe. Outstanding! Rosa is the best, and the apartment is excellent

Rosa was responsive and communicative since the day we reserved the apartment. She always had plenty of information and guidance. Great information on the local bars and restaurants. She helped out my wife with lost luggage on Iberia airlines. The apartment was spotless, clean, modern, and had all the space for 5 people. Full compliment of kitchen items and some complimentary food items. Location was quiet, but still near numerous clubs, bars, restaurants, shopping, and metro. To top it off was an absolutely stunning balcony: great views, lots of sun, plenty of room, and well equipped. We spent so much time eating, drinking, talking, and, yes, napping (siesta) on the balcony. Thanks Rosa!

Great apartment, great host

Loved staying at Rosa's place. Very nice apartment and she is the nicest host. Keep in mind that you are not in the center of Madrid but in the barrio of Salamanca. Easy to get to center using public transportation. And the Salamanca area is great for shopping.

I only want to remark that Barrio de Salamanca is Madrid center. It would be like New York Upper East Side , Soho ect all in Manhattan just in different part of the city. Any time Isabel and her lovely family decide to come back to Madrid we will be waiting with open arms.

Excellent apartment in fabulous neighborhood

We had a delightful stay in Rosa’s apartment for most of the month of May. The location of the apartment could not have been better: 3 grocery stores within a block; a bakery and restaurant downstairs in the same building; a myriad of other dining choices close by; and easy access to a taxi stand, a newspaper kiosk, and the metro. The building has a big lobby and is staffed all day. The apartment itself is nicely furnished and comfortable with ample storage and a beautiful terrace with views of the city’s roof tops. The television is cable equipped and offers many channels. The clothes washer works well. The kitchen is well equipped and has a big refrigerator. The fans and air conditioner kept us cool on hundred degree days. Rosa is a very attentive hostess. I highly recommend the apartment.

Great place in a "quaint" neighborhood

It was my second time to Madrid and we didn't want to stay in the normal hotel with all the other tourists. Rosa's place was great! Close to lots of good restaurants, shopping, grocery stores and walking distance to the El Retiro park — if walking isn't your thing, we could always catch a cab right outside the apartment. The best part is you are close to all the attractions, but embedded in a neighborhood, so you get to experience "real" Madrid rather than being planted amongst all the other tourists.

Rosa was super responsive and had everything laid out for us when we arrived — plenty of towels, wifi, tv, full kitchen, washer... even juice, milk, coffee, and pastries! It's on the top floor and has a cute balcony which overlooks parts of Madrid. At night it's fairly quiet too — other places I've been in Spain can have the noise of people coming and going from the bars all night, but the loudest thing we heard was the trash being picked up (:

All in all a painless and pleasant stay and I would highly recommend to anyone thinking of going to Madrid.

Perfect apartment in the perfect location

We are 2 girls visiting from the USA. I was looking for a quite, safe place to stay . I originally contacted Rosa because I had a lots of questions. She was very accomodating and answered all my concerns and shared with me that the place had a concierge all day which was very important to us. The place is very beautiful. The furniture looks brand new and the apartment is super clean with a lots of light. It is close to subway stations and buses to take us around Madrid. I highly recommend this appartment if you are visiting Madrid and Rosa was pleasure to work with.

Car: not necessary

There are lots of restaurants, cafeterias and bars around the apartment starting right at the apartment’s door step, literally. Cafeteria, Bakery and Restaurant La Flecha has very good food for a good price. Highly recommended their daily lunch menu where you can choose 3 course lunch with a choice of 5 dishes for starters (which are not appetizers since it can include paella) and another 5 to choose from for entrées plus 10 for dessert all for 12 euros including drink ( wine, beer or soft drink) and fresh bread. Try their chocolate con churros or porras ( thicker churros) for breakfast. The service is good and fast. Across the street by the Church´s plaza you will find Parelli small bakery with (homemade) delicious pastry. They also have a small menu for lunch that you can eat in, or takeaway for about 7/8 euros.

In the same building where the apartment is located at the front entrance you can find one of the best seafood restaurants in Madrid “Marisqueria Norte Sur”. It has a very pleasant open terrace with fireplace and since the whole terrace can be enclosed in with glass doors, it can be enjoyed all year round. Adjacent to the restaurant is a gourmet shop where besides having a nice selection of products and wine, they make a delicious artisanal bread. They also offer home delivery. Actually all the delis, fruit and vegetable, and meat and seafood shops around the apartment offer home delivery.

A new place I have discovered last summer, in case you don’t feel like cooking, is Lorena in calle Conde de Penalver 78, two small blocks from the apartment. Lorena is a patisserie that also offer a daily menu with the option of takeaway for 10 euros, very nice homemade cooking.

Behind the apartment by the park with direct access from the building, there is a small bar/restaurant that offer tapas and the daily menu with good selection of first courses and entrées for 9.90 euros. If the weather allows it they have a big open terrace in the park.

The daily menu (menu del dia) is offered in most places around the city and is your best deal to eat a wholesome meal for an excellent price. If you are watching your budget, the best choice is the daily menu for lunch and tapas at night.

Juan Bravo Boulevard is full of outdoor terrazas with a big selection of food from Francisco Silvela all the way to Serrano Street.

In Conde de Peñalver, 86 you can find one of my favorites restaurants: Cañadio an elegant restaurant featuring food from Santander (Cantabric Sea). Here last summer I tasted a very simple but delicious dish called “Huevos Homenaje”. They are poached eggs with a special and very tasty mushroom called Boletus and truffles. This restaurant is more expensive but for lunch they offer the “dish of the day” that changes every day of the week for 10,50 euros. I suggest to make dinner reservation since it is always full. In Jose Otega y Gasset between General Pardiñas and Diaz Polier there is another very good little restaurant for tapas La Tierruca. Try the delicious crispy eggplant drizzle with a special honey.

As you leave the apartment building make a left on General Pardiñas towards Maria de Molina. As soon as you cross Maldonado Street to your right you would find a well assorted supermarket with fresh fruit, vegetables, fresh fish and meat.

In calle Velazquez again many, many restaurants. One of my favorites there is Lateral, featuring a lovely terrace, but don´t be disappointed if all the tables are taken because the restaurant inside is very pleasant and the service is excellent. Another excellent restaurant is La Maruca almost across the street also from Santander (Cantabric cuisine). El Gordo another very good traditional high quality Spanish food restaurant located also in Velazquez. Next to Lateral is Mallorca cafeteria, bakery and a huge selection of ready to go food. Excellent quality.

In Velazquez towards Puerta Alcala corner with Hotel Wellington you would find Jorge Juan Street the new high end gourmet experience with too many restaurants and shops to mention. My guests have recommended La Cocina de Maria Luis Jorge Juan 42 and La Paloma Jorge Juan 39. New in the block is La Bien Aparecida (Virgen Patron of Santander) Jorge Juan 6. Same owners than Canadio and La Maruca. In the more economical side Babalia Café just opened in Callejon Pigcerda 6 also in Jorge Juan. It is open from breakfast all the way to cocktails at night in its lounge/bar area.

For high quality and designer shops walk through the Milla de Oro or the Golden Mile starting at Plaza del Marques Salamanca (the founder of the Barrio) in Jose Ortega y Gasset, two blocks from the apartment, and continue until Calle de Serrano. You will end up facing Corte Ingles Department store. You can continue through Serrano Street towards Goya where you find high quality store and restaurants and one of the best Zara clothing stores.........
