About Tammy Henderson
Our names are Steve and Tammy Henderson. We live and raise cattle, chickens (for eggs), apples and a garden on this 40 acre farm. Steve also works away from the farm, but we enjoy being here for most of our spare time. Since offering the rental cottage, we have been blessed to meet many wonderful people from states near and far. We enjoy answering questions about the farm animals. Please call Tammy if you have any questions. 423-240-6433.

Why Tammy Henderson chose Chattanooga
This farm was originally owned by Tammy's parents. We built our house here shortly after we married and have lived here for over 35 years. The location has been very convenient to schools and jobs, yet offers a peaceful retreat from the hectic city life.
What makes this Cottage unique
Guests to our cottage most always comment on the wonderful front porch, 8 ft x 50 ft with 10 rocking chairs. The fresh mountain air and peacefulness seems to melt the stress out of your body and put a smile on your face. Sunsets are beautiful from the porch or the pavilion out back. We have a barn-wood pavilion out back where families can spend evenings under twinkling lights and play corn-hole or other games or enjoy a picnic. One of my favorite places in the cottage is standing at the kitchen window looking out at the big red hay barn. There are often cattle, chickens and guineas in the pasture by the barn.

Family friendly gem
Our family loved the setting. Tammy made us feel like family. We were met with snacks and homemade apple butter(it was delicious). Tammy came down and showed our granddaughters how to feed the cows watermelon rinds and the chicken crackers. The house had toys and games as well as a well stocked kitchen. So many thoughtful items you wouldn't get in a hotel. Country setting just minutes from town. We will stay longer next time.💖
Tammy is a perfect hostess. They are very helpful, kind and friendly. The cottage is very homey, comfortable and has everything we need. The peace and quiet here is just what we needed. We would definitely come back.
Great girls weekend
Tammy was a delightful host. Available but not intrusive. THe property was adorable. There is a Nicely lit barn that you can relax in with rocking chairs or play corn hole. We have a fire and roasted marshmallows for s’mores. The porch is amazing for chilling out and relaxing. The kitchen is very well appointed. Downtown is only about 20 minutes away for amazing food. Also the road up the mountain has pull offs for swimming in suck creek. What a nice bonus!
More than just a place to stay!
We throughly enjoyed our stay at the Big Porch Cottage! We have stayed at many VRBO locations and never have we experienced such a treat! Tammy greeted us on day one to tell us about the place and suggest a few fun ideas and the the cottage was well stocked! Our kids loved feeding the chickens and cows everyday and did not want to leave! The location is great, just a short, scenic, drive through Prentice Cooper State Forest and you are back in the city! We definitely plan to return!
Loved The Big Porch Cottage
We had a wonderful time at the Big Porch Cottage! The farm was so relaxing and serene! We enjoyed feeding the cows and chickens! The cottage was so pristine and included so many extras! We hope to return!
The Bouknight Family
Absolutely loved our stay. Mrs. Tammy was very welcoming and made her self readily available if needed. My boys loved the cows, chickens, and catching fireflies. They were already asking when we could go back the day we left. Definitely recommend and will return soon!
Our cottage is in a convenient location to all the activities of Chattanooga, but also on a rural mountain-top farm. To the west is the beautiful Sequatchie Valley in Marion County, TN with a small airport in Jasper, TN; Nickajack Lake in Jasper; the Children's Holocaust Museum in Whitwell, TN; the Dunlap Coke Oven Museum, in Dunlap, TN and many craft fairs and local events such as Ketner's Mill, the National Cornbread Festival, etc.
Chattanooga offers something for everyone of all ages: the Children's Discovery Museum, Tennessee Aquarium, Imax Theatre, Chickamauga National Battlefield, Ghost Tours, Coolidge Park, Chattanooga Zoo, Lake Winnepesaukah Amusement Park, Chattanooga Theatre, UTC Mocs sporting events, Chattanooga Lookouts baseball, the Riverbend Music Festival, RiverRocks events in October and the list goes on.
If your family enjoys retreating to a quiet, home-like setting after a full day of activities, our cottage can offer that family-centered atmosphere you want. There is approximately 2 acres of yard with room to play ball, bean-bag toss, swing, sit around the fire pit or relax in the rocking chairs on the 50 ft front porch. You could spend your entire vacation just being relaxed and doing family things and never leave the property.
Another wonderful opportunity awaits just outside the property. We are adjacent to a TN forest, Prentice Cooper Wildlife Management Area. There are 23,000 acres of forest with abundant wildlife (deer, turkey, squirrel, rabbits, birds) and miles and miles of roads and hiking trails leading to wonderful areas overlooking the Tennessee River Gorge or the beautiful Sequatchie Valley.
Your family will find much to do and will want to come again to have more time for other activities.
