The Lunigiana: Lunigiana is a historical region located in both Tuscany and Liguria, between the Spezia and Massa-Carrara provinces.

During the Middle Ages, there were 160 castles in Lunigiana, only thirty of which have reached our times in a good state of preservation while others such as the castle of Agnino di Fivizzano have fallen into ruin. It was in these castles that Dante found respite during his stay in Lunigiana.

At the end of the first millenium, the earl-bishops of Luni and the Malaspina family fought for the predominion of Lunigiana. The dispute was finally resolved on behalf of the Malaspina that started an hegemony on the region.

Lunigiana is located among regions of strong gastronomic traditions. Some examples of local dishes including testaroli al pesto (local bread with pesto), torta d'erbi (savoury tort), i frittini (fritters), bomba di riso (rice balls), castagnaccio (chestnut flour cake sometimes filled with ricotta), and pappardelle pasta with wild hare sauce.

What to do: In 10 minutes you arrive to Licciana Nardi where there is a shopping centre (Masero di Licciana Nardi), restaurants, bar, bank, chemist and post office.

Near the Barn there is the ancient city of Sarzana, the beaches at Forte di Marmi whit the wonderful shops of the best brand of world, the 'Carrara' marble mountains and the Garfargnana national park. The sandy beaches of Marinella and Marina di Massa are 30 min away. Many fresh water rock pools, made by the fast flowing water from melting snow are at walking distance.

Great villas in Lunigiana

  • 5 of 5

Fabio met us at the house on our arrival date and gave us a thorough tour of the house explaining how everything worked and where things were.

The villa is very clean and equipped with everything you need, we were lucky that although the end of November we found a week of beautiful weather with a spectacular view of the valley from the house.

I council the area for the delicious food typical (panigacci, testaroli and meat) that you can find and thank you Fabio for restaurant recommendations.

I would highly recommend this house to anyone visiting this area of Tuscany (Italy or in general!)

Owner's Response: I totally disagree with this review, the house was warm, the sheets and towels were present as always. The house was clean and full of everything as always. I think it's right to leave a day early without notifying the owner.

Lovely and lonely

  • 5 of 5

Amazing house in an beautiful landscape.

3 big bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a nice garden.

Brilliant interior and clean rooms.

The way to the house is adventuresome, because of little roads through the hills and gravel on the last part of the road.

The communication to the owner was simple and fast, perfect.

We had a nice stay and cant tell any bad.

Thank you!

for peace and isolation this is the place.

  • 4 of 5

This is a lovely villa with spectacular views over the countryside. The only negative is the narrow roads and ultimately single track that winds its way up the hillside to get there. Once used to this slighty hairy drive it is a brilliant place to stay. Totally on its own it is a great place to chill with some local wine, cheese and ham.

Comfortable, clean, quiet

  • 5 of 5

We - 2 adults, 4 childern - had a pleasant stay in this spacious and comfortable house. The owner was very nice and friendly. The distance to the closest village (Licciana Nardi) is about 15 minutes by car. There is a lot to see in the surroundings. Linnen, towels and end cleaning were all included witch is a big PLUS. Definitely recommended.
