The apartment was ideal for a couple and the views from the balcony were stunning especially the sunsets. It was a great place to chill out with a book and glass of wine. The village and beach were great with lots of places to eat, have a coffee or a drink. Would recommend Mali Raj for dinner, we went several times. Loved the water taxi to Torig which is a must see and more lovely places to eat and drink. We loved our water trip to Split which is stunning and had to go back for a second visit. Apartment is ideal re location although be aware it is quite a long steep hill, best not tackled in heat of the day. Overall had a great holiday, our first visit to Croatia but will definitely be back.
Amazing sunset views
We had a fantastic time at this beautiful apartment, the apartment itself is spotlessly clean and everything you may need for your holidays is available if required.
The views from the balcony are amazing and you won't tire of sitting watching the day go by up there, or taking sunset photos!!
The area itself is quite but the beach area which is a mere 5-10 mins walk is lively with numerous beach bars and plenty of restaurants and even more restaurants in Trogir a 15min water taxi ride away (20 kuna each)
We walked to Trogir in less than half an hour , we went to Krka water falls which were beautiful but as we travelled in July too many people to be able to see it properly and we arrived there at 9.15am !! If you travel in quieter months I'm sure it would be much better.
Primosten was a lovely quaint village 30 mins drive and Split is 30-40 mins depending on traffic.
When in split go up to the Marjhan hills it's a fantastic view.
One tip when driving on the island use the new bridge and turn left at the first roundabout and follow signs for Okrug Gorni it's much quicker and alot less traffic.
All in all a great holiday thank you Cynthia
I am so glad you enjoyed your holiday and the apartment. I am always happy when my guests love it as much as we do. Although it is exciting to go in peak season we ourselves prefer May, June, September and October when it is not quite so busy and the temperature is not so hot but still very warm.
We had a lovely stay at the apartment, it has all the you need for a comfortable holiday. The air-com was most welcome in the evenings. The views are beautiful we spent time watching the boats and the sunset.
The water taxi to Trogir is a 10 minute journey. Where you can catch the boat to Split a great day out.
Okrug Gornji is a lovely quiet area of Ciovo with beach bars, quiet beaches and small shops..
The apartment is on a steep hill but we soon got used to it and took a taxi back a couple of times.Well worth the effort as the views are spectacular from terrace
The apartment wants for nothing and we hope to return soon.
So glad you liked our apartment and the area. We would love to welcome you back to our special Croatian holiday home.
This one bedroom apartment has the best view from it's balcony from anywhere we have ever stayed! The sunsets are to die for and we spent so much time just watching the boats. There are plenty of Beach Bars and Restaurants but we enjoyed taking the Water Taxis from the small harbour to Trogir, a lovely Roman Town with a great market and lots of small shops and restaurants and only a ten minute ride. The apartment is on a steep hill but we would walk down and take a taxi back up, very reasonable!!! We also took a Ferry on from Trogir to Split, a gorgeous, bustling Roman City. The apartment wants for nothing and the aircon is very efficient. A great find!
So pleased you thought our apartment was a great find. We think so too.
Still looking to book a holiday this year? Due to illness Penthouse View Apartment is now unexpectedly available for booking from Sunday 16th September to Thursday 4th October 2018.
Had a super stay at the Penthouse View Apartment, everything was as described in the literature, with every home comfort being made available. I just hope that the island of Ciovo and the resort of Okrug Gornji stays the same, and doesn't grow too quickly. Its a very family orientated resort, and has plenty to offer for everyone.
We have been going out to Okrug Gornji for ten years now and although the resort has gradually catered for more visitor needs over that time I don't think it will become too commercialised. The locals know that their low key approach is what makes the area so popular with the discerning traveller.
THE BEAUTIFUL DAMLATIAN COAST has a host of delights to explore. A water taxi boat trip from the local harbour (15 mins) will take you to the Unesco World Heritage City of Trogir, or go by bus or a leisurely walk (30-40 min). Enjoy a meal or a drink by the waterfront where luxurious yachts moor up whilst their owners explore the delightful Venetian architecture of the historic centre. Wander around the narrow cobbled alleyways, courtyards, restaurants, shops and street stalls or visit the castle. The old city walls shelter many beautiful buildings including the awe-inspiring Trogir Cathedral and just outside one of the ancient gates is a bustling market. Visit the old city of Split (just 25 min drive away) with its amazing Roman Architecture and Diocletian Palace. Explore the vast Roman ruins site at Salona. The Krka National Park (40 min drive) has spectacular waterfalls, lakes and forests to explore. Or why not take a boat trip to one of the many local islands such as Brac, Hvar, Vis or Korcula.
If you feel particularly laid back why not just spend the whole day reading and sunbathing on the balcony. Stock up with plenty of liquid refreshment and goodies and relax on the swinging seat or sun lounger. Put your favourite music on the CD player and mix up one of the delicious recipes in our Cocktail Book. Watch the boats and water activities in the bay and then cook yourself a delicious meal and dine on the balcony whilst watching the spectacular sunset. Finish off with a nightcap on the balcony and admire the night time view or snuggle up on the settee and watch a DVD.
A DAY AT THE BEACH IN OKRUG GORNJI
A short 10–15 minute downhill walk from the apartment will take you to the local beach. It is tempting to spend the whole day relaxing on the beach where you can hire a sun lounger and parasol for the day. The many beach bars offer fast food snacks, ice creams, cool beers, soft drinks and cocktails just yards from you. Stalls sell fresh fruit, juices, pancakes, jewellery, gifts and beach goods and you can even have a massage. The warm sea is a delight for swimmers and the long gently shelving beach with its safety nets makes it a haven for children and non swimmers. Whether floating on your lilo or body board or going for a strong swim this beach is perfect. There is a warm refreshing breeze from the sea especially in the afternoons.
Try your hand at snorkelling to see the wide variety of fish species which live in the rocky crevices. Make sure to wear jelly shoes or similar for comfort on the shingly beach and remember to apply the sunscreen. If you want something a little more energetic hire a pedalo, jet ski or small boat from the local Beach Sports Centre at the end of the beach or try your hand at paragliding or banana boat and rubber ring rides. For more solitude you can take a walk through the pinewoods beyond the harbour to secluded local coves but make sure to take a bottle of water.
After your relaxing day on the beach visit one of the various restaurants close to the beach or by the harbour for a lovely evening meal in the perfect setting. The menus are varied and delicious and the waiters are attentive. Finish your evening with a cocktail or two in one of the beach bars whilst watching the sun set spectacularly out at sea. Take a leisurely evening stroll along the beach and listen to the live entertainment or disco music in each bar. The beach area at night is a vibrant and colourful place with a real holiday island atmosphere and the view at night is every bit as beautiful as it is by day. Join one of the weekly Fishermans' Nights with live music, numerous stalls and a beach barbeque. The uphill walk back to the apartment is not so onerous in the cool of the evening especially when you have had a drink or two and once you are back on your own balcony sitting with a nightcap in your hand watching the bright lights and the stars twinkling in the bay all seems well with the world. Just a perfect day……….
DAY TRIPS FROM THE BEACH
For a good day out take a 'Fish Picnic' boat excursion to the nearby island of Solta and the Blue Lagoon with lunch and plenty of local schnaps and red wine included. Tickets can be booked the day before. Various other boat trips are advertised by the harbour, some starting in Okrug and others in Trogir. These range in price and distance, one of the most expensive being a speed boat excursion to the famous Blue Cave.
ACTIVITIES ON THE ISLAND
Why not be even more adventurous and take a Quad & Buggy Safari through the forest and mountain trails of Ciovo or visit the island's Paintballing Centre.
WATER TAXI TO TROGIR This operates from the local harbour every half an hour during the summer (from 8.30am – 11.30pm in peak season) adults 20 kunas, children 10 kunas. It's a short trip along the coast and past the boatyard which takes approx 20 mins and is a very pleasant and scenic way of travelling into Trogir.
About Cynthia Bidwell-owner
My name is Cynthia and I was born and grew up in a small village north of Cambridge in England. I have a grown up son and daughter and four grand daughters aged 18, 16 ,8 and 4 years. Family is very important to me. My daughter Lynne helps me to manage the Penthouse View apartment. As a family we visit the apartment often and it is very much home from home to us. We have enjoyed making it a comfortable and relaxing retreat and we have made very good friends in Okrug Gornji village. I have lived in the same village all my life and am very much involved in the community being a member of the Parish Council, a trustee of the local Day Centre for the elderly and a trustee of our Town Lands Charity. I belong to the Gardening Club and the local branch of the British Legion and was Chairman of our Carnival Committee for many years. I am the practice manager at a local GP practice and have worked there for over 40 years. My roots will always be in my home village but I love to travel and visit other countries. My partner Simon and I spent 5 years building a 36ft yacht and we sailed thousands of miles around the coast of Britain, across the North Sea and eventually down to the Mediterranean Sea where we kept our yacht for many years and sailed all around the Med. Simon is currently building a 50ft steel yacht behind our house so that we can continue our sailing into our retirement days. Having an apartment base on the beautiful Adriatic coast where we can moor our yacht within view of our own balcony and knowing that it will be safe when we are back home in Britain is I think having the best of both worlds. We are not wealthy and have worked hard to achieve what we have now but have been lucky that we grew up in a time when that was possible. I think things will be tougher for the younger generations.
Cynthia Bidwell-owner purchased this Apartment in 2008
Why Cynthia Bidwell-owner chose Okrug Gornji
We heard from a friend that the apartment block was due to be built by a local builder who they knew well. We visited the area and fell in love with both the island and the site. We stayed locally several times during the build and were impressed with the quality of the work. We were involved in choosing the floor coverings, kitchen and bathroom fittings and other details which have all meant that this is an apartment which is individual to us. We have become friends with the builder Mijo and his wife Bozena and their family. They live in the apartment block next door and they look after our property for us. We know that Penthouse View and our guests are in safe hands.
What makes this Apartment unique
The views from this apartment are amazing and we never fail to be moved by the spectacular sunsets from our balcony. I was determined to have a swinging seat on the balcony and I have spent many a happy hour gently swinging and soaking up the atmosphere. Penthouse View is a wonderful place to recharge the batteries and to take some 'me' time in an otherwise very busy life. It is easily accessible from Britain with a short flight time and then just a 10 minute drive from the local Split airport which is modern and efficient. Our friendly taxi driver Vjenceslav (or Mr V) can meet you at the airport and deliver you to the front door where Bozena will greet you and show you the apartment. I'm afraid there are five short flights of stairs to the top of the building but the view is definitely worth it. Ciovo Island and Okrug Gornji are an ideal location to enjoy the unique delights of the Dalmatian Coast. You are based in a beautiful island community but have the added benefits of road links to the mainland by bridge which means you can easily explore the wider Dalmatian coast area.
