Fantastic terrace but poor quality furnishings
The location of the house in La Herradura was good with the most amazing views across the bay to Almunacar and Sierra Nevada mountains. However, the quality of the furnishings throughout the property was poor - the terrace furniture was probably excellent about 10 years ago but it's been left to gradually deteriorate, mattresses are lumpy and stained, the sofa and chair are worn out. The place also needs a deep clean it was only superficially cleaned. The main bedroom is listed as having a Queen bed but it's actually just a double so that was disappointing as well. Whilst the showers had good powered hot water, one is a squeeze and the other had a tendency to leak if you ran the shower at full power. The general area of La Herradura is good, pebbly long beach with lots of restaurants to visit and it's close enough to visit many other places like Frigiliana, Torrox etc. Overall we were disappointed by the house but the terrace was sunny all day with the most amazing views

Perfect Winter Break
Lovely and well located casa with a very authentic feel. Short walk down to the beach or drive into Almunecar for bars, shops and restaurants. The terrace is the real winner though, a perfect sun trap with amazing views across the coastline, very cool watching the sea shimmer under the moonlight as well! All in all, a perfect place to relax and get a bit of winter sun!

stunning views, large terrace, very well equipped .
Stayed here this weekend whilst visiting friends. You can't beat the ocean and mountain views from this large terrace. A short walk takes you to the centre of the village where you can shop at the local market and enjoy the many restaurants and tapas bars. The house is beautifully furnished and has everything needed for a relaxing time. Will book again later in the year. A short walk down the

Beautiful, peaceful villa in a great location
We and our two children loved our stay at La Aldea. When we were there it was so peaceful and relaxing, just the sound of doves and blackbirds. The terrace was spacious and had a wonderful view of the sea. We had a car but could walk down to La Herradura in about 25 minutes (a bit longer coming back - uphill!) We made full use of the barbecue having stocked up at the nearest supermarket in Almunecar (10 mins by car). If you want to eat out, there are plenty of places in La Herradura. You can also drive to Nerja (25 mins?) which has some great tapas bars. The villa was very well equipped and had everything we needed, and lots of useful information. The aircon was a plus but was needed only occasionally during our stay (in June/July) as the villa is well ventilated and also has ceiling fans. The pool was great and was about a one minute walk away. We were often the only ones there, this being early in the season. On a practical note, you will need a car (Malaga cars was recommended by the owner and they were really good - no hidden extras). We had no problem parking directly outside the villa. There area couple of small mini markets and a bakery in La Herradura, but it's better to drive to Almunecar which has several supermarkets (we recommend Mercadona - great and cheap meat and fruit and vegetables). The beach in La Herradura is pebbly but is very clean and was rarely crowded (Sundays!). Much calmer than the one in Nerja. We heartily recommend La Aldea - the location is probably the best on this stretch of coast, far away from the tourist clutter around Malaga. The villa itself is charming - a real home that we settled into really quickly. We will be back!

About the host

My wife and I bought the house in 2000 as a family holiday home and we now use it to getaway from the winter in the UK. We love the charm and cosiness of the house and the stunning views from the terrace. Aldea is a perfect community of very architecturally interesting houses that create a wonderful ambience with lush pathways and well manicured trees. Our children loved spending all the school holidays in our Spanish home as they grew up and still come as often as they can now. We love the tranquility and in the winter we always have a fire made of olive wood to warm the evenings.

Why they chose this property

The house has an immediate effect on guests with its charm and tranquility. The terrace is lovely during the day with it's stunning views to the sea, mountains and the snow capped Sierra Nevadas, but also at night with subtle lighting around the terrace and with the plants and trees, it makes it perfect for evenings outside watching the stars and the twinkling lights down the coast as far as the eye can see. We are next to the community pool, which is rarely busy. Close enough that we can call from the window to the pool to tell the children that lunch is ready, but not disturbed by any noise as it is the opposite side to our main terrace and rooms.

What makes this property unique

Our guests return to Aldea again and again for the same reasons as we do. The stunning and exhilarating views from the terrace, the tranquility, great restaurants and Spanish culture. From the terrace you can see for 45 miles down the coast and at night it is lit up like Christmas with twinkling lights as far as you can see. There is a built in BBQ on the terrace for home dining.
We are lucky enough to be able to walk to La Herradura for our morning coffee on the beach or to the Marina Playa. There is a quick root through the trees underneath the light house straight to the Marina beach so no road walking!
There are so many excellent restaurants in the village at very reasonable prices.
We love growing our own fruit and I have planted fruit trees down the side of the house, avocados, grapefruit, oranges peaches and nectarines just help yourself when they are in season! Also on the terrace garden there are lots of herbs freshly planted each year, so please help yourself to the fresh Basil coriander, rosemary and thyme as well as the herbs and spices in the spice cupboard. Just replace whatever you finish so there is plenty for the next guests!
