About John Burton

My wife and I bought the house in 2000 as a family holiday home and we now use it to getaway from the winter in the UK. We love the charm and cosiness of the house and the stunning views from the terrace. Aldea is a perfect community of very architecturally interesting houses that create a wonderful ambience with lush pathways and well manicured trees. Our children loved spending all the school holidays in our Spanish home as they grew up and still come as often as they can now. We love the tranquility and in the winter we always have a fire made of olive wood to warm the evenings.

John Burton purchased this villa in 2000

Why John Burton chose Almuñécar

The house has an immediate effect on guests with its charm and tranquility. The terrace is lively during the day with it's stunning views to the sea, mountains and the snow capped Sierra Nevadas, but also at night with subtle lighting around the terrace and with the plants and trees, it makes it perfect for evenings outside watching the stars. We are next to the community pool, which is rarely busy. Close enough that we can call from the window to the pool to tell the children that lunch is ready, but not disturbed by any noise as it is the opposite side to our main terrace and rooms.

What makes this villa unique

Our guests return to Aldea again and again for the same reasons as we do. The stunning and exhilarating views from the terrace, the tranquility, great restaurants and Spanish culture. From the terrace you can see for 45 miles down the coast and at night it is lit up like Christmas with twinkling lights as far as you can see. There is a built in BBQ on the terrace for home dining.

We are lucky enough to be able to walk to La Herradura for our morning coffee on the beach or to the Marina Playa. There is a quick root through the trees underneath the light house straight to the Marina beach so no road walking!

There are so many excellent restaurants in the village at very reasonable prices.

We love growing our own fruit and I have planted fruit trees down the side of the house, avocados, grapefruit, oranges peaches and nectarines just help yourself when they are in season! Also on the terrace garden there are lots of herbs freshly planted each year, so please help yourself to the fresh Basil coriander, rosemary and thyme as well as the herbs and spices in the spice cupboard. Just replace whatever you finish so there is plenty for the next guests!

Beautiful Spanish property with wonderful terrace

Great property, beautiful terrace with stunning views of the sea, headlands and towns day and night! Perfect for setting for eating, drinking and sunning.

Great restaurants and bars (particularly recommend Francisco's). Authentic Spain. Beautiful unspoilt beaches.

Could not wish for more.

Thank you so much for letting us stay in your lovely home.

We will be back!

A beautiful well furnished property nestling on the hillside in a charming development

  • 5 of 5

The ocean views from the large terrace were stunning, sunrise was spectacular! Our stay was so peaceful and yet we were only a short walk from the village centre with a multitude of shops, bars and restaurants.

Highly recommended, it doesn't get any better, we will be booking again.

Fabulous Villa in a Wonderful Setting

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time and only wished we could have stayed longer. The villa is charming, a real family home, with everything you could possibly require and extremely tastefully decorated. The terrace provides a haven of peace and tranquility as well as a sun trap with stunning views. It's possible to walk to La Herradura to sample the local delights including lovely Chiringuitos and beach restaurants, a local food and flower market, small supermarkets stocked with everything you could wish for and a town square / old town. A short drive away is the bustling seaside working town of Almunecar providing a great insight into a typical Spanish town, again including a charming old town. Granada and the Sierra Nevada are approximately one hour's drive away for those who wish to sample the delights of the Alhambra and skiing - sadly not for us on this occasion, but certainly next time! All in all, highly recommended.

À bijoux

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing view from the terrace. The most charming typical Granada home, perfect taste I could live here with pleasure.

Not far from the unspoiled beach, so rare to find today in Spain. The village has all you need including excellent restaurants at unbeatable prices

Not far from Granada, Malaga and Nerja plenty to see.

I will return with the greatest of pleasure.

Car: recommended

La Herradura village is on the Costa Tropicale, approx 40 minutes by car east of Malaga. It is a horseshoe shaped bay between the headlands of Cerro Gordo and Punta de la Mona. La Herradura has retained its Spanish character with wonderful Fiestas and Easter parades. Picasso, the Spanish Royal family, & Andreas Segovia all had homes here. The village has supermarkets, a bakery, banks, a newsagent, medical services, pharmacy, hairdressers & a daily market selling fresh fish, meat, flowers, fruit & vegetables. The beaches and water are very clean, & there are many restaurants, bars with traditional flamenco entertainment. East of La Herradura 10 minutes away lies Nerja with its amazing caves & concerts in the summer. Almunecar is approx 7 minutes by car offering more shops & restaurants amongst its old Roman streets & squares. Granada and the Alhambra palace are an hour away & in Malaga the Picasso museum & the old quarter are fascinating to explore.
