About the property

Beautiful Swedish Cottage on 100' of private shoreline on Little Pequaywan Lake

**From early June through the end of August, we only rent from Saturday through Saturday to ensure solid bookings all summer long. Please contact us if you have any questions about this policy!**

**Coming March 2018, we will be listing 2 new properties in the same area on VRBO! Please inquire if you are looking to book beyond March.**

This new construction is wonderfully appointed and a great space for your getaway. The interior is constructed with light bright aspen paneling & red oak flooring. The vaulted great room is terrific for entertaining and warming next to the woodstove. The custom kitchen boasts granite countertops, stainless appliances, a center island for gathering and is fully furnished. The full bath is finished off with black Vermont slate, granite countertops and aspen paneling. The two bedrooms and open sleeping loft sleep 6-8 guests. The large deck overlooking the lake leads to a good sized flat yard perfect for playing catch or other outdoor games. From the yard there is set of stairs to the swimming area & dock. The swimming area has clear water with a solid gravel bottom.

Winter: For snowmobiling fanatics, this property is located w/in one mile of the Pequaywan & Brimson Trails! The lake offers a number of species for ice fishermen. The area also has significant public property available for cross country skiing and snowshoeing! We keep the sauna open all winter to allow as many guests as possible to use the amenity. When there are extremely cold temperatures, the sauna may not heat up to the desired temperature. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Summer: Our sauna is a great way to relax at the end of a hard day of vacationing. To add to your relaxing vacation, we also offer a patio with grill/patio furniture, kayaks, and many other amenities for you to enjoy! Little Pequaywan Lake (aka Smith Lake) contains walleye, crappies, pan fish, bass and northern pike for fishing enthusiasts.

About Roxanne

The cottage on Little Pequaywan is owned by a group of friends from the Duluth area who have maintained their friendship through their shared love of the outdoors. Throughout the last several years, we have completed some wild adventures together, such as: kayaking the Mississippi River, biking around Lake Superior and hiking the Grand Canyon from rim to rim to rim.

Lately, we have decided to spend more time enjoying the area we have all lived in for most of our lives, Northern Minnesota! In order to enjoy the area to the fullest extent, we decided to purchase a cabin on one of the most beautiful lakes in the area, Little Pequaywan Lake.

A little more about us:

Tony: Grew up in Chisholm, Minnesota; graduated from the University of MN-Duluth; is currently employed as an engineer in Duluth.

Chandra: Grew up in Minnesota; graduated from Lake Superior College; currently employed in the physical therapy field in the Duluth area.

Lucas: Grew up in Northern Minnesota; graduated from the University of MN-Twin Cities; currently traveling throughout North America implementing business excellence principles within the forest products industry..

Roxanne: Grew up in Sturgeon Lake, MN; graduated from the University of MN-Duluth; currently employed in the organizational development field within the forest products industry.

Roxanne purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Roxanne chose Duluth

The first time we drove up to this property we knew it was the one for us (likely the reason why we made an offer to purchase the next day!).

The well built and beautifully furnished cottage is situated 100' from the waters edge with a panoramic view from the living room, dining room and front patio. At the waters edge you will find 100' of lakeshore with a hard gravel bottom and a dock to enjoy everything the lake has to offer.

What makes this cottage unique

The beautifully furnished living/dining area is a great place to relax and converse after a long day on the water or in the many acres of state owned forest just minutes from the cabin.

If the outdoors is your primary reason for visiting, you will really enjoy fishing on Little Pequaywan Lake (very little traffic, no public landing) or snowmobiling on the many miles of local trails (less than a mile from the Brimson and Pequaywan trails).

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just spent our first wedding anniversary here. Enjoyed the peace and quiet and seclusion. Didn't expect the snowy view, would like to enjoy the cabin in nicer weather. Thanks Lucas and Tony for the chance to stay here. We look forward to making more memories here.

The weather be a changing but this cabin has you covered, an all weather destination

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful stay in a cozy cabin. First time using VRBO and was very impressed. I believe we found a real treasure and further stays through VRBO will have difficulty matching the high

standard of this cabin. All amenities we could imagine were provided from the full kitchen to the canoe and kayaks. The sauna was nice and relaxing. Fished off the dock and from the canoe. Not one bite did we get. Neighbors on either side. Distance away was sufficient to maintain plenty of privacy. On driving back at dusk one evening came upon a young buck about a 1/4 mile from the cabin. It proceed to run beside our car for a block or so before it bolted into the woods. Did not have an opportunity to use the outside fire pit even though we had all the fixings for smores. 4 nights was not enough time!! Had family in Duluth who enjoyed spending time with us at the cabin. Weather had been in the 70s week before we arrived. 40-60s while we were at the cabin and snowing as we flew out, the day after we left the cabin. Water too cold for this Pacific Northwest girl to swim in. Had adequate coverage with AT&T. Provided washer and dryer was a bonus. Plenty of towels provided. Living room TV with few channels that would come in and out. Videos, games and books also provided, if someone needs further entertainment. Beautiful quiet surroundings to unwind were all we needed. Turned on TV in master but never got a station, may have been set for video or something else. Didn't need to use so did not inquire of owners. Dealt with Roxanne, one of the owners. She was quick to respond to any inquiries before, during and after stay. Accidently locked a previously unlocked door. She quickly responded and resolved the issue immediately.

Thanks for allowing us to stay at your wonderful cabin. We hope to return in the future.

Relaxing fun week up north

  • 5 of 5

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our week here. The cabin has a great "up north" feel. Beds slept great (including those in the loft). Really liked the open floor plan between the kitchen and living area. Full kitchen produced some awesome meals, and the large dining table and coffee table handled a number of games and puzzles.

The lake had very little traffic, and was just the right size for us beginning kayakers to get out and enjoy the water. (Be aware that you need to bring your own life jackets.) Fishing off the dock, and listening to the loons call, as well as a sauna and a jump in the lake. There are neighbors nearby, but never saw anyone. The local inn is very "unique", but the staff is friendly and the food was very good. "Hugo's" is another little place down the road about 10 miles - they have basic groceries and also bait.

Nice location to use as a home base for day trips to Duluth, the North Shore, and points further north.

Only two downsides: (1) Closest cell or internet service we could get was 15 miles away going towards Duluth. Not a big deal when trying to get away from hustle and bustle, but tough to plan activities and lay out directions when you can't access anything. Also, concern about being able to reach anyone in case of emergency. (2) There are steps down to the lake. If you have kids, you won't be able to see them on the dock from the cabin.

We would definitely consider coming back here if we find ourselves back up in this area again.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review, we do appreciate it! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. You are correct, the cell phone service is spotty, we do have a land line inside the cabin in case of emergencies. We certainly hope you can come back and enjoy our property some time in the future!!

Quiet, scenic property with great amenities.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great 5-night stay in this beautiful cottage set on a great lakeside property. Left behind 98⁰ heat in Omaha, Nebraska and arrived to a brisk, but welcome 50⁰. The cottage was very cozy, clean and uncluttered—perfect for my husband and me and our two young adult boys. Spent a quiet day mostly enjoying the solitude and being unplugged at the cottage. That evening stopped into Pequaywan Inn for their Sock Hop. Spent the second day hiking in Tettegouche State Park, visiting Black Beach and Split Rock Lighthouse, but happy to come back to the cottage where my husband grilled steaks and we watched a movie that evening. Spent our third day in Duluth (temps in the low 70’s) in Canal Park and various sites around the city then back to the cottage for a nice nap and another relaxing evening. Clear and brilliant starry skies. Our 4th day we spent half the day hiking at Gooseberry Falls State Park and the rest enjoying the charm of the cottage. We fell in love with the Lake Pequaywan area, friendly people and the privacy of the property – neighbors on each side but never saw or heard them. The cottage itself was very roomy for the four of us and one canine. Could easily have had more a few more in our group without being crowded. Found the kitchen to be well stocked with utensils, dishes, and pots & pans. Great drinking water straight from the tap. Comfortable beds with nice quality linens—great for napping and sleeping the night straight through. We definitely plan to stay again in the future.

Perfect Relaxation for a small family or two.

  • 5 of 5

Hi,

We all loved our stay there. THere was just enough 4G reception for the family to not go crazy. Loved that it was by the lake. Loved the outside porch where we spent most of our time. The kids loved the upstairs room. It was better than what we had expected. Our kids felt that we moved into "our new home mom." We were only there for 3 days! It was very comfortable. We would love to come again. Hope we were good guests. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

We loved it! Beautiful cabin and fun lake time

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect little getaway for our family. The cabin is beautiful and our boys loved the kayaks and canoe for the lake. Sunrises over the lake are gorgeous! Everyone around town was so friendly. We enjoyed a morning at Split Rock lighthouse (about one hour drive) and also an afternoon of chartered fishing with Captain Parker of Superior Pursuits (Duluth).
