Alami Villa is perched on the edge of the stunning Petanu River canyon and has a river view from every room. The word 'Alami' means natural or at one with nature in Bahasa Indonesian. The second you step foot through the front door you will understand completely.
Although only 2 miles from the excitement of Ubud's Monkey Forest, Alami Villa feels like a peaceful sanctuary. Located near the famous Elephant Temple, Goa Gajah, and the Chedi Club, the villa so close to Ubud that most Ubud restaurants happily deliver to the villa free of charge!
As adventure travel experts we have been leading groups throughout Southeast Asia for over 20 years but our hearts always lead us back to Bali.
The completion of Alami Villa has fulfilled our lifelong dream of creating an ultimate island hideaway.
Martha & Clay Wiseman purchased this villa in 2009
After years of searching for the perfect location, we finally found Tengkulak Kaja. Just minutes from the center of Ubud, yet nestled on the edge of a quiet village.
The Villa was completed at the end of 2012 and the entry gardens in January 2013.
The infinity pool was added in May 2014.
It is rare to find such a quiet location so near to Ubud town. One look at the dramatic view of the Petanu River canyon view and you will understand why this location is truly unmatched.
I cannot overstate how much I and my guests enjoyed our stay at Alami Villa. From the time of booking all the way through to our reluctant departure from the villa, the quality of service, the physical environment, and the many amenities surpassed our expectations. We had some last minute travel changes, and the owners were very gracious and flexible about accommodating them. When we arrived at the villa we were warmly greeted by the entire staff. And they immediately made us feel welcomed and very comfortable after a long journey. The villa is amazing! It is even more spacious and more well appointed than the pictures on the sight represent. They have done an excellent job with providing a living environment that seamlessly blends the living space with the outdoor environment. Something that is a real treat in the lush setting in which the villa is situated. The grounds are filled with local flora and they are impeccably maintained. The pool, of course, is another highlight and also well maintained. Beyond all of this, what really made our stay outstanding was the warmth and attentiveness of Putu, the house manager/tour guide, and the entire staff. Beyond taking great care of us, they were just a pleasure to get to know. The owners are very fortunate to have such a great team of people running the villa! We also relied on Putu as a local tour guide throughout our stay. I highly recommend arranging tours with Putu. He is a knowledgeable and gracious guide and he helped us make the most of our first visit to Bali. Bali is a magical place, and everything about our stay at Alami villa just added to that magic. I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else if I return to Bali.
I just returned from my at Alami Villa with 5 of my closest friends. From the minute we arrived at the entrance of the Villa we all knew that we were in for a very special stay. All the staff at the Villa were there to great us with a fresh coconut drink and whisk away all of our luggage to our rooms so we could get settled and ready for our exquisitely prepared lunch to be served. I can't say enough about the food at Alami. I highly recommend that you let them take care of all your meals, you will not be disappointed. Putu, the onsite manager, was even kind enough to arrange a shopping day with him and the chef to the local market so we could shop for our lunch and then come back and learn to cook some of the local dishes with the chef. Putu and all of the staff at Alami are some of the most kind and caring people I have ever met. They are truly the heart and soul of the Villa and want to make sure that your time there is relaxed and enjoyed to the fullest. There are so many things to do and see in the Ubud area, which I recommend you do, just make sure to leave time for enjoying the Villa, be it lounging by the pool, or getting a massage outdoors listening to the sounds of the jungle, or in the Villa's own spa room. The last night at the Villa will be one that my friends and I will hold dear to our hearts for the rest of our lives. Putu arranged for a evening party where many people from the village came to dance and perform Balinese music for us. We all got dressed up in traditional Balinese clothing and had our makeup done. Putu was even able to have a local photographer capture the entire evening and provide us with a CD of all the pictures the next day before we left. I could go on and on. You MUST experience for yourself.
Alami Villa is gorgeous! When we walked through the door, we started to cry because we were so struck by the beauty. The pictures are beautiful, but it is even more spectacular in person. The wonder that is the jungle of Bali is right there for you to experience. We stayed for five nights in June and had our spiritual ceremony (wedding) there. We both feel that it was one of the best days of our lives and at least 50% of that had to do with Alami Villa itself, Marty, Putu, the staff and all the folks that came out to help. What's even more amazing is some of our guests said it was also one of the best days of their lives. Every person and aspect of the day that was recommended to us by Marty and Putu was just exquisite: the food for the wedding, the decorations (including the flowers), the 12-piece gamelan band, the five dancers and even the vegan and gluten-free cake they were able to come up with. Marty was so generous with her time to help us prepare for an overseas wedding. She brings so much excitement and passion and knowledge to what she does. Putu is basically a combination of an angel and Buddha. He is so patient, so present and such a wonderful soul. The rest of the staff were also lovely. Breakfast was always wonderful and for other meals, if we didn't feel like going out, they would order from local warungs for us and the food was delicious and cheap! The location of the villa is in a nice spot to get into Ubud easily, explore Mas and also other areas going south. We can't wait to go back to celebrate our anniversary!
If you want to skip the full review and just get to the bottom line, here it is: Stay here, without question, and you will have zero regrets!
If you’re curious as to why we would give this villa the best possible review, here it is: As other reviewers have noted, the pictures (surprisingly) do not do this villa justice. Yes, the photos are amazing, but once you enter this villa, and are greeted by several staff members, and welcomed with fresh coconut juice, you will be at a loss for words. Honestly, Putu (the village manager) sets the peaceful and welcoming tone from the airport with his kind demeanor and warm heart.
When we entered the villa, I had asked what is customary for where our shoes and such should go. I’ll never forget his response, “This is your home, you may do whatever you like.” And yes, from that moment on, we truly were made to feel like this was our home. For the remaining 8 days, Putu, Kadek, Made, and Komang catered to our every need. We were pretty exhausted from nearly 40 hours of traveling, and the team took care of ordering delicious authentic cuisine for our first two nights. Nothing was too much for them… More Bintang? Done. A delicious cocktail? Kadek knows what he’s doing! Floaties for the pool? Check. A private chef for the evening? Just ask!
On top of that, forget about stressing over arranging tour guides, whether it be to a numerous temples, a guided bike tour, or seeing authentic art, wood-carving, basket-weaving studios, Putu isn’t just a wonderful village manager, he is your tour guide (whether by car or by bike), and your connection to all that is authentic and “off the beaten path”. Putu is clearly very knowledgeable and passionate about Bali’s culture and history. I had researched guides for cycling, climbing Mt Batur, several temples, etc. only to find out that Putu will take care of everything! Whenever we toured a temple, Putu, again, was our guide with an immense amount of knowledge. From remote villages, to traditional ceremonies, to food and culture, if Putu recommends it, do it. You will have no regrets!
Not only is this quite possibly Ubud’s (perhaps Bali’s) most amazing villa, it includes the kindest staff that exceeds expectations at every opportunity. If I could give this villa 6 stars, I would. On our departure day, we felt as though we were saying good-bye to family. If we ever have the opportunity to return to Bali, we will most definitely stay at Alami Villa.
My family just left this sanctuary. This is what we named it after our stay in this amazing home. The natural beauty that surrounds this home is beyond words. It is a true sanctuary. Unlike most advertising the pictures of this home and the river that runs below are far more beautiful when you see it and experience it. All of the staff were amazingly kind, and helpful. They made some of the most wonderful food. Petu was an incredible resource and did everything possible to make our experience in Bali the best possible. It is a quick ride into the center of Ubud, and after a day in Ubud it was a real treat to return to such a quiet and peaceful home. I can't say enough good things about this home, the staff and the beautiful nature that surrounds it. Five star plus!
My family and friends from Australia stayed here from March 29th through April 3. Six adults and 4 kids. The booking was flawless and quick responses from the owners were appciated. The staff there was also wonderful, but hard to find in the middle of the day to get pool towels and other things brought down to us. With this many staff I expected them to be around more. I only saw Putu the house manager in the morning and afternoons. Although he was wonderful when there. My reasoning for a lower star rating was a few things. They had really loaded the bedrooms with moth balls before we arrived. They were taken out the day before we got there but that smell lingered and was terrible. I mentioned it a few times to which they apologized and burned insense in our rooms, but that only masked it for a short time. I am very sensitive to that old grandma smell and it really burned the nose and eyes. Also the larger bed downstairs was extremely hard. Like sleeping on a board. Both AC units in upper bedroom need replaced. They work but not well enough. Other than this the place was very clean and the chefs food was better then anything we ate in town. We were not unhappy here. Just disappointed,
