Description

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday cottage in Saint Austell - Glebe Cottage

3 bedroom modern cottage, sleeps 6, close to beaches, Heligan, Eden Project

Come and enjoy a relaxing break at Glebe Cottage. Built five years ago the cottage is in the middle of the small village St Ewe, close to the popular, local pub The Crown Inn. A traditional exterior hides a modern interior with double height ceilings and an open plan living area. Huge glass doors frame a fantastic view, whilst underfloor heating keeps the cottage warm and cosy. On hot days throw open the doors onto the deck which wraps round the back of the house, on chilly evenings light the wood burning stove and curl up on the large, comfortable sofa and watch a movie.

Three en-suite bedrooms give everyone their own space and an open plan living area guarantees you won't get stuck in the kitchen. Meal preparation can easily become a communal affair.

Outside there's plenty of space for everyone to relax with three well organised areas to make the most of the sun throughout the day - relax in the hammock, watch the sunset from the deck or watch the local farm life in the shape of the many cows and sheep in neighbouring fields. You might even spot an owl hunting in the field below the cottage.

St Ewe is a quiet village with a good pub and medieval church. Plenty of beaches are within easy reach, The Lost Gardens of Heligan are round the corner, The Eden Project is a 15 minute drive and Mevagissey is just down the road

The picturesque south coast of Cornwall is just 3 miles away and the beautiful Roseland Peninsula is full of pretty villages and hidden beaches with plenty of places to explore and keep you busy during your stay. Two of Cornwall's most famous attractions: The Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan are very close to the cottage and are both well worth visiting.

If you want to see more of Cornwall, St Ewe is very well located for visiting the whole of the County. The North Coast is a short drive away, with Jamie Oliver's Fifteen restaurant at Watergate Bay and Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant in Padstow both within 40 minutes of St Ewe. You can easily plan day trips to Lands Ends in the West and Tintagel in the North from your comfortable base at Glebe Cottage.

About sue hawken

I am Sue Hawken and I own Glebe Cottage, which I run as a holiday property. I also live in St Ewe so I am on hand to sort out any problems that may arise during your stay.

sue hawken purchased this cottage in 2009

Why sue hawken chose Cornwall

Glebe Cottage was built in 2009 as a holiday cottage. We wanted to build a property that used traditional materials but made the most of twentieth technology and we hope that we achieved something that fits well into this ancient village. We hope that we have thought of everything you might need to make your holiday as comfortable as possible.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage enjoys a fabulous view over farmland. Although it is in the middle of the village, it is quiet and private and a very calming place to spend time away from home.

Like Coming Back to a Good Friend

  • 5 of 5

Arriving after six long hours travelling by car through the English rain to St. Ewe, the welcome was very impressive: Just having parked the car

infront of the house, Sue already appeared in the middle of the street next to Glebe Cottage, giving us a warm welcome and making it feel like we

were coming back to an old, well-known friend you haven't seen for a long time. Everything was perpared perfectly - local food including bread,

eggs, butter and a magnificant home-made lemon drizzle cake was already in the cottage. The latter simply to say: exquisite! Moreover, it had been

quite late when we arrived, so Sue thankfully arranged a reservation in an Inn in the neighbour village on short notice.

For sure all the pictures are not exagerating in any sense. The first impression, as we came in the Cottage, was overwhelming: we did not expect to see the wide and high room framed by formidable roof beams using the cornish classical architecture, yet spreading the charm of modern style. The

bedrooms next to the main room with their appendant bathrooms are well-appointed. The beds themselves are very comfortable, and the kitchen is

equipped at its best and is very functional. Furthermore, the underfloor heating even makes cold and windy days feel homey. Simply, you will not

miss anything. Having had a few rainy days with dense fog too, we could appreciate the whole comfort of Glebe Cottage.

If we ever have a chance to come back to Cornwall we will book Glebe Cottage again and recommend it warmly to our friends.

Perfect House -Dream Holiday

  • 5 of 5

Our compliments to Sue! The house was exactly, if not better, as described online. The pictures are absolutely true and the house has a warm, contemporary atmosphere just like you would imagine. Very clean and tastefully designed and maintained! The kitchen offered everything you need for cooking family dinners. We, family with 3 daughters 11-16, loved the location and the extraordinary view from the deck! St. Austell provides everything you need for basic shopping. Truro has an M&S and lots of cool shops (also TkMaxx..). In short distance you'll find lovely small and big beaches for relaxing and walking. If you want to explore Cornwall this is the perfect house to rent! A navigation system for the car is recommended as in summertime the narrow roads are covered or grown in by lots of greenery - you feel a bit like driving through a maze. Rainy days can be used to cuddle up on the sofa with a good book, the fireplace fired up and a good cup of tea - enjoying the view or surfing the web. A vacation we will always have fond memories of - hopefully we will be able to come back soon!

Best cottage to stay in cornwall

  • 5 of 5

I arrived with my family (2 girls aged 14 & 12 and their friends aged 12 & 14) at this beautiful cottage to be greeted by the cousin of the owner of this cottage, she was so helpful. It was lovely to arrive to a place so clean and fresh with all that you ever need for a weeks stay at Glebe cottage. we had fresh bread, milk & eggs on arrival & even a delicious lemon cake to have with a cup of tea. The cottage was in a great location with fantastic views over the cornwall landscape. The cottage was easy to get to many places within the cornwall district. The Crown pub was really good for sunday dinner & a couple of drinks. I would highly recomend Glebe cottage to both family & friends & hoping to come back oneday in the near future. Alison, Dave & family.

Stylish, comfortable and practical

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic New Year week in Glebe Cottage and it couldn't have suited us better. We are 5 adults so the 3 en-suite bedrooms were a perfect solution.

We have stayed in several rental properties both in the UK and abroad but Glebe Cottage has been the best so far. We were given a warm welcome by Sue and she provided us with delicious local goodies including wine, eggs, bread, milk and some wonderful home-made lemon drizzle cake

.

The modern cottage offers space and comfort and is stylishly furnished with a few homely touches which gives it a more personal feel. It is very well laid out and has excellent lighting - it seems they have thought of everything to make life easy, even down to the hooks on the back of the doors!

The kitchen is extremely well-equipped with every utensil and container you could reasonably need and good quality crockery and cutlery. There is also a utility room with a good washing machine, ironing equipment and plenty of storage space.

The living area and 2 of the bedrooms overlook rolling countryside and the field below was often full of inquisitive sheep and lambs!

The property is surrounded by garden and there is a decked area which would be lovely in summer and there are exterior lights for warm evenings outside.

As it was winter we stayed in and used the log burning stove most evenings - Sue kindly topped up our supply when we ran out of logs! The large sofas with their fleecy blankets are great for lounging around watching DVDs on winter nights. There is a good flat-screen tv, dvd player and a DAB radio with ipod dock.

We travelled around most of Cornwall during our time there - some highlights were the walks from Kynance Cove to Lizard Point; Port Isaac and the delightful Victoria House Cafe for a cream tea and the Christmas lights at Mousehole.

We have already recommended the property to friends and would love to visit again during the warmer months.

A lovely clean modern cottage with beautiful views

  • 5 of 5

I would thoroughly recommend this cottage in terms of its layout, cleanliness and beautiful views. The beds were very comfortable with lovely crisp sheets and the showers are powerful and always hot!

The location is excellent, for getting to lots of different beaches, gardens and of course Eden. Food shopping can be done on line beforehand or you can drive to Tescos or Asda.

We had a lovely time 2 couples with 2 children would like to go again!

Gorran Haven
Car: recommended

St Ewe is a totally unspoilt, inland village midway between the larger fishing village of Mevagissey and the small beach side village of Gorran Haven. Famous for its associations with The Lost Gardens of Heligan, St Ewe is the place you will find the War Memorial with the names of Heligan's lost Gardeners.

St Ewe is 3 miles from the south Cornwall coast with an excellent choice of beaches from a well serviced local beach at Gorran Haven to the more remote beaches at Hemmick or Caerhayes, Carne or Pendower. Glebe Cottage is a 15 minute drive from The Eden Project and is very close to the beautiful and unspoilt villages of the Roseland Peninsula. The traditional fishing villages of Mevagissey, Fowey and St Mawes are all within easy reach of the cottage. Here you can while way an afternoon watching the fishing boats, browsing in the shops or trying your hand at a spot of crab fishing.

Glebe Cottage is close to the South West Coastal Path and there are plenty of choices of wonderful walks along the path passing through picturesque fishing villages and hidden beaches.

The central location of St Ewe means that there is easy access to the whole of Cornwall and many guests have travelled the County visiting Lands End and Tintagel in one stay. For those determined to relax there are plenty of easy ways to spend time close to St Ewe enjoying all Cornwall has to offer. The village also has a great, local pub, so you can enjoy an evening drink or meal without having to get in your car.
