About Sandra Montalvo / Javier Rodriguez
Javier, and I are both professionals, born, raised and happily living in the beautiful Caribbean island of Puerto Rico. We are both bilingual (English and Spanish).
Sandra Montalvo / Javier Rodriguez purchased this Apartment in 2005
Why Sandra Montalvo / Javier Rodriguez chose Loíza
We purchased this apartment to getaway from it all on the weekends. In our apartment at Villas del Mar Resort we are close to the metropolitan area of San Juan but at the same time away from the stresses of city life. Our daughter was born just months after purchasing the apartment and she has had an absolute blast all throughout. She still loves spending time in it on the weekends. Our family holds the greatest memories at Villas del Mar Resort.
What makes this Apartment unique
Villas del Mar Resort is right AT THE BEACH. Many other developments we went to see were close but not at the beach. At Villas del Mar Resort we are meters away from the beach gate. The beach is beautiful, with an underwater reef several meters from shore, often visited by manatees that at times may be seen from distance. Another thing that we love about our apartment is its cross-ventilation design, with two balconies east and west.

Javier and Sandra are amazing hosts! They made sure our stay was comfortable and provide any recommendations we asked for. The property was beautiful. It was great to have the beach within walking distance with minimal crowds. Anyone looking to get away from the city this is the perfect place.
Loved the property and the family.
Javier, Sandra and their daughter, Victoria, were wonderful hosts. The apartment was clean and comfortable. Very pleasant. The location was perfectly situated. We did not drive the highway as we loved driving along the coastal route. The hosts checked on us everyday to make sure we were OK and provided many suggestions to help us on our first visit to Puerto Rico.
We arrived late from our flight and car rental and most restaurants were closed. We were able to find a restaurant nearby In Loiza which was a delight (not beautiful, but very friendly) sitting outside in the evening listening to the crashing waves. The chef, Mrs. Leslie Griffin, prepared wonderful fresh red snapper (the best we tasted of several restaurants) and I got my first taste of shrimp filled mofungo. The restaurant name is Villa Pesquera Herrera towards Rio Grande-is on left just before turn in road. My only regret is I did not get to go back and taste her Yucca Alcapurrias.
The best mofongo (wonderful garlic) was at El Bahio in Farjardo (but, the rest of the food not as great). Asopao not recommended here.
The best restaurant was Jose Enrique in San Juan, but, extremely loud atmosphere inside and outside. But, difficult to get there due to traffic. Park along side freeway and walk a couple blocks up. Restaurant is a pink house with no signage. Reserve early 11:30ish for dinner as there is a long line.
The best Sancocho and Churrasco was at Don Tello's in Catano recommended by Javier after our visit to Bacardi, however, the Bistec Encebollado was OK, but, not the best at Don Tello's.
Ritchie's, recommended by Javier, had wonderful Asopao and a beautiful view.
The service is extremely slow all over the island.
Besides food we enjoyed hiking in El Yunque, visiting El Morro, and Arecibo.
Villas del Mar Resort is conveniently located 20-25 minutes from El Yunque Rain Forest. It is also 20 minutes out from a world class golf course in the town of Rio Grande, and 30 minutes from the ferry port to the beautiful islands of Vieques and Culebra. There are other amenities nearby such as horseback riding and kayaking. San Juan is a mere 30 minute drive with plenty of offering for restaurants, nightlife and shopping malls, including the newly opened Mall of San Juan.
