We are a family of six who just love the Lakes. We love going for the walk upto High Dam and all my children have been doing it since they were babes in arms.
We are an owner run and managed cottage who take a real pride in providing a quality service and cottage. Our caretaker does a superb job in getting Woodside ready for our visitors and our location is fabulous for exploring the Lakes. Woodside is so near High Dam and lake Windermere, we can stroll there on a Summer's evening and take the view in. So relaxing, or sit in cosy comfort in Oscar's cafe at Lakeside and watch the constantly unfolding scene on the Lake , magical
We have owned Woodside for several years. We chose it because of its very special location and it wonderful character. You can come to Woodside and walk some of the most peaceful walks right from the front door or walk down to Lakeside and sit by the Lake. It is a very special and much loved cottage
The Cottage is very comfortable and well maintained and equipped with every thing you need for a holiday, we had our 2 dogs with us and there is adequate room for a dog crate in the Front Hallway - they thoroughly enjoyed the garden, the owners were very attentive and provided detailed instructions for everything in the cottage and the surrounding visitor attractions. I would recommend this cottage, however it is a walk away from the local village and you should bring supplies with you as there are no local shops nearby.
Our first wedding anniversary - so a quiet romantic weekend in the lakes was how we decided to help celebrate the occasion. The cottage of course was key to a lovely weekend , and it was perfect , offering all the amenities we wanted. Very comfortable, clean , cosy and in a great location as a base to walk or drive from. When we look for a cottage , we want it to feel home from home , and this did. The wood burner in particular gave it that homely feel. The weekend went fine , despite the worst flooding for years across Cumbria. So very sad for local inhabitants, but it didn't spoil our stay , and we remained pleased with our choice. Yes we will be back her again sometime.
This was our first trip to the lake district; the important factors that clinched Woodside cottage for me were i) I felt comfortable making the booking as Woodside is "dog-friendly" ii) the promise of clean, comfortable accomodation and iii) the location. Woodside cottage exceeded my expectations on all counts.
My very fluffy dogs enjoyed the cool stone floor of the kitchen (yes, we had some hot days) and all downstairs flooring is stone/wood so no worries about grubby paw marks. Not that I would let that happen - I found the outside tap useful to give both dogs and walking gear/boots a wash down.
The accomodation was very comfortable and spotlessly clean - and we kept it that way as we would at home. Our stay coincided with Wimbledon - so we were relieved to find a decent flatscreen TV with SKY! The beds are exceedingly comfortable and most welcome after a day's hike.
Now, my wife is a little precious (I don't think she'll see this review....) when it comes to cooking (and she is a SUPERB cook) - and as far as packing for holiday, I'm not in the least surprised to find three or four of her favourite saucepans and a myriad of utensils. SO, it is a REAL compliment to Alison and Brian that our pans etc were entirely redundant as the Woodside kitchen was so well equipped for folk who really cook!
Location: So much to do and so little time! Local woods, meadows, High Dam (superb), Lakeside cruises - take the bigger boat and go to AMBLESIDE. NB: the seats in the saloon fold up to make space for dogs. Also enjoyed beautiful Tarn Hows - this is quite accessible and the NT are there at the car park with electric 4 wheelers. There are a number of walks that take you "off-piste" at Tarn Hows - well worth a day's exploring.
Oh, BTW - make sure you visit Stott Bobbin Mill! It's on the doorstep :-)
Brian and Alison provide a great, supportive and friendly service for your stay. Most helpful.
I have no hesitation recommending Woodside
Woodside really is a warm, beautifully equipped and comfortable cottage in lovely location next to Windermere. Phone call from owner on arrival to check everything OK was a nice thought and appreciated. Lots of games, books and DVD'S to keep kids quiet on wet days.
I will have no hesitation in recommending Woodside to friends and family.
We were searching for a cottage which had 3 bedrooms and welcomed dogs, the description and photos provided on the Holidaylettings website were exactly what we were looking for. After our initial contact with the owners we found them extremely helpful and informative providing quality customer service.
The accommodation was faultless, very spacious bedrooms with comfortable beds, excellent kitchen and dining area with modern appliances, comfortable lounge area with up to date entertainment and technology facilities, the bathroom and en-suite facilities were a welcome bonus, plus there was ample parking and recreational facilities.
In general all three of us (and the dog) thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay at a fabulous cottage steeped in history but with all the modern day luxuries required to ensure our stay was unforgettable. Set in a peaceful tranquil area of the Lake District yet close enough to the hustle of Bowness & Windermere this is a quality retreat for a break from it all . WE WILL RETURN
This is the perfect cottage to relax and unwind. It has a homely atmosphere with gorgeous fabrics and attention to detail. The owners have recently invested in custom made sofas which were so comfy for snuggling up on after a long walk. The bathrooms were hotel quality and the kitchen superbly equipped. Bedrooms were so lovely and relaxing with comfy beds, pillows and Egyptian cotton bedding. Log stove and electric heating made for a very cosy cottage. Great walks from the door step so we only used our car once during our stay. We walked to the Motor Museum which is dog friendly and there are plenty of information leaflets in the cottage to help you find out what there is to see and do in the area. The owners are very friendly and approachable and let's not forget the ladies that clean the cottage as it was spotless and well presented. Stop dithering and book this cottage, if you don't somebody else will!
