Very comfortable master suite with ensuite separate entrance with a nice big porch. There are mountain views from the room and porch. The back yard is completely fenced. There are many banana trees and other tropical foliage. Very private and separate living quarters on the back of the rest of the home.
Close to town. A 5 to 7 minute walk to stores library swimming pool etc. Located in a family friendly neighborhood.
Born on the Big Island in Pahala town and raised since the age of 5 on Lana'i. My father, a Maui kamaaina ,brought us all here in 1957 and was the only doctor here for many years. He delivered babies, preformed all the necessary surgeries and later brought Straub to the island. Along with the other teenagers of our time, I picked pineapples in the summers. We moved away in1976 and I returned in 1998 as a dialysis nurse to pioneer and run the only dialysis center on the island . I was working in Honolulu and took care of the Lana'i patients who dialyzed off island as there was no center for them. Some of the patients where friends of my parents when I was younger so I felt a sense of giving back, so to speak, as I had the skill and able to go home once again. As I arrived home for the first time some 20 years later I realized this is where I needed to be. I wrote 2 songs about the island. One speaks of Koele and the other Hulopo'e Bay. One speaks of the original Norfolk pines and pastures waving.' As if to welcome me to a home across the sea.' The other,' the warmth of the sun,and the deep silver sea. A'ama basking on rock and stone.'
Marty purchased this studio in 2004
I needed a home and this was the best, move in ready, newly renovated home. The name on the wall near to the door, welcomed me with Ho'ola'i Home. And once inside I looked down the hall and thought 'yes, this is Home'.
I presently reside in the front of the house, totally separate from the back end. I would like to extend a warm welcome to guests to stay in my home. E komo mai !
This subdivision was once one of the pineapple fields that we were assigned to work hoe hana, or to pick pineapple with a team and a luna, or boss. It is in a family friendly environment. Plantation cottage style with a nice welcoming porch.
We enjoyed our one month stay in Lana'i and Marty, the owner was super wonderful. It was great getting to learn about Lana'i from her. It was great to "talk story." The home is very comfortable with a nice big lanai and patio furniture including a swing chair that my 100 year old father enjoyed sitting in. The home was very cozy and comfortable with a great Hawaiian feel. We had 3 people and sometime 5 staying at the home. The kitchen was well equipped for our needs. I usually cooked 2 meals breakfast and dinner and we ate out for lunch. There's a TV, but we didn't use it very much. If you bring a computer there is a strong wifi signal. If you need to wash clothes, there is a washer and dryer in the garage. The neighborhood was nice and an easy walk to Dole Park where shopping, gallery, art center, groceries stores, restaurants and a theater can be found. I loved going to the Lana'i Art Center where one of the ladies there taught me how to knit, make a beautiful flower haiku for my hair, made a pineapple ornament with material and ribbons and braided a ribbon lei. They have art classes for kiddies and many of the local artists sell their items at the Art Center. There's a library near the Lana'i Elementary and High School. If you want to rent a 4W jeep it's walking distance to the Dollar Rental. The Lana'i Woodworking shop is also a place to visit. We just loved the small town feel of Lana'i.
Very comfy and spacious. Just like home with all the amenities. Highly recommended.
I would recommend staying in this home. It is in a nice neighborhood and within walking distance to downtown Lanai
Myself and another couple rented this wonderful home during our recent stay on Lanai. We prefer to stay more local style than resort style when we travel, so this home perfectly met our expectations. If you need to stay at the Four Seasons, then this rental is not for you. However, if you are happy to enjoy the cooler temperatures and local sites in Lanai City then this is a great property. We were surprised to count that 9 people could probably stay here between the living room and 3 bedrooms. I'm not sure that is allowed, but certainly, a larger family would find this rental spacious and a great value. It is conveniently located near the brand new public swimming pool and you can easily walk into town to go to the stores, restaurants, or take in a movie at the recently renovated and state of the art movie theater. If you plan to explore the island, it is easy to rent a car and drive to some of Hawaii's most beautiful and secluded beaches. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking at home and the wifi was as fast as we needed. I will definitely look forward to staying here again.
We (2 couples) spent 2 relaxing weeks here at the end of February and it was a great way to experience Lana'i for the first time. House was clean and comfortable in a quiet local neighborhood within easy walking distance of the main square. Owner Marty is helpful & easygoing; don't worry about her living in the rear of the property-the rental home is quite private. Lots of good books about Lanai history and Hawaiiana in the house. We didn't miss having a TV. We loved Lana'i and plan to come back (and stay in this house if available!) People are friendly, the pace is slow, if you like the outdoors there is plenty to do. Bring old clothes to hike in- red dirt does not come out!
Marty is a great host, meeting us and making certain we were comfortable in her well stocked home.
Lanai City is a great walk about town, fun restaurants and nice parks, the crown jewels are the friendly residents of all ages and the new recreational facilities.
Snorkeling and hiking were high on our list, as was the tasty venison a hunter/guest had left in the freezer! Mahalo for sharing.
within walking distance of 5 minutes to shops, restaurants, tennis , basketball, and swimming pool with showers ,2 minutes walk from house. In a family friendly neighborhood.
