This amazing home was the star of a popular HGTV series last year. We are living there for part of the year and this is your opportunity to enjoy our oasis in Colonial Antigua, a UNESCO world heritage site. Our home is situated in a lovely, safe and quiet neighborhood.
This colonial home was designed and built by the famous architect, Franklin Contreras, who builds million dollar plus homes in Antigua. It's unique floor plan is laid out in a traditional colonial style, while making the most out of the home's view of the Volcano Aqua. It has a huge master bedroom with enormous mahogany closets, and a master bath with soaking whirlpool tub. Then there are two large bedrooms, each with two twin beds that share a beautiful bathroom with tub, marble, and skylights. In the front of the house, there is an another bedroom with bunk beds and an additional twin and private bath. Finally, the TV room in the back of the home has a full-sized bed. In sum total, the home sleeps 11 comfortably. I recently brought down a pack and play for the convenience of those with young children. There are also two inflatable mattresses. The layout of the home makes it perfect for just a couple, or a large family.
The home is centered around a beautiful courtyard with local flowers, as well as herbs for cooking. The living room has a working fireplace, and wood is included. There is a brand new 46' LED television in the living room and local cable is included. The kitchen has a gigantic cupola painted the color of the sky and ample cabinets and counter-space. The kitchen is fully-equipped. There is a large pantry for all of your market purchases. The dining room has seating for eight around a beautiful Mahogany table, and there is a covered outdoor table that seats six as well as outdoor furniture if you want to dine outside.
The highlight of this property is the upstairs terrace, hands down. The terrace is immense, covering the entire footprint of the home and has an amazing pergula to provide shade while reading, working, dining or just enjoying life. There is a table for four under the pergola, as well as ample outdoor furniture for dining and relaxing. This is where I spend all of my time at the property.
There is Wi-Fi throughout the home, as well as phone, cable and a printer.
We have a two car garage, so if you have your own vehicle, you can park there. There is also ample street parking. If you are renting the home for one week or more, I will include free airport transfers (to and from) in our 12 passenger van. Our driver, Julio, is available to arrange additional transportation to the Lake, or to the beach, or to wherever you would like to go.
The home is located a fifteen minute walk from central park and ten minutes from the central market. Being in the center of Antigua sounds nice, but there is constant traffic and noise. If you like a quiet place, friendly neighbors, and experiencing the true culture of Antigua, this is it.
If you're a foodie, like me, you'll want to get to know the fresh fish guy, who comes by each Monday afternoon with his fresh catch from Puerto Quetzal. I buy sea bass, robolo, dorado, tuna, and shrimp regularly, all sushi-grade. There are fresh fruit guys that stop by on Wednesday, but I go to the open air market for pretty much everything else. Antigua is an agricultural hub for an incredible variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. But, if you're not the cooking type, there are 1001 restaurants in Antigua covering every type of cuisine imaginable. Ampero, the house-keeper, can also arrange for catering in for breakfast or other meals. If this is something you are interested in, you can speak with her upon arrival.
Housekeeping service is included in the rental rate and occurs on Tuesday and Friday. In other words, there are no hidden end-of-stay cleaning fees. If you wish to receive daily service, that is available too. Your vacation can be customized to meet your needs so that you have the absolute best experience in Antigua.
Our family coordinates mission work in Guatemala and has worked there so for nearly ten years with a number of organizations providing aid in Central America. Antigua is a place we fell in love with and have come to know as our second home. Someday, we plan to move there full-time.
George Crist purchased this house in 2010
I brought a group of 10 people here for a service trip. This home was perfect for our needs! With the 5 bedrooms and 3.5 baths, it was comfortable for all of us. At the end of a long day of delivering bunkbeds or working at the orphanage, the large showers and good water pressure were a welcome sight. The layout of the house works well for having a group as the bedroom doors open to the terrace and are separate from the dining/living room and kitchen. This way, people don't bother each other in the early or late hours if they want to get a bite to eat in the kitchen or hang in the living room. The terrace on the roof is perfect for early morning quiet time or a late night glass of wine. But beyond all of these benefits, the biggest is the driver and his wonderful family. The driver drove us to the orphanage, stayed and helped us all day and when we delivered bunkbeds, he got right in there and helped too. Also, his wife is a fantastic cook and made us two excellent dinners. We enjoyed their company so much we had them join us for her scrumptious dinner. Also, the owner is readily available through email or text if you have any questions while staying at the home. He even gave one of the folks in our group the Spanish directions to his house from downtown Antigua so the taxi driver would have them. I hope to stay there again on our next trip. Thank you!
I want to take this opportunity to thank the owner of this property for providing us a great service. My family and I stayed at this gorgeous house and had a wonderful short vacation. I hope we get to visit soon.
This is a beautiful home very spacious with everything you need for your stay. The home was clean, in a quiet neighborhood a little ways outside the city center. I would definitely come back with my family. The only problem we had was the caretakers did not know of our reservation and the house wasn't ready for us at 4:00. With my limited Spanish and the house keepers non-English it was a problem communicating that we had a reservation, but it was worked out and they were very apologetic.
We loved staying here. It is a beautiful home and worked well for our family and friends. The roof top area was fantastic! As was the courtyard. We felt welcomed the minute we arrived. And the garage was even big enough for the big passenger van we had. Our children (ages 2-15) loved it. There was room for everyone to sit on the roof deck and just enjoy the night sky chatting and enjoying. We were glad to return each evening after full days.
Wow - where to begin?! This house was just wonderful! We rented Casa Amarilla for a family reunion. There were nine of us (five adults, three teens and one 10yr old). The house was beautiful, comfortable, spacious, and clean. We loved having the full modern kitchen, and being able to prepare meals (including a big Thanksgiving dinner for our families and some friends). We enjoyed our morning coffee on the rooftop terrace each day, and watched the finches and hummingbirds visit the garden flowers. The neighborhood was quiet. Getting into town was an easy, short bus ride (for 1Q), call a taxi, or take a pleasant walk (it took us about 20 minutes to walk to Parque Central). Having access to a phone for local calls, a washer &dryer, and a driver (Julio) was so helpful, too. I hope we are able to stay here on our next trip to Antigua!
A group of us went to Guatemala on a mission trip, and needed a home to stay in after our mission was done. Mr. Crist was so helpful in renting his property, and even making sure our group was ok after he heard about a volcano erupting in Guatemala. I love how there was a driver ready to take us around (for a fee) if we needed him! He picked us up from our first location, and brought us to the house safely, and even let us put our bags away and took us back out to go grocery shopping. This home is one of the most beautiful homes I have ever had the pleasure to stay in. Everything was provided, and it was super clean. We had no problem catching the chicken bus right outside the neighborhood, and going into Antigua to do some shopping. We also took tuk tuk's home on more than one occasion. There was about 2 days where we decided to just stay in, order food, and do nothing. That's how amazing the house was :) Make sure to go on the roof patio area, and watch the stars at night and the beautiful volcano in the day. I can't wait to stay in this home again!
